Join Linda Radimecky, DNR park naturalist, to learn the basics of fly tying. Radimecky will discuss the equipment needed to tie flies, how to use the equipment and the basics of tying simple flies. Dec. 22 – Learning to Hunt as an Adult Are you an adult interested in hunting but don’t know where to start? Join James Burnham, DNR Recruit, Retain, Reactivate coordinator, and hunter Julia Schrenkler as they talk about resources for new adult hunters and tips and tricks to get you out into the woods and fields. Dec. 29 – Introduction to Trapping Furbearers Ever been interested in trapping? Join Brittany Schaber, a Minnesota trapper, and John Erb, DNR research biologist and trapping educator, as they talk about what it takes to get started in trapping, where you can trap, and some tips and tricks to be more successful. Jan. 5, 2022 – High School Clay Target Program Learn about the Minnesota clay target program from Jason Kelvie from the USA High School Clay Target League. Kelvie will provide information on how to register your school program; divisions of competition; when the league starts shooting begins; and competing in high school clay target shoots and the state championships. Jan. 12, 2022 – Ice Angling for Panfish Ever thought about extending your fishing into the hard-water season? Join Scott Mackenthun, a DNR area fisheries supervisor, as he talks about the ever-popular Minnesota panfish species – sunfish, crappie and perch. Whether you are brand new to ice fishing or have a lifetime of experience, join this presentation to learn angling tips and techniques you can put to good use. Mackenthun will cover gear and equipment, and how to read lake maps and survey reports with a focus on catching panfish and having fun on the ice. Jan. 19, 2022 – Darkhouse Spearing Imagine it is dark and you are holding a spear near a hole in the ice hoping to see a large northern pike near your decoy. What’s next?

Feb. 2, 2022 – Snowshoeing and Cross-country Skiing Basics Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are great ways to get outside in winter, enjoy beautiful landscapes and get exercise. Join us for a discussion with Carly Hawkinson, DNR park naturalist at Jay Cooke State Park, and Claire Wilson, executive director of The Loppet Foundation, as they share where you can learn about these winter sports and what else you need to know to get started. Feb. 9, 2022 – Introduction to Winter Camping Ever wanted to extend your camping adventures further into the year? Winter camping is a fantastic way to get out and explore all that Minnesota has to offer. Jason Jech from the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center will talk about some of the equipment needed, tips and tricks to help you enjoy your adventure and a few reasons why winter might be the best time to go camping. Feb. 16, 2022 – Introduction to Maple Syruping Gathering maple sap to turn into maple syrup has been a timehonored tradition that results in a sweet treat throughout the year. Join Kao Thao, state park naturalist, and Colleen Foehrenbacher from the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center for tips on collecting sap, boiling the sap and bottling the results. Feb. 23, 2022 – Archery Bow Hunting Basics Learn how to select a hunting compound bow and the bow accessories needed to hunt effectively in the field. Desiree Holmberg, volunteer with the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program, will share her experience learning to archery hunt.
