Plea for help A great, great, family

A former Pakenham family has established a GoFundMe to help raise money for a new car as they battle a pair of medical emergencies. Kylie Rieger and her partner Aaron’s daughter Sophia has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and Aaron’s father recently suffered a stroke. This means constant trips to hospitals in Clayton in a five-seater car which does not meet their needs, with up to seven people at a time making the journey to hospital and back. STORY PAGE 3

With roots across the Cardinia Shire district, one family has welcomed the fifth generation to their living ancestoral tree. Norma Allen, who turns 100 in August this year, never thought she would be around to welcome her great great grandchild into the family. But Xavier and Norma have been bonding despite the 99 year age gap between them, sharing precious moments as the rest of the family looks on. Jessica Lineham, Xavier’s mum and Norma’s great granddaughter, said she couldn’t be happier to witness these special moments between the two. STORY PAGE 2

Footpaths around the Officer Town Centre development remain unfinished, leaving residents and shop owners calling for action. No work has progressed since October 2021, and locals say they are occupying the area while it looks like a “construction zone”. Coxon Street resident Kong Yong has had his front garden blocked off since he moved in June and said something needed to be done. “It’s caused us a lot of inconvenience,” Mr Yong said. Shop owner Ben Borovic will open his laundromat in about two weeks but said ongoing works will damage his business. The body responsible - Development Victoria - says works were delayed due to Covid-19 disruptions. STORY PAGE 4

said community members will be consulted in the design and planning phases of the project. “A preferred or proposed site or technology has not yet been determined. Any facility would need to be appropriately located, constructed, and operated according to strict EPA regulations,” he said. Cardinia Shire Council has signed on to a controversial advanced waste project which could see a waste-to-energy incinerator built in the South East to address the impending landfill crisis. The shire confirmed it had been working closely with other southeast Melbourne coun-

cils and the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG) to seek proposals from industry for a smarter way to deal with household rubbish. This work has been ongoing for many years and was formalised at public Council meetings dating back to 2019 and 2020.
