Home builds up in the air South East families in the middle of their dream home-builds are reeling after the collapse of one of Australia’s largest home builders, Porter Davis. Porter Davis has more than 1500 homes in progress across Victoria and 200 properties in Queensland, while a further 779 customers have signed contracts where building is yet to commence. Rising input costs, supply chain delays, labour shortages and falling demand contributed to Porter Davis’ collapse, the liquidators said. A home build in Clyde North - which was nearly complete - was this week the victim of a suspicious fire, police said. It is understood emergency services responded to a fire at a property on Andante Crescent in Clyde North on Monday 3 April about 4.30pm. The building was not occupied at the time and no one was injured. STORY PAGE 3

Hope grows
A man walking his dog saved a Pakenham family from their burning home on Monday 3 April. The Good Samaritan ran into the house yelling for the occupants to get out when he noticed smoke billowing from the home on Kimberely Grove. STORY PAGE 5

A Pakenham mother’s little way of spreading hope has grown beyond the confines of her home to a brand new warehouse space. Have Hope Inc has moved into the Pakenham’s South East Business Park. The not-for-profit organisation was founded by Bobo Davis after her son suicided in 2016 and has been run out of her home since. The new location will mean the community outreach service can continue to grow. STORY PAGE 6
Suburb confusion By Shelby Brooks The new suburb currently referred to as Pakenham East is yet to have a name, and there are a few options up for grabs. Vice president of the Nar Nar Goon Progress Association Geoff Bramley is firmly in favour of the new suburb being called Nar Nar Goon.
Parklea’s general manager corporate Jarod Mills is in favour of it sharing a name with the new train station being built - but there is a debate on whether that will be East Pakenham or Pakenham East Train Station. The need for clarity is vital for new residents who will call it home in the coming years.
Three developers are currently marketing land at Pakenham East: Satterley Property Group’s Maple Grove estate is in Pakenham; Parklea’s development Ridgelea is in Nar Nar Goon and Lend Lease’s Averley project is in Nar Nar Goon North, Mr Mills explained. “For potential buyers it is very confusing
to look on realestate.com and be directed to either Pakenham, Nar Nar Goon or Nar Nar Goon North,” he said. “For an area with an ultimate population of more than 20,000 people, it is significant enough to warrant a new name.” STORY PAGE 3
