Highway shut following rain The South Gippsland Highway at Caldermeade has been closed due to flooding following recent heavy rain. There were delays as highway traffic was diverted through Caldermeade and Lang Lang. Caldermeade beef farmer Ken Barker said his property had been inundated with flood water. “It’s a matter of making sure the cattle are warm and well-fed and waiting for the flooding to go down,” he said. A Department of Transport spokesperson said drivers should remain vigilant. STORY PAGE 2
Land prices hit $400,000 Housing affordability remains an ongoing issue in Cardinia, according to RPM’s second quarter Greenfield Market Report. The report shows the South East corridor is the most expensive of all the growth corridors, with a median lot price sitting above $400,000. Local activist Tony Fitzgerald said housing affordability was a complex issue. “I believe $400,000 for a lot is far too expensive for someone starting a family and wanting to get into a home,” Mr Fitzgerald said. “Currently, inflation, income levels, interest rates, building costs and the lack of Greenfield sites that impact supply and demand impact the cost of housing.” STORY PAGE 5
Mollie’s big chop Mollie McNamara, of Bunyip, will be shaving her head for a World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser this month. The 12-year-old’s auntie Sue, who is battling two types of cancer, will be helping with the chop. STORY PAGE 5
