UCAS Guidance Important Deadlines and Information from the great guides on UCAS

15 January 2018, 18:00 (UK time) – for the majority of courses. Some art and design courses have a 24 March deadline, so you can add these later; but don’t forget you can only have five choices in total.

24 March 2018, 18:00 (UK time) – for some art and design courses. Others have a 15 January deadline, so make sure you check the course details to confirm the correct deadline you need to apply by.

All applications received after 30 June are entered into Clearing

Deferred Entry—If you are deferring your application, you must ensure you have met the course requirements and conditions.

Extra choices—Extra is another chance for you to gain a place at university or college, between 25 February and 4 July. If you used all five of your choices on your original application and you’re not holding an offer, you’ll be able to add another choice using Extra.

For 2018 Entry— If you have received all of your offers by Saturday 31 March 2018, you have until Wednesday 2 May 2018 to reply to your offers after you have received them all. If you receive all of your offers by Thursday 3 May 2018 you then have until Thursday 7 June 2018 to reply to all of your offers.

Last date for Extra 2018 entry— Wednesday 4 July 2018

Work Experience opportunity with Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH), we are committed to offering work experience to students at local schools and colleges to support young people into future NHS careers. If you are thinking of a career change towards health, we might be able to help too. Our work experience is accredited to bronze standard by Fair Train against a national framework which recognises employers who offer high quality work experience. If you come to us, you can be sure that we will try to offer you the best possible placement.

Who can apply? If you are looking for work experience in our ward / patient areas (for example shadowing our nurses, doctors or therapists), you need to be in year 12 or above. We do have some work experience placements for younger students in our non-clinical departments such as Admin, Finance, Facilities, IT or HR. You need to be a minimum of year 10 in age to access these placements. You need to be living and / or at school / college in the RUH’s catchment area. This includes Bath, Chippenham, Corsham, Melksham, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Westbury, Frome, Keynsham, Brislington and surrounding villages. If you are not within this catchment, please contact your local hospital in the first instance to see how they can support you.

How do I apply? The online application form is available on NHS jobs. Before you apply, you will need to set up your own NHS jobs account. Follow the instructions on the site for this. Once you are logged in to the NHS jobs site, please copy and paste our reference number below into the pink Keywords or Job Reference box and press Search. COURSES AND EVENTS This week we have employability workshops from WEA on Tuesday and Wednesday (free lunch included). And on Friday WECIL is running their second Banking Online Workshop to improve confidence around using the internet for banking. The PopUp Business School is starting a 3 day course on getting a business off the ground (first tickets are free). Himilo Training is running a Computers for Work (Entry 3) course after its success with Entry 1 and 2. JOBS FAIRS We'll be starting the new year with a jobs fair for Bristol Airport in City Hall (date tbc) and don't forget Blue Monday will be 15th January 2018.

An intensive 10 week festival producers course brought to you by some of the top industry professionals based in Bristol.

Project Overview You will have the chance to quiz festival producers on their current projects, learn about their journeys into the sector and gain top tips on how to bring your ideas to life. Each week you will learn about a new discipline from production management to marketing, set design to selling tickets. There will be an opportunity to apply to work on producing projects at Shambala Festival, Port Eliot Festival and other Bristol Festivals. Other work placements will also become available to you throughout the course.

Course Applicants This course is for 18 – 25 year olds looking to gain experience in outdoor arts. There will be a small deposit required at the beginning of the course. All you need is a creative energy and passion to work in outdoor events. Festivals need new innovative thinking and we are looking for the next generation to support this. No qualifications required. You must be able to attend all course sessions. Smart Futures is a ten month programme, which starts with paid work experience. This year, the Bristol programme will take place during the summer holiday. You will gain a variety of transferable skills that will give you a head start in your career. After the work experience ends a mentor will support you throughout your final year at school and advise you on one of the biggest career choices you’ll make the first step in their working life. You will also be invited to a series of alumni events throughout this time.

Saturday Hub Assistant with Fresh Range

Are you available to work on Saturdays? We’d like to meet with you. Please read on… We have a Saturday Hub Packing Assistant vacancy. The role involves picking and packing orders on our busiest day of the week - Saturday. We pack locally sourced food and drink everything from fish, meats, fruits and veg to breads, wines, beers and store cupboard items ready for dispatch in our fleet of vans to our local customers. The role is based in our hub and includes working in a large walk-in chilled environment. So, you need to be happy to work in cold conditions and be up on your feet for the whole day. It’s active! There will also be a good amount of lifting of boxes and bags so the role would suit someone with a good level of fitness and strength. The current vacancy is for Saturdays from 7am to 5pm each week starting immediately.

Due to the relatively early start please be sure to check the transport options available to you so you can arrive on time for work.

Morgan Stanley Pre-University Insight Programme Morgan Stanley believes capital has the power to create positive change in the world. The biggest and most impactful changes come from people like you. If you come to Morgan Stanley, what will you create? Step In, Step Up is an introductory two-day programme designed for Year 12 and 13 female students. This programme comprises of divisional overviews, case studies, panel sessions, a trading floor tour and interactive workshops. Participants will also have the opportunity to work as a team, develop their presentation skills and network with employees at all stages of their careers. Bath Bursary For undergraduate students studying any subject full time. This is for up to £3000 per year of study for UK students who have a household income of £22,000 or below. You must also meet one or more of a set of widening participation criteria.

Local Student Start Up Award If a student is eligible for the Bath Bursary and they live locally to Bath they will ALSO be awarded an additional £1,000 in the first instalment of the bursary as a start-up fund for coming to university. The local area covered is huge including all of South Wales, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire .

Bath Gold Scholarship This awards £5,000 per year of study (not including any unpaid placement year and study abroad year) – these are new awards instituted to celebrated the 50th anniversary of the University last year. Associated with this award are compulsory enrichment activities to develop skills in general such as 50 hours of volunteering or fundraising per year, mentoring by alumni, skills training sessions, extra support. The criteria for eligibility are very similar to the Bath Bursary but the awards are discretionary so not everyone will necessarily be awarded one even if eligible.

Students cannot be awarded both the Bath Bursary and the Bath Gold Award, however both are definitely gifts, they do NOT need to be repaid.

Deadline: January 15th 2018 Access to Birmingham The Access to Birmingham (A2B) scheme is designed to help students from families and communities in the West Midlands who have little or no experience of Higher Education find out about what studying at university involves. A successful A2B applicant will receive two offers from the University of Birmingham, the standard one and an alternative A2B offer. The A2B offer is typically a reduction of up to two A level grades (eg BBB rather than AAB) or 40 UCAS tariff points. If you pass the A2B module and get the grades needed for your A2B offer or above you will receive a bursary of ÂŁ1,000 in your first year of study. There is also an A2B scholarship in addition to this (see below) if you pass A2B and achieve the standard entry grades for your course.

On Track to Bath is a free, two-year programme for A Level students aiming to study at the University of Bath or another leading university. The programme gives you the opportunity to work with university staff and students to explore subjects you are interested in as well as finding out how to make a competitive application to university. The programme is divided into five tracks; Business and Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Languages, Science and Social Science. Adventure Guide Internships with Pure Exploration We are looking for a limited number of students to join us for our Adventure Guide Internship based in Queenstown commencing April 2018 Participants will embark on a remarkable 12 week journey of learning, experiences and coaching - in the classroom and predominantly in NZ's diverse and spectacular outdoors, focusing on individual skills and group leadership. They will gain world-recognised New Zealand outdoor guiding qualifications, and on completion will be placed in some incredible front-line adventure tourism roles based in Queenstown - working for companies involved with jetboating, climbing, hiking, bungee jumping and much more.

This program is a well-constructed stepping stone into the adventure tourism industry as a guide, but also is the perfect GAP year option - offering qualifications and adventure all in one - perfect for the student who has not quite decided what is the next step. Do you want to develop your outdoor and adventure skills? Do you want to take the first step to joining the adventure tourism industry? Or simply want a year off study doing something constructive with their life? We can help! WHY PURE EXPLORATION? Volunteer Opportunities for Young People interested in Creative Projects Creative Youth Network are looking for young volunteers aged 16 - 25 to work at a day festival of live performance, art and music at The Station, BS1 2AG on 1st and 2nd December.

We are looking for young people that are interested in the following volunteer roles: Front of House Stewards Showing the audience to their seats Box Office Volunteers Meeting and greeting the audience and taking their tickets

Dates and times: Fri 1st Dec - Volunteer briefing 5.30pm Fri 1st Dec - One shift from 6pm-9pm Sat 2nd Dec - Shifts available between 11.15am-7.45pm

No experience is required, but an interest in being involved in a creative production and an enthusiasm to get involved are vital. Each role will provide you with a fun experience to work on a show, whilst gaining skills and developing your CV.

We announce our Spring Term programmes are now available for booking online. Following multiple requests for us to expand outside London, we are pleased to say that three of our programmes - the Young Investment Banker, Young Lawyer, and Young Doctor programmes - will now be held in both Manchester and London. Our programmes provide 15-18 year-olds with live and interactive professional experiences in some of the UK's most sought-after industries. We have already had a flurry of bookings for next term's programmes: The Young Doctor Programme: London - Sunday 18th February 2018 Manchester - Sunday 25th February 2018 The Young Engineer Programme: London - Sunday 25th March 2018 The Young Investment Banker Programme: London - Sunday 25th February 2018 Manchester - Sunday 18th March 2018 The Young Lawyer Programme: London - Sunday 25th March 2018 Manchester - Sunday 11th March 2018



Aspiring Professionals Programme Students at St. Brendan’s Sixth Form College can apply for one of our 5 APP Residentials: -Accountancy with KPMG -Banking and Finance with J.P Morgan -Medicine with the NHS -Law with Linklaters, Clifford Chance and Herbert Smith -Engineering with CH2M On the residential, students spend 1-2 weeks in London working at a top firm. On the Residentials in London, students stay in student accommodation in the centre of the city and go to work each day. Students will also take part in skill sessions to help them improve their networking and employability skills, as well as a personal statement workshop.

In order to apply students must meet our eligibility criteria: -Be in Year 12 -5 A grades at GCSE (6 A grades in all sciences and maths for APP Medicine Residential) or 4 grades (5 A grades with As in all the sciences and maths for APP Medicine Residential) if they attended a school with 50% or less GCSE pass rate -Have at least a B grade at GCSE Maths for APP KPMG Residential -Be predicted ABB at A Level/ AAB for APP J.P. Morgan Residential -Personally eligible for Free School Meals (household income below ÂŁ16,190) during secondary schooling OR be the first generation in their family to attend university in the UK AND either attend, or previously attended for GCSE, a school with 20% or more students known to be eligible for Free School Meals.
