Re-elected MP looks forward Labor’s success at the Federal election may place an obstacle in the way of several of La Trobe MP Jason Wood’s election promises for his new term. Among them is Mr Wood’s $12.5 million election proposal for a South-Eastern Multicultural and Community Hub in Pakenham. “I’ve written to my Liberal counterparts and I’m really hoping the State or Federal Labor government comes out and supports the multicultural hub, which I think is desperately needed,” he said. The 2021 census data depicts the changing face of Cardinia Shire, with a multicultural boom one of the most interesting elements to the statistics released last week. Indian is now the fifth largest multicultural ancestry group in the shire, overtaking Italian which claimed the spot in 2016. English, Australian, Irish and Scottish took the top four spots. Emerald is the most expensive town to rent a home in Cardinia Shire, while people in Beaconsfield recorded the highest weekly household income. STORY PAGE 7

Local cemetery trusts are putting a stop to paranormal events held at cemeteries after discovering plans for ticketed tours in Pakenham and Harkaway. A Pakenham Cemetery Trust spokesperson said they contacted the Department of Health
