Police pursuit Good Friday turned out to be a bad day for crime in Pakenham, after two separate incidents occurred involving allegedly stolen vehicles. The first saw five teenagers charged following an alleged crime spree across multiple suburbs, ending in Thwaites Road, Pakenham. The second saw three adults arrested in a different stolen car after it was stopped by police on Duncan Drive, Pakenham. STORY PAGE 5

Plan overhaul Cardinia Shire Council has presented a revised draft plan for a new pavilion at the Upper Beaconsfield Recreation Reserve. This comes after a proposed plan last month which scaled back the works significantly was rejected by locals and MPs. The new plan is estimated to cost $7.2m and will see the existing building demolished to construct a brand new pavilion in its place. Last month’s plan was set to cost only $3.7m. The new proposal has been met warmly by user groups of the reserve and by the committee of management, with finer details to be sorted out in the future. Chairman of the committee of management, Bob Taylor, says it is regarded as a “good starting point” by the user groups. STORY PAGE 5

Hold your horses Concerns for the welfare of competitors and livestock forced the cancellation of the Lang Lang Rodeo on Easter Monday. The 78th annual event still drew a crowd, with stall holders and food vendors trying to make the best out of an unfortunate situation. STORY PAGE 11

Dandenong Ranges Association (EDRA) members as to what Gembrook’s rural future looks like. EDRA believes a green wedge management plan needs to be produced by Cardinia Shire Council for the Yarra Valley and Yarra and Dandenong Ranges green wedge zone.

They say it’s 20 years overdue. It would help locals to plan how to re-build and sustain more viable agricultural businesses in the area, they say. Recent legislative changes were made to the Planning and Environment Act 1987 to make clear the objectives of planning for green
