SAFETY INSTRUCTION General Guidence READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE USING THE LMS-30 LASER DISTANCE METER BY STARRETT. CAUTION Retain this manual for future reference or to pass on information to other users who may come to operate the LMS-30 Laser Distance Meter by STARRETT. Proceed as instructed in this manual. Dear User: This manual contains installation and operation details for the LMS-30 Laser Distance Meter by STARRETT. This device is suitable for measuring internal environments for distances between 0.05m to 30m. CAUTION TO USE THE LMS-30 LASER DISTANCE METER BY STARRETT, PLEASE FOLLOW THE BASIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY RISK OF INJURY.

Always keep the work area tidy. A disorganised workplace can cause accidents. Keep children and other visitors away from the workplace. Secure the device when not in use. Store in a dry place out of reach of children. The LMS-30 Laser Distance Meter by STARRETT should not be exposed to moisture. Never use the device in environments with a risk of explosion.

Always use appropriate Individual Protective Equipment (IPE). Never replace parts or pieces yourself and do not ask someone else to do so for you. In the event that maintenance is needed then enter into contact with STARRETT via the website: www.starrett.com Use only original parts or pieces. Never look directly into the laser beam or point it at the eyes of other people or animals. This is a Class 2 laser tool, laser radiation is emitted from this product and is manufactured to comply IEC 60825-1: 2007, EN 60825-1:2007, EN 61326-1:2013 and CRF21, parts 1040.10 and 1040.11. OPERATION Installing / Replacing the Batteries This device is powered by 2 AAA batteries. Battery status can be checked via the display icon: •
Batteries fully charged.
•
Batteries approximately 60% charged.
•
Batteries approximately 25% charged.
•
Batteries less than 5% charged. Replace the batteries using the following procedure:
Caution! Make sure that the instrument is turned off before any maintenance or replacement of batteries is carried out. If the instrument is not used for more than two weeks, remove the batteries and store them in a dry place out of direct sunlight. - Slide off the battery cover and remove it from the instrument. - Replace the batteries taking note of their polarity. - Replace the battery cover. - Always use new batteries. - Never mix new and used batteries, as this will affect instrument performance.

OPERATION Switching the Instrument On & Off Install the batteries that come with the instrument. See item: “Installing / Replacing the Batteries”. To turn on the STARRETT LMS-30 Laser Distance Meter, press the button once. The instrument will then run internal checks for a few seconds, after which it will present the display screen ready to start measurements.. CAUTION When the instrument is switched on the laser is automatically turned on and will remain on for a period of time. Never look directly into the laser beam or direct the beam into the eyes of others. To switch off the instrument press and hold the
button until you heard a long beep.
Reference Measurement THE STARRETT LMS-30 allows for a reference measurement, front or rear, which can be selected as follows: 1-

OPERATION Continuous Measurement For continuous measurements, continue as shown below: 1-

Addition & Subtraction of Measurements THE STARRETT LMS-30 has functions for the addition and subtraction of simple distance measurements. To use these functions, continue as shown below: 1-
Under the simple distance measurement mode press the measurement.

Once the first measurement is taken, press the addition (+) and subtraction (-).
3-
Press the button again to obtain a second measurement which will be added to or subtracted from the first measurement.

The result is automatically displayed on the screen.

TROUBLESHOOTING Troubleshooting Error Code
