Airport call
Berwick MP Brad Battin has flown the flag for building a new airport in Melbourne’s South East.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday 31 May, he asked for Treasurer Tim Pallas to release all economic data as to the viability of placing an airport in the South East growth corridors.
Mr Battin said the area was set to be a growth area for Melbourne.
“We have so much down there with our growth, our businesses, our factories, our access to ports,“ he said.
“We have heard many times about an airport being an option, an idea, a dream for the future of the southeast.“

Anthony Hutchins was sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars after he admitted abusing the 12-year-old boys in the 1970s.
Victorian County Court Judge Trevor Wraight agreed to wholly suspend the prison sentence for the 81-year-old, who has a lengthy list of physical ailments and a limited life expectancy.
Hutchins has already spent time behind bars for sexually abusing boys and the judge described that experience in the 1980s as having a profound impact on him.

passed away on 5 May, two years after she was diagnosed with the mental health condition. Her father, local personal trainer Robb Evans, said better treatment and education options need to be implemented to protect children and young adults from the disease.
“Obviously the system failed my daughter, because she’s no longer here, but we shouldn’t lose kids to eating disorders, they shouldn’t die from this.
“We need to do better and come up with better solutions.”
It comes as the Federal Government last week announced a $70 million commitment to funding and research for eating disorders and mental health conditions.
