CASE STUDY HELPING ACADEMIC ACCOUNTS
WHAT WE DO STA Travel are passionate about inspiring the next generation and supporting the learning of students. That means our team spend hours on campus, attending careers days, freshers’ fairs and industry meet & greets. This gives us an opportunity to impart our knowledge onto students. This year, was decided to get more hands on with supporting the learning of students at our university partners.
Beyond the inspiring educational group trips we supply, we believe that we have a duty to go above and beyond for our customers & their students. Utilising the knowledge we have accumulated through years in the industry & cascading it down through every avenue we have open to us. We use our network of UK stores as a base for students learning at university level, and store managers and executives are at the disposal of course leaders, as well as our development team.
WHY WE DO IT As an experienced Travel Management Company, we know there are huge amounts of value we can add to any Leisure & Tourism university course. With over 40 years’ experience in the industry, we hold volumes of learnings that simply can’t be found in a text book. As a large & recognisable brand, we find our words resonate highly with students. We use the leverage of our brand and our expertise to ensure that our partners have a highly engaging and influential course content. With the power of a global brand
and years in the industry, we feel it is our duty to pass on as much knowledge as we can to the next generation. In order to support the modules in various UK based universities, we will work with course leaders on specific content they wish their students to address. We are on hand from the launch of the project, right through to marking & final stages.
CASE STUDY THE UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE Beyond fresher’s fairs & placement talks that our development team regularly attend, STA Travel have become an integral part of the curriculum for many of our partners. This year we launched a project with partner University of Gloucestershire. Working specifically with the Leisure & Tourism students, STA Travel collaborated with course leaders to design a brief that aligned with learnings from their course. Our aim was for this project to ultimately be a valuable piece of work for the students.
“The involvement of STA Travel Education in designing a live brief for our students is an excellent example of the kind of study environment that we are trying to create – one that enables students to develop innovative products and solutions, whilst being aware of the wider context that they are working in. The University is committed to developing graduates who are engaged, enquiring, empowered, empathetic and ethical in their approach towards business and entrepreneurship. The ethos of STA Travel as a globally responsible business resonates with exactly these attributes. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Adele Wise and Molly Chapman, whose professionalism and passion for the travel business have been a true source of inspiration and brought the subject to life.”
The brief asked students to design an educational trip for a group booking. This required students to carefully consider educational outcomes, group pricing across flights, transfers & accommodation. We asked students to think outside of the box in terms of potential issues & crisis situations. Students from this course presented back to the STA Travel team & the winning itinerary was then adapted, checked and uploaded to the STA Travel Groups website.

CASE STUDY THE UNIVERSITY OF DERBY STA Travel have a long-standing relationship with the University of Derby, booking successful group trips for a number of years. STA Travel highlighted to the Leisure & Tourism department that our knowledge could be used to leverage the learning of students on their Leisure & Tourism course. In December 2018, STA Travel launched a project with the students on this course. The brief required students to put together a beginning to end destination guide for a number of up and coming destinations, as identified by internal trends. The project was agreed with course leaders
and required students to work in groups in order to pull together comprehensive guides. Throughout the project, STA Travel were on hand to offer advice to the students. Countless times the team were present at the university, going over guidelines, listening to presentations and offering hands-on guidance. For this collaboration with the University of Derby we were nominated for the Employer Engagement Award held by the university. We are currently awaiting the results.
“Working with STA Travel on the Educational Destination Guides has given our students a great insight into marketing and writing for different audiences within the travel industry. The team at STA Travel (Molly and Lauren) have been into the University to help advise and work with our second year BA (Hons) students. Each session has been lively and engaging; the students have loved the sessions and feedback has been extremely positive. We are hoping to work on a similar project again next year.
