Developers on the record

Cardinia Shire Councillors will begin producing a record of dealings with planning developers after a motion was passed aimed at promoting transparency in planning decisions.

Cardinia Shire Councillor Kaye Cameron proposed the implementation of a compulsory developer contact register. The register will require councillors to list all contact, including phone, email, text, messaging applications, written mail, face to face and the like, with developers within Cardinia Shire in relation to any proposed, current or future planning applications.

Road fixes still in limbo

Hundreds of millions of dollars in road upgrades in the heart of Pakenham are still in limbo almost five months after the Federal Government announced a review into infrastructure that could see a majority of the Pakenham Roads Upgrade scrapped.

Reports indicate the minister responsible received the final report of the National Infrastructure Investment Program Review several weeks ago, yet its consequential findings have yet to be released.

Carn the Pies!

Pakenham’s Tam Murphy is one of more than 100,000 members of the Magpie Army gearing up to support Collingwood at this weekend’s AFL Grand Final against the Brisbane Lions. The veteran Pies member is among those lucky enough to have nabbed a ticket to watch the action live from the MCG.

Ever-increasing requirements see events cancelled, highlighting the...

Price of red tape

Theincreasingburdensofriskandtrafficmanagement, as well as insurance requirements, placed upon volunteer groups has claimed another victim, with Lakeside Residents Group (LRG) cancelling their New Years Eve and Aus-

tralia Day celebrations in Pakenham.

Long-time president of LRG and well respected Stan Henwood Award winner, Wendy Andrews said there simply was no alternative to the tough decision as the list of requirements around risk aversion placed on them by Cardinia Shire Council and other institutions

was described as “onerous” for the 10-person volunteer group to take on and seemed to “never end”.

LRG was happy to work with council and its officers to get these events up which attracted thousands, but informed council earlier this year that it was no longer viable for

them to continue.

The development continues the trend of increasing pressure on community events and volunteers which earlier this year saw Yakkerboo Festival’s iconic parade cancelled in similar fashion.
