Lead the way Councillor Jack Kowarzik has been elected unopposed as Cardinia Shire’s mayor for the next year. The Pakenham Hills Ward councillor was honoured to join the list of the many mayors before him and said he was committed to tackling the big issues in the community, such as the cost of living crisis, family violence, local jobs and much more. “It’s not lost on me that there are five former mayors sitting in the chamber tonight,” Cr Kowarzik said. Councillor Graeme Moore was elected deputy mayor in a tight contest between three councillors. STORIES PAGE 5

Cardinia Shire Council is ringing the alarm bells over the State Government’s plan for a massive development of Officer South, expressing concern the promised tens of thousands of local jobs could be at risk with the State Government prioritising housing. A notice of motion will be moved at the council’s next meeting on Monday 20 November calling on the council to begin an advocacy campaign to raise concerns about the plans to delay the development of industrial land and critical infrastructure in Officer South. The council has revealed the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is proposing a staged plan for the Officer South employment precinct which they claim unduly prioritises additional housing. It follows the Victorian Liberal Party’s move to endorse Mary Aldred as its candidate for Monash at the next Federal Election. Mr Broadbent said he believed the low level of support he received from the other party members led him to decide to leave the party

and move to the crossbench. “On Sunday, there was a preselection where I received less than 10 per cent of the vote,” he said. “This was a clear signal from members and one which I believe revokes my licence to

represent the Liberal Party in the electorate of Monash. “It has been an honour to stand in the Parliament as the Liberal member for Monash for the past 25 years.” STORY PAGES 2-3
