Are you staying with St. Brendan's for your A-levels? Hello Students, Welcome back to learning after your break. Reflecting on yesterday's Boris announcement it looks like summer 2021 should be the best time after this dark and hard winter. While this gives us hope to look forward, I would like to remind you about the work experience program that will take place in July. So, with this hopeful news of better life finally coming back, I encourage you to participate in the work experience program activities early. (sun) The benefits you will get: Real employer engagement that will enhance your CV and UCAS personal statement The experience might suggest what career you should work towards in your A-levels If you complete virtual work experience equivalent to 10 hours now, then in summer you will only have to commit to the 5-hour project. Which will give you more time to meet with your friends and family. Doesn't that sound like a bargain? Remember that if you applied to stay with St. Brendan's WEx is one of the key elements you have to complete to be accepted for your Alevel studies. If you don't complete WEx now, then during summer you will have to commit to full 15 hours to complete employability activities in college. I will be posting more opportunities shortly so keep an eye and, in the meantime, explore what's already available. If you have any questions, please drop me an email at lmi@stbrn.ac.uk

A fully-funded opportunity to experience life and study at Cambridge Thanks to a generous philanthropic commitment to the Foundation Year, no tuition fees will be charged for the course. Students admitted to the Foundation Year will also receive a full scholarship to cover rent and other living costs. All Foundation Year students who complete the programme with a Pass or above will receive a recognised Level 4 CertHE qualification from the University of Cambridge, which will enable them to access a wide range of undergraduate level courses. Those attaining at 65% or higher will be able - should they wish to do so - to progress straight through to a full undergraduate degree at Cambridge in one of eighteen courses in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You can find out more here: www.cam.ac.uk/foundationyear Interested students will need to apply directly to the Foundation Year via UCAS by the January 2022 deadline for study beginning in October 2022. The academic entry requirement is 120 UCAS points. This is equivalent to BBB at A-Level, but allows for easy equivalence of a wide range of Level 3 qualifications, and for fair consideration of combinations of qualifications such as BTECs and A-Levels. This level has been chosen because we believe it represents an achievable level of attainment for candidates who have had nonAcademic requirements for Foundation Year entry traditional journeys to higher education while also providing evidence of a firm academic foundation from which students will have a good chance of progressing to Cambridge from the programme.
