Horror stretch strikes again! By Elenoar Wilson A deadly stretch of highway in Berwick has again been the site of a collision, after a car struck a pedestrian in the early hours of Friday morning. It is understood the collision occurred on Princes Highway, near Coniston Avenue, about 5am on Friday 10 March. A male pedestrian, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition, suffering head injuries. It is understood the collision occurred in the vicinity of the intersection that claimed the life of former Casey mayor and councillor Mick Morland in 2017. STORY PAGE 2
Pavilion ‘flip’ Upper Beaconsfield residents believe Cardinia Shire Council may be backtracking on the overhaul of the pavilion at Upper Beaconsfield Reserve. The pavilion was constructed forty years and houses six different sporting groups, the Council last year drafted a complete redo of the ageing pavilion with brand new, up to date facilities. Residents were shocked last week at a consultation meeting when the Council management presented a new draft that was a significant down grade compared to the original plans, proposing a renovation to less than fifty per cent of the property. Residents claim this new plan does not address the issues at the Pavilion. STORY PAGE 5

Pain hiting home Renters are on the frontline of the cost of living crisis, with more and more being pushed into homelessness because they are unable to find a rental, according to a local tenant advocate coordinator. Catherine Currie from Peninsula Commu-
nity Legal Centre (PCLC) - an independent, not-for-profit organisation that has been providing free legal services to Melbourne’s southeastern communities since 1977- said about 30 per cent of renters in Cardinia are in rental stress. “The formula that used to be considered
reasonable was if you paid under 30 per cent you could manage everything else,” Ms Currie said. “These days, people are paying 50 or 60 per cent on rent and are still trying to manage.“ Ms Currie said in her 20 years in the sector, this was the worse she had seen it.

“We’re concerned that renters do not see their issues as a legal problem and it is,” she said. “There are options available to them that they may not be aware of and it’s important that they know this.” STORY PAGE 3
