Birmingham – 24 March 2020 What are the Oxford and Cambridge Student Conferences? Designed as Open Days on the road, our conferences bring experienced admissions staff, subject specialists and current students from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge to you and your students at venues around the UK. The events are aimed at Year 12 students (or equivalent) who are studying for their A Levels/IB (or equivalent) and are beginning to consider their options for study beyond sixth form. These full day events provide up to date information about our courses, clearly outline the admissions process and provide students with the opportunity to hear first-hand how our current undergraduate students find life at Oxford and Cambridge. Our aim is for students to leave having explored the breadth of subjects on offer to them, gained a deeper insight into what our courses involve and an understanding of how both universities assess applications. Open Doors Week aims to inspire more people into the construction industry by letting them go ‘behind the scenes’ to discover the diverse and rewarding range of career paths the industry has to offer, as well as changing people’s perceptions of construction. Discover how the communities you live in are shaped and constructed by an industry with a diverse range of career paths to offer. Solicitor Apprenticeship Level 7 Closing date: 24 Feb 2020 Bristol City Council and Womble Bond Dickinson You'll be employed either by WBD or BCC and throughout your apprenticeship you will study first for Law Degree and then to qualify as a Solicitor whilst contributing to our legal work and the city of Bristol. Now how does that sound for starters? We're looking for candidates with good academics at A level (or equivalent) as a minimum and can consider candidates who will receive their A level results in August 2019. Please note these Apprenticeships are not open to those who already have a Law Degree or Graduate Diploma in Law (or LPC/BPTC). Beyond that, we are looking for people with a commitment to Bristol and its surrounding areas who are able to demonstrate a few core skills: team-working, communication, creative and analytical thinking, an ability to build strong and lasting relationships and a drive to succeed. Our apprenticeship scheme has been a fantastic success since launching in our Pension Administration team back in 2018. We initially took on apprentices in our Amersham, Bromsgrove, Cheltenham and Liverpool offices, but have since extended our schemes to now include our Bristol and Leeds offices. ‘Become a Paramedic’ Taster Event Saturday, 28 March 2020 at UWE This event is designed for college and A-Level students who are considering a career in the Ambulance Service. It provides an action-packed and interactive day where you can learn what a good University application looks like, how to do CPR and control haemorrhage, attend interactive discussions with SWASFT Paramedics and witness an exciting demonstration provided by the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). A full lunch, tea and coffee will also be provided. Tickets cost £25 and students are welcome to bring one additional adult free of charge.

PROGRESS REVIEW DAY 3Y2/A2L3 27th January 2.45-8pm Progress Review Day is the ideal opportunity for Parents and Carers to find out more about the options available for their children after they finish college. Subject teachers will be available to review your child's progress and the Careers Team have invited external speakers to deliver talks about university and apprenticeship options to help you to support them with their next steps. BBC Digital Cities will be returning to Bristol in 2020 with a week-long series of events for the creative industries. Starting on Saturday 25 January, there will be a full and varied schedule across the week, offering insights and free digital skills training. Amongst the partners delivering events are BBC Academy with our Digital Skills Day, which includes the chance to find out about podcasting, TikTok, Instagram and filming on your smartphone, BBC Young Reporter, BBC Stem and digital arts and creative conference, Hello Culture Remix, will be making its debut in the city. Boomsatsuma will once again be opening up their doors for an Ask Me Anything event and Bristol Media's How to Get Your Dream Job event will be taking place at the BBC Bristol. See next page for more information on this. There will also be a day of events on Thursday 30 January at Watershed. Called Screen Futures, it will feature Bristol UNESCO City of Film, Into Film, ScreenSkills, Cables & Cameras, TEDxBristol, BBC Writersroom, BFI NETWORK, Calling the Shots and BBC Upload and many more fantastic organisations, and will give you the chance to find out what schemes and opportunities they can offer. Also, recent arrivals to the city - Channel 4 - will be talking about their latest apprenticeships and trainee schemes. Not to be missed out, tech and digital creators will be able to attend UWE’s Global Game Jam and Bristol City Council’s Hackathon over the two weekends, both returning after successful events last year. 'Ask Me Anything' is a networking event offering 14-18 year olds unique career insights from the creative industries, It is hosted by boomsatsuma and Bristol WORKS as part of Bristol's BBC Digital Cities Week 2020. Set up as a speed networking event, young people will meet a range of creatives in professional roles, each offering unique insights into their fields as well as the opportunity to ask them any burning questions. With representatives from games, music, film, TV production and more, the event will give budding young creatives the chance to learn the skills they need to access similar careers, whilst also building a network of contacts. The National Access Summer School is an immersive four day residential that gives students an insight into the full university experience, including taster lectures from a range of academic subjects, living in accommodation and new social experiences.

CreatorsXX - Summer School 2020 Will you take part in the next generation of creative innovation? Engineering is far more than building and fixing things – and we want to prove it. University of Oxford Access Scheme ‘UNIQ’ Applications open 2nd December and close 27th January UNIQ is open to students studying in their first year of further education, who are based at UK state schools/colleges. Students make a single application between December and January and can be selected to participate in one of two activities: UNIQ Digital or UNIQ Spring and Summer. UNIQ Spring and Summer gives you a taste of the Oxford undergraduate student experience. You will live in an Oxford college for a week, attend lectures and seminars in your chosen subject area, and receive expert advice on the Oxford application and interview process. The timetable also allows plenty of time for social activities; in the evenings you are free to tour the city, sample some of the University's sports and cultural facilities, and let your hair down at the farewell party. UNIQ Digital provides comprehensive information and guidance on the university admissions process, and aims to give you a realistic view of Oxford student life through videos, activities and quizzes. The platform offers a range of forums where you can discuss both academic and social topics. These forums are monitored by student ambassadors, who are always on hand to answer questions and offer support.

University of Bristol - International Affairs Society FREE EVENTS We are the university’s leading forum for debate and discussion of key international, political and economic issues. We host speaker-driven events focused on a broad range of pressing issues in current affairs, whether it be Brexit, inter-generational inequality, or race relations. Nuffield Research Placements Programme Applications Now Open !! Online student applications for the Nuffield Research Placements programme 2019-20 are now open, and will close on Friday 31st January 2020. Nuffield Research Placements have been running UK wide for over 20 years. They are for year 12 STEM students who meet the GCSE and bursary or first in family criteria, offering them the opportunity of a 4 week long research based work placement in the summer holidays of 2020. Suitable students will be studying at least one STEM course, including Maths, Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Geography, Geology and Economics. Successful students work alongside a professional researcher in a university, industry or government agency and are supported to carry out their own research project, write a scientific report and design a research poster, which they present at a mini conference in the autumn. All students are supported by the Nuffield Foundation with daily travel costs to and from placement. In addition eligible students will receive bursary payments of ÂŁ100 per week while on placement. Most placements are desk based, with a few being lab or field based. Please note that we do not offer clinically based placements. You will gain skills useful for university applications, such as research, academic writing and data handling, as well as the softer work based skills such as independence, teamwork and organisation. University of Bristol - Biology Work Experience Research Placement Week 2020 Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May 2020 Monday 6th - Friday 10th July 2020 Are you interested in a potential career in Biology? If so, the University of Bristol have the chance for you to be involved in some REAL scientific research and gain valuable experience. Spend a week extracting, purifying and amplifying the DNA of nematodes to help us find out which species are present in our ecosystems and what this means for agriculture and life on earth. Expect to work with real scientists and researchers, using the University’s state of the art equipment to learn more about the natural world. You will also get to meet and work with other pupils interested in the same ideas. Training and teaching are provided but there is an authentic independent ethos and students will complete all of the work themselves and have to travel to the university each day. PAID WORK EXPERIENCE WITH PWC (Year 12 students) What is on offer?  5 days of paid work experience for students in year 12, running in August 2020 at the PwC Bristol office by Temple Meads. 

Students can apply to a Business Insight Week, an Accounting Insight Week or a Digital Insight Week— the application deadline for all Weeks is 14th February 2020. The Business Insight Week is just for students from Social Mobility backgrounds and coaching will be available to help students through the application process. As part of the Business Insight Week, students will participate in a range of workshops and shadow staff in different teams. The Accounting & Digital weeks are for students who are interested in studying Accountancy or Computer Science at university. Students will need to be on track for CCC or above at A-level / DD at BTEC / equivalent.

Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute – for Year 13 The Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI) is a unique opportunity for Year 13 (ages 17-18) students to spend a month working as part of a research team alongside leading scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science. As well as getting the chance to conduct real scientific experiments, students produce reports and present their findings to their peers before spending a week in a field school where you experience the diverse ecosystems, wildlife, and archaeology of the region.
