Metricon blitz NAOMI and Adam Kosic were still settling into their new Metricon-built home at Lara when devastating news struck their family. A heartbreaking diagnosis of advanced cervical cancer for 33-year-old Naomi Kosic turned the family’s new life on its head. The couple had been desperately saving to landscape their backyard for their children, aged 11 and 7, to play in when the news struck. An initially grim prognosis gave Naomi anywhere between six months and five years to live so she underwent immediate chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The spirited Naomi is doing her best to retain an ordinary life, continuing to volunteer for Gee-
long West St Peter’s Sports Club when she can. “It’s important for our children to live life like normal. I’m a really positive person and a gogetter so it takes a lot to get me down!” she said. It was at the sports club that Naomi’s story inspired fellow parent and Metricon sales and marketing manager Simon Lofts to hatch an idea. Simon and Metricon general manager Phil Barrett arranged for the company’s 15 site managers to perform a “backyard blitz” makeover worth about $9000 of Naomi and Adam’s yard. “This will at least give this family a better quality of life. It was also a great team-building exercise for the builders,” Phil said.
Metricon gained project contributions from Shojun Concrete, Carpet Call, Flinstones Gardens Supplies, Dulux Barwon Timber, Hardings Hardware, Bunnings, Halliday’s Heating and Cooling, Grossmans Sand and Soil, Southern Star Windows, Claytons Kitchens, Ecowaste, Anco Seed and Turf, Bowens Timbertruss, Dahlsons, Dunnies R Us, Leprechaun Landscaping and Faggs Mitre 10. Naomi and Adam are grateful and humbled by the generosity of Metricon and the community. “Vitamin D is really important during the treatment and it will be nice to relax out there with the kids,” Naomi grinned.
