We have many exciting opportunities coming up so please make sure you check them out. This is a great way to get some experience ether to collect valuable content for your future personal statements or to boost your CV if you are currently graduating or planning to carry on with an apprenticeship. I mentioned previously that you will face fierce competition in the current market no matter what your further destination is so ask yourself “How can I be the best version of myself? How can I improve and be ready to face the next step?” Please see what opportunities have been added this week and I hope to see many of you engaging with these!!!”

Spend your summer developing your research and quantitative skills on a short project that will enhance your university application and future employment opportunities.


Do you want to apply your scientific and data knowledge skills to a real-world research or projects?

Do you have at least five GCSE's or Scottish Nationals at Level 6/Level B or above, including mathematics, a science subject and English or another humanities subject?

Are you studying one or more A Levels or Scottish Highers (or equivalent_ in a science subject, technology, engineering, economics, geography, psychology or maths? Nuffield Research Placements are supervised but independent research projects relating to an area of science, quantitative social science, computing, technology, engineering or maths ( or a combination of these) They take place over the summer after Year 12 or S5 involving both online activities and two weeks on site research (COVID dependent). Placements take place at a variety of locations - offices, museums, research centres, labs or fieldwork. Placement activity will be FREE, travel costs are REIMBURSED and you may be eliglible to receive a bursary.

Business & Entrepreneurship Pathways to Entrepreneurship Date: Tuesday 15th December 4.00 pm - 5.30 pm ‘This is the chance to hear from entrepreneurs about their journey into the sector: what drives them and what were those early crucial steps in setting up their businesses. Guests include Tim Lee, CEO of Mindful Chef and Baroness Helena Morrisey, Founder of the 30% Club. Following a chance to ask questions, you’ll develop your own entrepreneurial skills in tackling a real world problem with other students, supported by IU staff and a guest speaker. Milbank Insight to Law Event Date: Wednesday 17th February 2021, 1.30 pm - 4.30 pm Deadline to apply: Monday 8th February Milbank is hosting an insight to Law event, this session will give you advice on how to become a solicitor, including CV, LinkedIn and interview tips from their recruitment team. The Environment Agency has partnered with

Brunel University London and hydraulics experts

HR Wallingford to offer a sponsored foundation of science degree in

Flood and Coastal Engineering (FaCE). You could be a part of making a difference in protecting communities from the risks. Brunel are hosting a free

30 minute informative session about this degree with expert speakers via the Learn Live platform on

Friday 11 December at 10am. The course is taught over two years and offers two six month paid work placements where students can earn ÂŁ1,000 per month at the Environment Agency. They'll also get to spend one week at HR Wallingford's summer school gaining access to their amazing facilities.

Royal Navy Area Engagement Team – South West England The Royal Navy Area Engagement Team, based at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset, aims to increase awareness and visibility of the work of the Royal Navy amongst young people between 10-25 years of age. We deliver a variety of activities in a fun and engaging manner which inform participants about the role of the Royal Navy in tandem with providing personal and life skills development. The activities delivered by the team include: A dynamic presentation- including multi-media, raising awarenes of the many facets of the Royal Navy. A lived experience talk- from members of the team about their varied careers and the opportunities afforded to them during their time in the Royal Navy. (Ideal for present climates). Nautical challenge Two-hour engagement including theoretical and practical evolutions. Each session is broken down into points of the compass, North/South/ East/West, with different scenarios for each point, incorporating a series of activities ranging from rocket-building to search and rescue. Confidence building and personal development Focus on the exploration, understanding and development of interpersonal and team skills. Practical Leadership Tasks. (PLT’s) Group activities using a variety of different equipment. Coaching and feedback given to all participants. Basic seamanship skills Knot tying (Bends & Hitches). Lost at sea challenge.


Fitness and wellbeing activities Circuits delivered by Royal Navy Physical Training Instructors, Enhanced Training Leaders and/or sports teams. “Cook and Serve” Cookery workshops delivered by Royal Navy specialist chefs with a focus on healthy eating and maximising resources. STEM & MTA Kit. Team building activities and group tasks with a STEM focus. Basic, intermediate and advanced level activities.

Specific themed activity days - such as International Women’s Day/Week events. Utilising an inflatable Football goal, Bungee run, Giant Assault Course. Working limitations- We can Engage for half or a full working day with a maximum of 30 students per session (10 student = 1 Adult). Each team member holds a fully Enhanced DBS Certificate, with a full catalogue of risk assessments available. All our activities can be customised depending on the audience and can be delivered on weekdays or evenings. Our sessions can also be of variable duration. The team will deploy to locations around the BaNES, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire region.
