The festival has been held for about 46 years, with the last event running in 2019 and then put on hold due to Covid-19 disruptions. Yakkerboo Festival Committee vice-president Michelle Thornton said the event organisers were on the hunt for some new members to join the team. “We’ve copped a few hits over the past two years; we’ve lost some committee members who have moved away and some who have life getting in the way,” she said. Locals shine Four young athletes have proven their sporting talents at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Narre Warren’s Rebecca Henderson just missed out on the podium in the race walk, Cranbourne’s Brooke Buschkuehl claimed silver in the long jump, Emerald’s Amy Lawton also took out a silver medal with the Hockeyroos and Keysborough’s Nathan Ephraums secured gold with the Kookaburras. Henderson, who attended Berwick College and is a past Berwick Little Athletics member, placed fourth in the 10,000m Race Walk with a time just outside her personal best. “The crowd was the biggest we’ve ever seen basically, it was so loud - the atmosphere was great,” Henderson said.
