WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY at Thales Alenia Space in the UK We are looking for a group of 5 students to join us for our work experience week 6th of 10th of July 2020. We are looking for students in year 10 to 12. They will be working together on a group project, designing a series of outreach activities based on Mars missions that the company is involved with. The students do not need to be engineering or science focused, there is a full range of jobs available in the space industry!

Screenskills: Widening the Lens - Skills Development delivered by Encounters Film Festival For the fourth year, Encounters Film Festival has developed a mentorship programme with Screenskills to address gaps in the film industry. This year, entry level mentees will be matched with mentors from the industry with the relevant experience to help develop their paths into their chosen sector. This programme is suitable for individuals at the early stages of their careers, as well as people looking to kick-start their career. Applications from individuals from BAME, low-economic and underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged. Applicants must be based in the UK.

University of Bristol - The African & Caribbean Society and BME in STEM Society Presents.....

The Destinations Conference 27th February 2020 When it comes to higher education and future career prospects BAME students are often under-represented, left out of the ‘in-know’ crowd. This is often due to a lack of access and opportunity. There are a million reasons people decide to get a higher degree qualification and seek careers in certain areas. The aim of the Destination’s Conference initiative is to inform young BAME sixth form students in Bristol local areas, about the limitless opportunities open to them from pursuing higher qualification degrees. We aim for the conference to enlighten and inspire BAME students of their next steps in terms of Higher Education and Career Pathways, by sitting in on workshops and sessions from different subject specialists as well as a student panel.

The Destinations Conference aims to improve the higher education and future career prospects of local BAME students. Run by two student societies – Being BME in STEM and The Afro Caribbean Society – this conference offers academic workshops and student-led panels that aim to enlighten and inspire BAME students of their next steps in terms of Higher Education and Career Pathways. The day will be supported by WP staff – we can provide a Risk Assessment if required.

The event takes place on the 27th of February and includes a free lunch.

BRISTOL BEARS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION LAUNCH POST-16 EDUCATION ACADEMY Bristol Bears Community Foundation will host an Open Afternoon and an Information Evening on its brand-new Post-16 Education Academy, which opens its doors in September. The Open Afternoon will be hosted at Clifton RFC on Thursday, February 20th from 3pm-5pm and will show prospective students a range of the practical rugby-based activities. There will also be an information evening on Wednesday, February 26th from 6pm-8pm with Bristol Bears Community Foundation staff presenting the education academy to prospective students and their parents/carers

Work Experience Opportunity! Thrings is a vibrant expanding law firm with a diverse client base offering excellent career prospects to talented and driven individuals. We operate in offices in Bristol, Bath, London, Swindon and Romsey, serving clients within the UK, but increasingly with an international presence. We offer a limited number of work experience placements for 16 - 18 year olds annually at a maximum of one week per student. We offer placements based on an application basis and all applications must be submitted through our recruitment portal. Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications from persons under the age of 16. As part of your placement you will spend time shadowing our partners, solicitors and business support teams. You will have the opportunity to gain an insight into how a law firm works and offered careers advice. Online student applications for the Nuffield Research Placements programme 2019-20 are now open, and will close on Saturday 29th February Nuffield Research Placements have been running UK wide for over 20 years. They are for year 12 STEM students who meet the GCSE and bursary or first in family criteria, offering them the opportunity of a 4 week long research based work placement in the summer holidays of 2020. Suitable students will be studying at least one STEM course, including Maths, Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Geography, Geology and Economics. Successful students work alongside a professional researcher in a university, industry or government agency and are supported to carry out their own research project, write a scientific report and design a research poster, which they present at a mini conference in the autumn. All students are supported by the Nuffield Foundation with daily travel costs to and from placement. In addition eligible students will receive bursary payments of ÂŁ100 per week while on placement. Most placements are desk based, with a few being lab or field based. Please note that we do not offer clinically based placements. You will gain skills useful for university applications, such as research, academic writing and data handling, as well as the softer work based skills such as independence, teamwork and organisation. ‘Become a Paramedic’ Taster Event Saturday, 28 March 2020 at UWE This event is designed for college and A-Level students who are considering a career in the Ambulance Service. It provides an action-packed and interactive day where you can learn what a good University application looks like, how to do CPR and control haemorrhage, attend interactive discussions with SWASFT Paramedics and witness an exciting demonstration provided by the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). Never Such an Innocence Competition 19/20 “Impact of Conflict on Communities” At Never Such Innocence we aim to give children and young people across the world a voice on war and conflict. We offer opportunities to reflect on conflict throughout history and today through poetry, art, song and speeches. For the 2019/20 academic year, the Never Such Innocence competition will be bigger than ever! We have expanded our focus to include all conflicts throughout history and today, and have broadened the age range to 9-18. We are also delighted to open a new speechwriting category! This year’s theme is ‘The Impact of Conflict on Communities’ – We invite young people all across the world to write a poem, speech, or song, or create a piece of art reflecting on how a conflict has or is affecting a community. National Apprenticeship Week 3rd-9th February! University isn't the only option for you when you leave school/college. An apprenticeship could be the best way to gain experience and qualifications, all while earning a wage. Higher and degree apprenticeships give you the chance to gain a bachelor's or even a master's degree - and your employer will pay the tuition fees.

An apprenticeship is a job with training - which means you'll get paid and work towards relevant qualifications as well. It can be a fast-track route into your chosen career - no tuition fees, no waiting around before you start work: just training in a paid job from day 1. If you have some idea of what you want to do in your career, you should see if there's an apprenticeship available in that career path. Apprenticeships aren't better for everyone. If you want to study an academic subject like English or history, there won't be an apprenticeship for you. Similarly, if you're drawn to the more scholarly aspects of your subject, university may be a better choice. Level 3 Apprentice Technician - to join us on our award-winning programme in Bristol, starting in Summer/Autumn 2020. As an Apprentice at Stantec, you will be part of an industry leading programme designed to develop the best Engineers. We will pair you with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor you through the initial phase of your career. You’ll be involved in the design and delivery of some of our projects from start to finish. We will teach you how to use programs such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) to produce drawings for building and infrastructure projects. You will learn technical skills such as civil engineering calculations and report writing. No previous experience is required. The 'A Day In The Life' scheme is an exciting student shadowing programme which brings individuals or small school groups onto campus to gain an insight into life at the University of Exeter by shadowing an undergraduate student for the day. The National Access Summer School is an immersive four day residential that gives students an insight into the full university experience, including taster lectures from a range of academic subjects, living in accommodation and new social experiences.

This programme is only available to students who live outside the Greater West Midlands region and are currently in Year 12. The next programme begins with a week long residential at the University from Sunday 23 – Wednesday 26 August 2020.

CreatorsXX - Summer School 2020 Will you take part in the next generation of creative innovation? Engineering is far more than building and fixing things – and we want to prove it. From sustainable development and renewable energy to the smart technologies that are revolutionising our lives in areas like healthcare, transport, education and communication, there's a growing need for females who are creative, ambitious and enjoy solving problems in the modern world. This three-day programme from 3 – 5 August invites young females in years 10, 11 and 12 to come to the University of Bristol to experience all aspects of engineering first-hand. YEAR IN INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES (YINI) Gloucestershire Placements – about the Company The company is one of the largest energy companies in Europe with key business operations in the UK, France, Italy, Belgium and Poland. They are the UK’s leading generator and supplier of low carbon energy, producing around one-fifth of the nation’s electricity and employ more than 15,000 people. They operate nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat & power plants. Role 1 – 026EPSW – Ideally suited to Year 13s applying for a STEM discipline at University. The successful student will be working with the Design Authority, within the safety case team and will be given the opportunity, to learn about the operation of the two Power Stations and the wider Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor fleet. Role 2 – 037EPSW – Ideally suited to Year 13s applying to study Chemistry or Chemical Engineering The successful student will be working within the Chemistry & CO2 Oxidation group and will gain an understanding of the role of chemistry in nuclear power generation. They focus on three highly regulated markets – defence, emergency services and civil nuclear – delivering vital services and managing complex assets in the UK and internationally. PAID WORK-EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY WITH SMART FUTURES Smart Futures is a 1– month programm, which starts with two weeks of paid employability training and work experience at EY’s office in Bristol. This year the Bristol Programme will take place from 3rd-14th August. Students will gain a variety of transferable skills that will give them a head start in their career, whilst also working towards a CMI Level 2 qualification in Team Leading. The programme can make students more employable, helping them in their transition into work.

As part of the programme, young people are allocated a business mentor to support them throughout their final year at school/college and advise them on one of the biggest career choices they will make - the first step in their working life. Students will also be invited to a series of alumni events throughout this time. The programme aims to support young people from low income families who have a good level of academic attainment but may lack genuine opportunity and key employability skills. Below is the key eligibility criteria for the programme:  Currently in Year 12  Eligible (not necessarily claiming) free school meals at any time in the last two years OR Eligible for College Bursary  Studying any combination of A-level/International Baccalaureate/BTEC Level 3s/National 5/ Highers  Ambitious and motivated to join the world of work 

STEP into Justice The STEP into Justice Work experience scheme is a temporary work placement offered within all MOJ business areas, whereby students aged 14-24 will work for a day or up to 2 weeks on junior-level tasks to gain experience and insight into the industry What are the benefits? What is the eligibility criteria for students?  All students must satisfy the requirements for a STEP into Justice work experience placement and:  Be in full time education  Be aged between 14 –24 years old  Attend or previously attended a state-funded, non-fee-paying school with more than 20% eligibility for free school meals – or be in receipt of free school meals  Live within a reasonable commuting distance to an MoJ office How do I apply for a placement? School & College students will need a teacher/tutor to complete the following Application Form on their behalf. Come and visit us in Careers if you would like help with this. The Schools Programme Pathway Team will then register your interest, and be in touch should they find a suitable placement. When do placements take place? All parties will agree on suitable dates appropriate for both the business, Placement Supervisor and student. Placements can be at any time throughout the year. What will happen next? Once your application is received the Schools Programme Pathway Team will register your interest, if a suitable vacancy arises to facilitate your placement request we will contact you. University of Bristol - Biology Work Experience Research Placement Week 2020 Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May 2020 Monday 6th - Friday 10th July 2020 Are you interested in a potential career in Biology? If so, the University of Bristol have the chance for you to be involved in some REAL scientific research and gain valuable experience. Spend a week extracting, purifying and amplifying the DNA of nematodes to help us find out which species are present in our ecosystems and what this means for agriculture and life on earth. Expect to work with real scientists and researchers, using the University’s state of the art equipment to learn more about the natural world. You will also get to meet and work with other pupils interested in the same ideas. Training and teaching are provided but there is an authentic independent ethos and students will complete all of the work themselves and have to travel to the university each day. PAID WORK EXPERIENCE WITH PWC (Year 12 students) What is on offer?  5 days of paid work experience for students in year 12, running in August 2020 at the PwC Bristol office by Temple Meads. 

Students can apply to a Business Insight Week, an Accounting Insight Week or a Digital Insight Week— the application deadline for all Weeks is 14th February 2020. The Business Insight Week is just for students from Social Mobility backgrounds and coaching will be available to help students through the application process. As part of the Business Insight Week, students will participate in a range of workshops and shadow staff in different teams. The Accounting & Digital weeks are for students who are interested in studying Accountancy or Computer Science at university. Students will need to be on track for CCC or above at A-level / DD at BTEC / equivalent.

Volunteering Opportunity!! Aerospace Bristol (Unpaid) ‘Visitor Services Volunteer’ Are you a student who is required to undertake volunteering as part of your studies? Are you looking to work as part of a team providing excellent customer service? Are you passionate about museums, aviation or the tourism industry? If so we can offer you the opportunity to volunteer with us for one day a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. We have flexible shift options so you are able to fit your volunteering around your studies, and of course if you want to stay for longer than 12 weeks that’s fine too Aerospace Bristol museum opened in 2017 and is home to the last Concorde ever built and the last to fly when it returned to its birthplace in 2003. Our vision is an aerospace museum, which inspires, entertains and informs through the understanding of, and engagement with, the stories and collections of Bristol’s aerospace industry – past, present and future. If you have a passion for planes, are enthusiastic about education, are mad for museums or are hoping to gain experience for employment then we want to hear from you.

YINI is for post A-Level/Higher/Advanced Higher or equivalent school leavers and Undergraduate students who are looking for work placements within technology, science, engineering, business and finance. Students can apply to the programme, post A levels/ Highers/ Advanced Highers or equivalents for a year’s work experience prior to going to university or as a year to help decide on the future direction of their career - be that Higher Apprenticeship, University or work, or during their degree course itself. How it works  Student submits application to YINI via web site. 

Student interviewed by EDT prior to full acceptance on the scheme.

Companies approach us outlining the kinds of roles they have / students they are looking for.

EDT Placements team will search the registered students’ database to find suitable matches for companies and forward relevant CV’s to the company. In some cases we will contact universities / schools for specific candidates.

The Company will identify which students they would like to interview and when.

The EDT will deal with the administration arrangements informing the student.

The company will interview the student and decide whether they want to offer a placement to the student. If they do the EDT will relay the offer to the Student.
