Powerful disruption By Jamie Salter Ongoing power outages are leading to significant costs for Upper Beaconsfield General Store & Cafe and Over the Road Restaurant owner Stephanie Davey. On top of lost trade, the business can lose up to $4000 worth of stock each time the power goes out. A solution to the outages would be to purchase generators of up to $30,000 each for the two sites. “As a new business we’re still growing, so to then have to fork out this from our own pockets is massive,” Stephanie said. Tony’s super home solution Garfield resident Tony Fitzgerald is campaigning for affordable housing and says Australian super funds could be the solution. “There is very little to no speculative housing investment in Australia and this is one of the main reasons why housing is so incredibly expensive,” he said.
