Why did you decide to run for dairy princess? A few of my friends had decided to do it, which pushed me to run last year. Even though last year was a weird year and I didn’t get a lot of those opportunities, I really enjoyed getting to educate others about dairy and why we do what we do.

Glen, Alex and Becky Christen How do you plan to use this position to promote the dairy industry? I plan to be out in the community as much as possible, telling not only my story, but the stories of other dairy farmers and sharing knowledge about dairy foods and the dairy community.

Describe your farm and what your role there has been: My family and I milk about 35 Holstein cows. My role growing up started with feeding the calves, but as I got older, it developed more into the actual milking of the cows .

What is your favorite memory from the farm? My favorite memory from the farm is from back when my youngest sister was born. My parents were still in the hospital, so it was my siblings’ and my responsibility to do the milking early before school. It was defi nitely interesting to work our way through chores at 4:30 in the morning, the whole time talking about our new sister.

Why did you decide to run for dairy princess? I decided to run for Dairy Princess because of my passion for dairy and for the families of the dairy community. The dairy community has played a big role in my life and serving as a Dairy Princess allows me to give back to such a great community. Not only will I be able to share the enjoyment of dairy with everyone I meet at events, but I have the opportunity to support the dairy families of Stearns County and Minnesota.

How do you plan to use this position to promote the dairy industry? During my year as a Dairy Princess, I am going to advocate for dairy when I am in crown and sash during events and even when I am not – always positively promoting the dairy community. I plan to reach out and connect to as many people as I can during my year as a Dairy Princess.

Describe your farm and what your role there has been: My family’s fourth-generation dairy farm is located just north of St. Anthony. We mainly milk Holsteins with a handful of Jerseys. The roles I have on the farm can vary greatly depending on the season. I do chores that range from feeding the cattle to assisting in calf care, operating machinery to complete different fi eld operations and helping with building and maintenance work, to working in the shop to assist with equipment repair.

What is your favorite memory from the farm? It is hard for me to pick what my favorite memory of the farm is because I am fond of all my farm memories. One of my fondest memories is going on hayrides in the summer. What makes these hayrides so special is taking different neighbors with on the rides. On one hayride in particular, I remember going through St. Anthony and picking up people in town and on our way through again we dropped them off. It is amazing to live in a community that is so close, and I am thankful for these memories.
