Aspiring Professionals Programme Students at St. Brendan’s Sixth Form College can apply for one of our 5 APP Residentials: -Accountancy with KPMG -Banking and Finance with J.P Morgan -Medicine with the NHS -Law with Linklaters, Clifford Chance and Herbert Smith -Engineering with CH2M On the residential, students spend 1-2 weeks in London working at a top firm. On the Residentials in London, students stay in student accommodation in the centre of the city and go to work each day. Students will also take part in skill sessions to help them improve their networking and employability skills, as well as a personal statement workshop.
In order to apply students must meet our eligibility criteria: -Be in Year 12 -5 A grades at GCSE (6 A grades in all sciences and maths for APP Medicine Residential) or 4 grades (5 A grades with As in all the sciences and maths for APP Medicine Residential) if they attended a school with 50% or less GCSE pass rate -Have at least a B grade at GCSE Maths for APP KPMG Residential -Be predicted ABB at A Level/ AAB for APP J.P. Morgan Residential -Personally eligible for Free School Meals (household income below ÂŁ16,190) during secondary schooling OR be the first generation in their family to attend university in the UK AND either attend, or previously attended for GCSE, a school with 20% or more students known to be eligible for Free School Meals.

BBC Digital Cities 2017—The Engine Shed Digital Bristol Week returns with a brand new series of inspirational talks and free events across the city. The focus of the event is on digital journalism and STEM careers, with workshops around Artificial Intelligence, making content for social media and coding. We’ll divide up the schools so each does two workshops. The event is free and we will provide refreshments throughout the day, however please bring packed lunches. Right4me Languages & Cultures: Studying Languages & Cultures For A Degree With The University Of Sheffield, The University Of Reading, And King’s College London October 18 @ 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm
During the Languages webinar three universities (the University of Sheffield, The University of Reading and King's College London) will each talk to your students for 20 minutes to convey the requirements, format and strengths of their Languages degree courses, highlighting areas that differentiate their courses from others and drawing on student experience and progression.
This will be a dynamic, fast paced event with the universities 'visiting' each of the virtual rooms and speaking directly to the pupils within your school. In order to speak to each of the universities the entire session will be around an hour in duration and the session is completely free of charge to all participating schools.
Places must be booked for students by teachers, so if you feel this would be beneficial for your students, find more information here.

Apprenticeship Opportunity at the Royal United Hospital NHSFT
Here at the Royal United Hospitals NHSFT, we have an apprentice vacancy currently being advertised in our quality improvement centre – it’s a level 2 in customer services and would suit someone with an interest in customer services and business admin, or as a first step towards a career in health & social care. The manager is very supportive and would welcome applications from young people aged 16-18 and beyond. It’s a great starting point towards a career within the NHS.
You will be employed on a 1 year fixed term training contract and work 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. In return, you will receive 27 days leave, plus bank holidays. You will have access to the NHS pension scheme and will be supported to achieve your level 2 apprenticeship in Customer Service, with paid time for study and development. The apprenticeship scheme is run in partnership with Haddon Training and is delivered in the work place. You will attend a planned induction and additional training events, and be given time to complete your studies.
This is an ideal first step for someone looking to start a career within the NHS. No previous office experience is needed, but you’ll need an interest in working for the NHS in the future. Technical Operations Apprentice Icon Films is an independent production company with a range of in-house filming and edit facilities. The Technical Operations apprentice will assist with day to day support tasks and projects relating to the IT infrastructure, edit suites, shared storage and archive. The role is based in our hub and includes working in a large walk-in chilled environment. So, you need to be happy to work in cold conditions and be up on your feet for the whole day. It’s active! Access to Birmingham The Access to Birmingham (A2B) scheme is designed to help students from families and communities in the West Midlands who have little or no experience of Higher Education find out about what studying at university involves. A successful A2B applicant will receive two offers from the University of Birmingham, the standard one and an alternative A2B offer. The A2B offer is typically a reduction of up to two A level grades (eg BBB rather than AAB) or 40 UCAS tariff points. If you pass the A2B module and get the grades needed for your A2B offer or above you will receive a bursary of ÂŁ1,000 in your first year of study. There is also an A2B scholarship in addition to this (see below) if you pass A2B and achieve the standard entry grades for your course.

On Track to Bath is a free, two-year programme for A Level students aiming to study at the University of Bath or another leading university. The programme gives you the opportunity to work with university staff and students to explore subjects you are interested in as well as finding out how to make a competitive application to university. The programme is divided into five tracks; Business and Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Languages, Science and Social Science. What is PS Bath? A Free local drop in surgery for students to bring a draft personal statement to university staff for guidance. Who is offering PS Bath? Specialist admissions and outreach staff from University of Bath will offer one to one guidance to students. Bath student ambassadors will also be there as stewards and will be happy to talk about student life. At the September sessions there is also a CareerPilot staff to help students access http://www.careerpilot.org.uk/ to support you in making your post 16 choices. All guidance is impartial and we will help all students applying to HE wherever they apply. What about early applicants? Early deadline students, and other early applicants are encouraged to attend the first two September PS Bath sessions at the new Virgil Building in Manvers Street. Which session should students attend? All students are welcome to attend the Central Bath sessions. But if you are not based in Bath there may also be a more convenient location near you. Early applicant would particularly benefit from attending the Virgil Building sessions,. The final Bath City College session on 30th November is again open to all but will be helpful for Access to HE students.

Adventure Guide Internships with Pure Exploration We are looking for a limited number of students to join us for our Adventure Guide Internship based in Queenstown commencing April 2018 Participants will embark on a remarkable 12 week journey of learning, experiences and coaching - in the classroom and predominantly in NZ's diverse and spectacular outdoors, focusing on individual skills and group leadership. They will gain world-recognised New Zealand outdoor guiding qualifications, and on completion will be placed in some incredible front-line adventure tourism roles based in Queenstown - working for companies involved with jetboating, climbing, hiking, bungee jumping and much more.
This program is a well-constructed stepping stone into the adventure tourism industry as a guide, but also is the perfect GAP year option - offering qualifications and adventure all in one - perfect for the student who has not quite decided what is the next step. Do you want to develop your outdoor and adventure skills? Do you want to take the first step to joining the adventure tourism industry? Or simply want a year off study doing something constructive with their life? We can help! WHY PURE EXPLORATION? We know that starting to travel is a big step, so our programs are developed to be allinclusive - travel, activities, accommodation and meals are all provided so our interns can simply arrive and know that all the complicated stuff is covered and they can focus on having fun! Our aim is to help young people develop all the skills necessary to attack their goals in life and have confidence to move forward into their next level of education or employment .
