$200,000 jewellery theft More than $200,000 worth of goods were stolen from a jewellery store in Emerald last month, prompting calls for more security cameras in the town Star of Emerald owner and master jeweller Mark Dabrowski said the store was hit with another robbery about a year ago, with the robbers making a small hole in the front window of the shop but eventually being spooked away. “We don’t have enough cameras in town, folks come in here and ask me, ‘Do you have any surveillance across the road?’. No we don’t.” STORY PAGE 3

Worship site knocked back Cardinia Shire has blocked a place of worship from being built in a Pakenham industrial zone. At a town planning meeting on Monday 3 October, councillors voted to refuse the planning permit. Council officers said the place of worship would provide for cultural and spiritual activities with no link to manufacturing, warehouses or an industrial-type use. STORY PAGE 5

the support the rapidly growing community needs. “Current service timetabling fails to provide good connection between routes, the services just aren’t frequent enough, and smaller towns and communities find it difficult to accessing larger centres by public transport,” he said. “Local bus routes have not adequately kept pace with development, and a township bus route review is critically overdue.“

As part of the shire’s call for improved public transport, Cardinia is also calling for investment to create an airport in Melbourne’s South East. “Smart and timely decisions on critical infrastructure are needed now,” the Cardinia Calls website states. STORY PAGE 3
