ED’S STORY... Ed studied Film, Photography and Music Technology at St Brendan’s and is now going on to a Photography degree at Arts University Bournemouth. WHY DID YOU COME TO ST BRENDAN’S? I was interested in going into the film industry for my career, and the Sixth Form of the school I was at didn’t offer Film A-Level but St Brendan’s did. WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THE COURSES YOU STUDIED? The courses I chose were mainly all my hobbies at the time. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do as a career so I thought that if I did the things I enjoy, it would help me to refine what sort of role I’d want to go into. HOW IS ST BRENDAN’S DIFFERENT FROM SCHOOL? It was weird starting college at first because everything is so completely different from school - you can wear the clothes you want rather than a uniform and you call your teachers by their first names. This made college more personal and helped me to feel closer to my teachers. It made it a nicer environment to be in and made me feel more adult as we all saw each other as equals. HOW DID YOU LEVEL UP AT ST BRENDAN’S? It’s a life lesson to think: ‘How can I be better at what I’m doing?’ and St Brendan’s really helped to teach me that - which is a lesson I’ll use for the rest of my life. It is about looking at whatever you’re doing, thinking about what you could do better, and looking at how you can do that by learning from mistakes you have made. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO STUDENTS THINKING ABOUT APPLYING TO ST BRENDAN’S? St Brendan’s offers so many opportunities to do or try anything you would like to, but it is your responsibility to take those opportunities, follow your passions, and try things you might be interested in learning.
