Using product is a way of interaction between the users and the product. In other words, it is a concept of give and receive. However, bike is a simpler mechanism than some other electrial devices. Thus, we want to create a similar mechanism not only for exercising, but also for enhancing enjoyment.

In order to verify that our idea is realisable, we use water pipes to make a simple rough model and use heat gun to bend them.
1/ We choose wood to be our material for setting up the supporting structure. 2/ First, we bought a second-hand bicycle. Thus, we have to do some preliminary arrangement. 3/ Using screws and wooden glue to combine two pieces of woods.

Process 1/ First, we use rim tape to connect the front part with trailing wheel. Then, we modify the bike to be front-wheel drive. Therefore, both wheels can be driven when we are pedaling. 2/ We lengthen the brake cable to the front in order to let the caliper brake can control the colors to spurt out or not. 3/ Using gears to change the rotation direction of the wheel and the sprayer. Besides, we use ball retainer to make the rotation more smoother. 4/ Using aluminem tubes screwed to the wooden structure to support the heavy color bucket.

Our inspiration comes from the thread wrapping machine which is a machine made to create wholly different products from what people have imagined. Our color bike has the same concept that we rearrange the components from the bike and add something new. Thus, this bicycle has a new life that can not only ride but create unique colors and patterns on papers as "art works."

Both umbrellas and raincoats have its own strengths and weaknesses. W h e n w e a re r i d i n g b i c y c l e s in rainy day, we tend to wear raincoat. However, as we get off the bike, it is more convenient to use an umbrella. Rainsformer combines both umbrellas and raincoats’ advantages, using the frame of the umbrella and poncho. Let a raincoat easily transforms into an umbrella.

Concept Most of the time, it is really dangerous to wear raincoat when riding bike because the general length of raincoat is near the tires. Therefore, we think poncho is the better choice. In addition, the area of poncho is similar to the surface of an umbrella. These are the reasons why we combine them together. We make Rainsformer adapt to every situation especially for people who rides bike.

This toaster is designed for Parker, the main character of Avatar, to show the back-to-nature concept of near future. First I copied one existing toaster to know the basic form of it, then put images of coming future that calls for nature into toster to make Parker' s own toaster.

Concept People nowadays lead a busy and mediocre life. They check out clocks every moment: time to have a meeting, time to finish the work, time to hand out proposals. Clocks have become one kind of pressure sources. Why not change the clock into a work of art, not for telling time to people, but for being a decoration in houses or workplaces?

material Sheet metal and glass are chosen for this design to make it more like an elegant art work than an ordinary clock. There are 60 drilled holes surrounding the circle, in each has put a white LED as the "hand" of clock. The metal rod acting as a stopper to stop the light at the middle of the circle.

Background Often, we open the fridge to find that there are so many foods put randomly in it, just like a huge box of kitchen waste! People always put things into the fridge without a second thoughts, no matter the categories or ways of preservation, and even forget what are still in it, making lots of food expired unconsciously. This may increase the chance of cross infections between foods, and not easy to find nor take things out, making the fridge messier and messier, the qualities of foods getting worse. 28 works

The best way to preserve food is doing some simple cleaning, chopping, draining and packaging right after the purchase, then place them into crispers. It will be much better if crispers are vacuumed. In this way, it is easy to keep foods fresh and convenient to take them out of fridge. Keeping records of food items can help people efficiently use the ingredients, so foods won’t lay in fridge being forgotten and expired. As a result, food waste at home can be decreased.

Cut an apple into a half, and put one into the fridge directly, another after placed in a vacuum crisper. Three d a y s l at e r, w e f o u n d t h at the former one shrank and oxidized while the latter is as fresh as the first day. Adding the function of vacuum preservation to Crispal Crisper, there will be a more efficient food preservation and utilization.

Crispal System offers a food management application for users to get clear information of foods, and even provides recipes to make good use of ingredients already purchased. 29 works
Introduction “ Crispal� is a food management and preservation system including Crispal Crispers and a food management application. Drawer-like vacuum crispers are easy to stack up, and the inner box where foods are put can be taken out individually; besides, the design of the handle valve makes it intuitive to pull the handle and release vacuum at the same time, then the drawer can be opened. As for the application, by scanning receipts, it can build food information rapidly, remind users of expiration dates and provide recipes to make good use of foods.Through this system, we can decrease the chance of food waste and improve family health and safety. 30 works

While pumping, the color detector detects the color of the handle then sends it to the application by bluetooth, so the interface will show up information of the corresponding crisper.

The handle of drawer plays an important role in vacuum device. The metal part up front is a support while pulling out and waiting for reaching pressure balance; the middle part is a soft and flexible silicone handle whose contact surface with front cap of the inner box must be flat, or the vacuum device won’t work. The bottom part is a knob which users can remove while the crisper needs washing.

The ringed groove surrounding the handle fits the mouth of vacuum machine, making it perfectly sealed while pumping. The inner box containing foods can be taken out and placed in separately. When placing it into the outer box, magnets on the back of both outer and inner boxes attract each other, making these two parts closely attached. In this way, the crisper can be perfectly sealed.

Aim the ringed groove surrounding the handle and press the power button, the machine will start pumping and automatically stop until the inner space becomes vacuumed. Pressure difference makes the handle being closely attached to former cap of the crisper, and makes sure the drawer crisper is vacuumed.

To make it more convenient, we use the technologies of scanning QR codes on receipts, and filtering keywords to get food items and expiration dates instead of manual entering. In this way, the system can get more than a record at once.

Imitating Existing Toaster To learn the existing toasters' shape and form, the first work to do is imitating a real toaster. The size of toaster is nearly two cubes of PUs, so I need to spray a layer of transparent spray, then wait it until it is dry. Next stick them together with super glue. Being sure that the PU is ready to be cut, use a saw to roughly cut it to the shape of toaster. Then is time to focus on details to make it more like real one: no matter the shape, notches for putting toasts in, the switch......, every part is important to make up a toaster.

Character Analyzing The character I chose is Parker in Avatar. Parker is a lame person in real life, but when he is transferred to Planet Pandora, he is a healthy Avatar (the creature which is halfhuman and half-Na'vi) who can run and hop whenever he wants. After living with the Na'vis and noticing their ecofriendly behaviors, Parker wants to stay in Planet Pandora. The story takes place at 2154, so it is a future that we can only imagine. But from this movie, we can tell that in the future, human can no longer harm the mother nature. We suppose to be in harmony with it, be friendly to it, and be easy and calm to live lives. Having this concept in mind, I start to make the "Little Nature."

When it comes to future, the concept of going back to the nature occur to my mind. As time goes by, people will soon know that the mother nature is not as strong as we have thought; it is harmed by human for a long time, and is looking forward to having a friendly relationship with them. Thus, the near future will be a nature-friendly world that is ecology, with structures built with natural materials. And people will have a free and relaxing life without too much burden or stress of living. On the other hand, because of global warming, the see level might raise over the ground so people will need to live on man-made land which float on the see. This is the result of doing harm to the nature so people must bear the consequence. The following pictures are the blueprint of nature in my mind.

Process We were asked to make the same size as the former toaster, so I again stick two PUs together and cut it to the approximate shape of my design. Cutting and grinding PU are not difficult tasks; but after putting on putty, it is a lone and tough way to go. Because my "Little Nature" contains many curves and big radius, the grinding process of putty takes a lot of time and energy. Being a perfectionist, I grind the toaster for a long time, until the surface is smooth enough. After all the grinding, it is time to spray. Spraying is another thing that must be very careful. at last, my "Little Nature" is born,

Product Look "Little Nature" is a toaster calling for the eco-friendly future look, including the shape of mountain ridges, a toast notch for one-pieceonly, and the blue color of Avatar. The mountain-like organic shape of it resembles our beuatiful mother nature, simple but stunning. As for the single toast notch, because I think people in the future will lead a simple and relaxing like, they won' t hurry for baking many toasts at the same time. What' s so important that you must rush? And at last, it is a toaster designed for Parker in Avatar, the beuatiful blue might be a good choice. Little Nature takes a lot of time, and I like the final look very much.

Shine and shadow are existing side by side. What shape is your object then what will your shadow be. According to this concept, while changing your lampshade, you can have variable shadow projected to ceilings, walls, and floors to increase some different atmosphere.

Schematic Diagram My " Shinedow" is a cubic lamp that has six faces and each has its own carved shape resembling different stories. To see each story projected on walls and cielings, just rotate the cardboard cube by the track, t h e n t h e b u l b w i l l m a ke shadows appear. Prototype
To make sure that my idea can work, I tried to make a rough prototype by using cardboards. The toughest part of this design is whether the track works as my imagination. When it came out the result that it is workable, then anything will be all right. After experimenting the track, it is time for the real model. I work hard carving each "story" onto the clean cardboard, desinging for the structure of folding carton. After finishing the landshape, build it up with bulb and stand then "Shinedow" is done.

Springback Experiment Due to the characteristics of bamboo, spring back will happen for any banding radius and angle which means that bamboo has a tendency to return to its original shape because of the elastic recovery of the bamboo. Therefore, take the first step, we have to know the relationship between spring back and some factors including steam temperature, steam time, compression force, compression time, dry temperature, dry time, and cooling time. In order to get this information, we do a series of experiments. After that, we can know the amout of springback. Then, compansate this amout to the bending next time in order to get the value we want.

Multi-curve Experiment After a series of researches and experiments, we found out the most appropriate parameters, including steam time, steam temperature, dry temperature experiment, we realize the importance of drying. If the time of drying is enough, we can control the amount of spring back in a bearable range - 1~2 degree. As we know the details about bending bamboo, the next step is to try multi-curve bending.

Research key point Subway, in Tokyo, is the main transportation for both Japanese and travelers due to its swiftness and wide-ranging routes. However, even it comes every 1~2 minutes, in the peak time, it is still very crowded. Then the question is : Can the subway system afford doubled population in Tokyo where Olympic is going to hold in 2020 ?
transportation As a visitor in Tokyo, I delve into the differences between some transportation including the subway, train, bus, and bicycle system as well as compare their advantages and disadvantage. I find out that although the two sites are close, some visitors prefer to take the subway rather than to walk in order to prevent from getting lost.
visitors’ behaviors I observe and interview some visitors that what do they do when they come to Tokyo a n d w h at d o t h e y w a n t t o g e t f ro m t h i s travel. The common point is that they all like to take picture. Rice is the main food for Asians. It has a great variety of categories, with different colors and tastes. This experimental design focuses on testing the property of different kinds of rice and applys it to design a lampshade.

We put the uncooked rice into the blender to crush it into juice. Filter the juice to get the solid part and glue it in order to to form into shapes. After all process, we get the perfectlyshaped rice models with beautiful colors.

The Rice Lampshade
The making process of this lampshade is similar with the former experiment, but put the glued rice onto a bloom instead of putting it into molds. We put different kinds of rice in different orders, or even mix them to create a brand new look. Due to their vivid colors, every lampshade is the very unique one.

Everyone has a lonely world in his or her deeper mind. So I want to make a lamp which can gives warm atmosphere to anybody. I decide to make a colorful and ballon-shape draped lamp that has the symbolic image of warm and hope (depending on the ballon), and hope to convey the same feelings to everyone who sees it.

The materials we need to make this lamp are balloon, white glue, tissue papers, and different colors of color pigments.The first step is to blow the bolloon and fix it to a base. The second is to mixed white glue and water to be our adhesive. Then, put tissues on the ballon and brush some adhesive on it layer by layer.Paint colors you like on the tissue papers.Wait for three days until the glue becomes dry, and pierce the ballon to get the lampshape. Put a bulb into the lampshade, then the colorful and cute lamp is done.

Wreck-It Ralph is a project inspired by the movieWreck It Ralph. As a product designer, mechanism is one of the elements to make up a product. The most practical and efficient way is to take a real product apart which is already mass produced. By this way, we can know why the material is choosed, the shape is designed,and how the product is mass produced, the machanism is applied.

Take It Apart!
The first product we choose is a normal lamp bought from flea market. With some screwdrivers, it is time to take it apart! The order of pictures goes from the left side to the right, then from top to down: 1/ This picture is a lamp which bulb is taken out. 2/ It' s the front view of the lamp without bulb. 3/ It has a lamp holder to fixed the bulb and two metal clips to conduct electricity. 4/ The bulb illumination can be adjusted by a knob.

The order of pictures goes from the left side to the right, then from top to down: 1/ We found out that the main part of this lamp is a board which has a variable resistor to control illumination, capacitor, inductor, transistor and some other components on it. 2/ There are a lots of screw holes and ledges to fixed the svrews and other components. 3/ We are dicussing about the structure of the lamp, and drawing down what we figured out. 4/ It has a very heavy iron plate to avoid the lamp from turning over. 91 projects
