Road angst La Trobe MP Jason Wood has spoken out against the Federal Government’s Infrastructure Review, labeling the ongoing pause on major projects in Pakenham and Berwick roads as “disappointing and disgraceful”. In Federal Parliament on Monday 16 October, the opposition moved a motion against the 90-day review which could spell the end of major infrastructure projects across the country, including future stages of the Clyde Road Upgrade in Berwick as well as the majority of the Pakenham Roads Upgrade. “For the residents in Pakenham, on this occasion, who have put up with such poor roads — and it’s such a huge growth corridor — it’s so disappointing and disgraceful that the road funding is now paused and potentially may not go ahead,” Mr Wood said. Tower ruling A new telecommunications tower is set to be constructed on Paternoster Road after a legal dispute with the local residents. Approved by Cardinia Shire Council, the project’s aim is to build a 43-metre monopole at 44 Paternoster Road, south side of the road near the intersection with Bailey Road. The properties of 1, 4, 6 and 23 Paternoster Road have objected to the permit, their primary concern being the landscape, including their private view from their homes and the public view from the general area. After consideration on the impacts and benefits of the community, VCAT ember Rachel Naylor concluded the benefit outweighed the cost and upheld the granting of a permit. STORY PAGE 7
