Hope for train history There is a glimmer of hope in the fight to save Beaconsfield’s old railway house from being demolished. The Station Street property is set to be acquired as part of the level crossing removal project along the Pakenham train line. But authorities are looking at how “aspects of the building” may be retained while still delivering the road bridge for the 5200 vehicles that use the existing level crossing each weekday. Local councils won’t be forced to run citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day after Labor scrapped a controversial rule made by Scott Morrison. But Cardinia Shire Council will be hosting a ceremony on Thursday 26 January. Council said they had made arrangements prior to receiving advice on 16 December on the change in government policy. “Throughout 2023, council will hold monthly citizenship ceremonies to cater for the increasing number of local residents receiving their Australian Citizenship,” Cardinia Shire Council manager governance Doug Evans said.
