Fast lane for road repairs During winter 2022, Cardinia Shire Council responded 10 days quicker than usual to fix potholes on its sealed road network, a report has found. However, there was an increase of three business days for council to fix potholes on its unsealed roads. The shire’s investigation into its own response to deteriorating roads comes after the municipality experienced a 125 per cent increase in road maintenance requests this winter for its sealed roads compared to the long-term average. Locals are rallying to save a former railway house which has stood in Beaconsfield since 1888. Beaconsfield residents have gathered more than 500 signatures on a petition to save the house, which is set to be demolished to make way for works associated with the level crossing removal project. Beaconsfield residents have described the project as “unnecessary”. Cardinia Shire Council said they would seek to influence the outcomes, although they are not the final decision maker. STORY PAGE 9
