What is Access to Leeds? The Access to Leeds scheme allows us to identify students who have the potential to succeed at the university but who may not be able to demonstrate their talents through grades alone. Eligible applicants who receive an offer from the University also receive an Access to Leeds offer up to two A level grades (or equivalent) below their standard offer. For example, AAA is reduced to ABB. The Access to Leeds alternative offer is conditional on the applicant making the University of Leeds their firm choice and successfully completing the Access to Leeds module. This module focuses on the development of essential study skills and provides an opportunity to complete work for the academic department the student hopes to study with. Further information on the module can be found here.

Application Deadlines Access to Leeds applications must be received by the following deadlines: For Medicine and Dentistry applicants: Wednesday, 6th November 2019 For applicants to all other courses: Wednesday, 26th February 2020 It would be beneficial to the applicant if their Access to Leeds application form is submitted as soon as possible after the submission of their UCAS application. Applicants must also submit their UCAS application by the relevant UCAS deadlines.

Exclusive BBC wildlife event The BBC is hosting a one-off event to show the next generation of naturalists how to make wildlife shows like Planet Earth BBC Studios' Natural History unit has been turning out award-winners such as Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Dynasties, led by national treasure David Attenborough, since the 1950s. A future generation of naturalists is being invited to find out how such documentaries are made and youngsters in Bristol have priority over the rest of the UK.

A one-off event called Untamed Media is taking place in Bristol later this month. It is aimed at 16 to 25-year-olds considering a career in the media industry or looking to land their first job making wildlife documentaries. A packed day of workshops, masterclasses and talks will reveal just what it takes to film in remote locations - and the skills needed to navigate the media jungle. The day will run from 10am to 3pm on Monday, October 21, at The Station, on Silver Street, Bristol. There are 150 spaces available at Untamed Media, tickets are completely free and can be applied for here. Participants will be able to: Chat to some of the best wildlife documentary makers in the business Join workshops on making content that really roars Hear from those making their first steps into the industry Get a check-up at the CV clinic run by the BBC Academy team Play with the BBC’s latest VR technology Anyone interested can register for tickets until 10pm on Friday, 11th October. Tickets will be allocated randomly after the closing date, with 70 per cent going to Bristol postcodes and 30 per cent to the rest of the UK. SHOULD YOUR APPLICATION BE SUCCESSFUL, PLEASE SEE THE ATTENDANCE OFFICER IN ROOM B24 TO AUTHORISE THE ABSENCE.
