Best Study Spots Classrooms

Some students may not realize that just because you are not in class doesn’t mean you can’t go in the classrooms. Empty classrooms are the perfect place for group study sessions. They have plenty of white boards to write on and individual desks so everyone can have their own space. Just be sure to check the buildings’ closing hours.

MSU Law Library Second floor

Brody, Shaw, or Case cafeterias

The second floor of the law library is open to anyone. Make sure you bring your laptop if you need it because there aren’t any computers up there. Stay off the first floor (for law students only), but this study spot is a hidden gem.

Personally, we’re big fans of the Brody cafeteria, but there are plenty of other great places to eat around campus. Head to one of the newer cafeterias and stake out a table. You can spend all day studying there and eat as much as you want.

MSU Union

MSU Business Library

Anyone can use this library; it’s not just for business students! It has a quiet section in the back and tables for groups in the front. The business library is a nice alternative to the main library. You will probably lose all phone reception, so you’re not distracted by chatty friends.

The Women’s Lounge is a perfect spot for ladies who like to study in silence, while the basement and first floors have plenty of seating for group work and a more relaxed study environment. The Union Dining also has late night from 8 p.m.- midnight, so grab a table and study in there for all you can eat!

Tip: Bring an extension cord and/ or power strip to make sure you can plug in your laptop.

Espresso Royale, Grand River Coffee, Starbucks, and Red Cedar Cafe Get your caffeine fix and get your study on!

Finals Week Stress Relief Stress relievers The Main Library will have therapy dogs for stressed-out students to pet. They will be there at the following dates and times: Monday, April 28 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 30 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Laughing relieves stress! Your biology notes probably aren’t the funniest thing. Instead, you should check out MTV’s Girl Code, Kevin Hart’s stand up, or any other silly video on YouTube.

Exercise

(in any form) is a proven stress-reliever. Go for a run, take a yoga class, or even Calories don’t count during finals week! Treat yourjust do a few jumping jacks next self to your favorite snacks, and it’s even better when you don’t to your study area at the library, have to move. SelfControl for Mac OS X: selfcontrolapp.com or Cold Turkey for Windows: getcoldturkey.com If you’re anything like us, you have no self-control when it comes to procrastinating on the internet. Download these apps and you can restrict access to websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Buzzfeed for a predetermined amount of time while still being able to browse the rest of the web. Careful, once you start the timer it cannot be undone by restarting your computer or deleting the app — you have to wait for time to run out.

Set goals. Make a list of everything you want to accomplish and stick to it. Staring at your books aimlessly usually doesn’t work.

Take a break.

TESTING TIPS

Arrive early! Give yourself some time to get settled and focused. Stay relaxed and confident. Keeping a good attitude is key to success! Chew mint gum. Some studies show that the mint can help stimulate your brain. Bonus points if you chew the same gum while you’re studying.

Get a good night’s sleep. You want to be well rested before an exam. Read directions. It might seem obvious, but silly mistakes can cost you on a big test.
