Holes up 91% Cardinia Shire Council will investigate its response to deteriorating roads following a 91 per cent increase in pothole defects in recent months. A report will be brought to the November council meeting, which will also include an investigation into the State Government managed roads in the shire. “I hear numerous concerns from residents and commuters about the roads within the shire, as I presume all councillors do,” Cr Kaye Cameron said. More than 120 offences were detected in the Cardinia Police Service Area over the AFL Grand Final long weekend. Operation Scoreboard, a five-day statewide road policing operation, saw police targeting high-risk driving behaviour, with a particular focus on speeding, impaired driving, and distraction. Police also increased their focus on motorcycle safety during the operation following a recent spike in motorcycle trauma. In the Cardinia Police Service Area, there were 121 offences recorded over the five-day period. STORY PAGE 7

New lease on life A draft plan to upgrade Cardinia Life, to include a new 50m eight-lane pool and turning the existing lap pool into a warm water pool, has been unveiled. The project would cost $114 million.

Cardinia Shire Council has already budgeted $20 million to go towards the works. State and Federal Government funding will be sought to fund the rest. The multi-million-dollar draft scope and three-part staging of the project was support-
