What is Start Off Start Off is an “Engage with AIESEC” initiative, powered by AIESEC AUC, founded in 2012. The project acts as an intermediate phase between high school and university, providing high schoolers with the opportunity to develop their soft skills and jump-start their leadership potential. Start Off achieves this through a 1-day opening ceremony & session, and a 3-day, 2-night conference. Preparation for Start Off is conducted over the course of May, June and July. The session and conference, however, are held in June and July. Start Off provides a wide array of diverse topics, and it has been noted on several occasions by previous “Start Offers” how these sessions came to help them later on in their lives. In addition to the soft skills the students gain, Start Off also integrates the participants and helps them understand what AIESEC is and what it does. This not only broadens their scope of understanding, but it also provides them with the opportunity to already be a part of something as soon as they enter university.

Start Off evolution As AIESEC 2020 begins to come into perspective, and with the evolution of the AIESEC experience, as a network we’re beginning to look at creating solid products and initiatives for EWAs and LLCs. Start Off being an EWA initiative, this year we want to start looking at how this can be the start of a high schooler’s journey into AIESEC, and begin to see how we can shape this around the LDM, so that it can be the beginning of a path to leadership development. Are you wiling to be start and contribute to this legacy?

Facts and information 1. What sort of logistics will I need? What will my expenses look like? If you arrive before the conference to tour Egypt and such, we will provide you accommodation with our interns for free. Also, during the conference, accommodation and food are also provided free. So you can make the most out of this experience, we try our best to minimize your expenses during your stay, so you don’t need to worry about that. All you have to cover is your flight ticket & visa, and your expenses during your stay (such as food and outings). And of course, you’ll be picked up and dropped off at the airport.

2. What will I benefit from this experience? Well of course, there is the usual, and that is the experience you gain from facilitating sessions, however, because Start Off’s target audience is High Schoolers, not only do you learn from facilitating sessions to a differently cultured people (i.e. Egyptians), but you also get to learn from facilitating sessions to a different age group. Additionally, you’ll get to tour Egypt, should you wish to stay beyond the days of the conference, and experience the Egyptian culture. And finally, because your accommodation will be hosted in our interns’ apartments, not only do you get to experience the Egyptian culture, but you get a flavour of a variety of the different cultures our interns have to provide.

3. How can I make my experience more fruitful in Egypt? If selected as a Start Off FACI, you’ll also have the choice to go on a GCDP or GE with AIESEC AUC. We needn’t tell you more on what you can learn from such an experience. Check out our IGCDP opportunities and GE opportunities.

4. When would I be required to come to Egypt? Start Off will take place during the second half of July (between 14th of July to the 30th of July), however the exact dates are yet to be determined. As a FACI, you would be required to attend 3 days of the conference, plus a day for the pre-meeting (i.e. a total of 4 days). However, we would love if you could make it before then, to tour Egypt and spend some time with the FACI team.

For an idea on prices and more on Egypt, take a look at our reception booklet.
