Temple battle Some residents in Pakenham’s green wedge have expressed concern about over-development after plans were released for a large place of worship. The site, 195 Dore Rd Pakenham, is 380 metres north of the urban growth boundary which contains established residential areas and developing residential precincts of the Pakenham East Precinct Structure Plan (PSP). Sikh Sewaks Australia (SSA), a not-for-profit organisation, is hoping to build a 2900sqm building with internal courtyard on a 9ha property, with 89 car spaces and 47 informal car spaces. In a letter provided by SSA, a spokesperson said the main function of the proposed use was for worship and charity work for the Sikh Sewak community. The spokesperson said the group was “excited to be part of the community that lives along Dore Road”. STORY PAGE 5
