Battin battle over signs Gembrook MP Brad Battin has threatened to take the City of Casey to VCAT after being denied political advertising at council-owned sporting grounds. Political advertising signage is not permitted on council active recreation reserves in the local government area despite being allowed in the nearby Cardinia Shire Council and Greater Dandenong Council. Mr Battin believes signs of political nature should be allowed to be displayed at sporting grounds as they provide clubs with crucial funds, among other benefits. “We just want to put back into the community - stop preventing us from doing it, you’re not preventing anyone else,” Mr Battin said. Congestion spreads east Show right back on track Exhibitors, volunteers and spectators were thrilled to be back at P.B Ronald Reserve for the 111th Parklea Pakenham Show on Saturday. Spoiled with sunny weather, the show was the first one back since Covid-19 shutdowns in 2020 and 2021.

It was a bumper day of entertainment with plenty of high quality poultry, sheep and horticulture exhibits, reminiscent of the district’s rural roots. COVERAGE PAGES 9, 24-27

Traffic issues are continuing to grow with the population of Drouin, putting a strain on local residents as they grapple with a lack of transport options and a surplus of traffic, particularly during school pick up and drop off times. The position of Drouin Primary School on Princes Way and Drouin Secondary College on Main South Road means commuters travel through the town centre to reach the schools, causing major gridlocks. Drouin resident of about seven years Sara Green said it can take more than 20 minutes to get through the town centre. STORY PAGE 5

Rail cash light on As works on the Pakenham East Train Station progress, the Porobic family says their battle for appropriate compensation is just getting started. It has been one year since Michelle and Bob

were informed their house would be acquired for the train line extension and in that time, the pair have struggled to find a suitable replacement for their home. The couple built the Pakenham house four years ago to suit their preferences, including a $300,000 second dwelling in the property’s

backyard. Having originally spent $340,000 for the block, the Porobic’s said they were not being offered enough money from the Level Crossing Removal Project to match the rise in housing costs in Pakenham. “We’ve looked at ones we can’t afford, we’ve looked at one’s where there’s no way we’ll be

buying it,“ Michelle said. “We’re not being offered enough money for what we’ve got here. “I’m not going to compromise and buy a house that needs to be renovated and I want to stand out there with a bomb strapped to me because no one is listening.“ STORY PAGE 3
