An Art Society talk by Lynne Gibson on Women Artists: Modern Mistresses will take place at The Arc Theatre, Wiltshire College Trowbridge Campus on Thursday 25th January -1.15 - 2.15pm This event is aimed at Year 12 and 13 Art and Design students - there is no charge for this event. To book contact: marketing@wiltshire.ac.uk Trowbridge campus are hosting a talk by Lynne Gibson, BEd, MA, entitled Women Artists: ‘Modern Mistresses’ sponsored by the Art Society - aimed at introducing older students in local schools and colleges to their accredited lecture programme. The subject of Lynne’s talk is why, despite the huge collection of work by female artists held by art galleries and museums, very little is displayed. Lynne Gibson is a highly experienced lecturer in the History of Art, Critical and Contextual Studies, as well as in practical Drawing, Painting and Printmaking. She has held posts at the University of Sussex and the University of Bristol, where she introduced 'Understanding Art' to the Lifelong Learning programme. She gives talks, lectures, courses and guided tours for a wide range of organisations including ARCA colleges, Art Galleries and Museums, Art societies and clubs, the National Trust and The Arts Society.
We have an exciting opportunity for sixth formers to get involved in the running of one of the largest businesses in our region. This is the first year of Bristol Water’s Youth Board which brings the views of young adults into the decision-making they do to plan their future operations. We’re recruiting 20 individuals who live in the Bristol Water region to join the board, which will allow their voices to be heard at executive level and provide a unique opportunity for them to kick-start a career in the world of business. How will your sixth formers benefit? They will have real influence on the decisions made by senior management as well as: see inside the workings of a major business meet other like-minded sixth formers from around the region get a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship applications get a £100 reward for taking part. What’s involved? The Youth Board will attend board meetings on two occasions, Monday 29th January 2018 and Monday 19th March 2018, at Bristol Water’s headquarters in Bristol. The meetings will start at 10am so applicants need to be able to get to Bristol for this time. We will reimburse individuals for all travel expenses to board meetings. The meetings will finish at approximately 4pm and will include a mix of briefings from senior executives about the business and the challenges it faces, and facilitated problem-solving exercises. The Youth Board will be given real issues to think about and will work in teams to come up with solutions. Between the two board meetings, members will prepare for team presentations at the second meeting, and also complete a number of online tasks. Need to know more? We have recently launched Business Insight Week 2018 with opportunities across our Cardiff and Bristol offices.
The programme has been highly popular in past years, attracting a wide variety of students from different backgrounds, having been promoted across a range of local target schools including schools that meet social mobility criteria. This August we are planning on taking 20 Year 12 (Lower 6th) students into our offices, inviting them to spend a week getting to know us across all LoS. Off the back of last year’s programme we were able to make several School & College Leaver offers in Bristol and National offices, as well as many of the students opting to apply for our PwC sponsored Flying Start Degrees or choosing to study further and join on our 1st year undergraduate programmes.

A new online jobs board to help local people find roles in adult care has been launched by Bristol City Council as part of its Proud to Care campaign. Dozens jobs are already available to apply for on the website, with new ones added every week by employers, partners and voluntary organisations who have signed up to the Proud to Care Bristol Charter .The website also features careers advice and case studies of others already working in the sector, providing a one stop shop for both recruiters and jobseekers. The jobs board marks the next phase of the Proud to Care campaign, which is designed to raise the profile of care workers and recruit the right people to the sector.

Trip to Auschwitz with The Holocaust Educational Trust The Holocaust Educational Trust offer two places per college to go on a trip to the concentration camp at Auschwitz. This involves an orientation seminar; a day trip from early morning to late at night flying to Krakow and going to Auschwitz; and then a debriefing session; with an opportunity to share your learning with the rest of your college community. It is very well and sensitively managed and students derive a great deal from the trip.
This is open to all students. The place is subsidised, so that your only expense is to get to the two seminars and to and from Birmingham Airport.

Smart Futures is a ten month programme, which starts with paid work experience. This year, the Bristol programme will take place during the summer holiday. You will gain a variety of transferable skills that will give you a head start in your career. The programme can boost employability, helping you to get a job after school or go onto higher education.
After the work experience ends a mentor will support you throughout your final year at school and advise you on one of the biggest career choices you’ll make the first step in their working life. You will also be invited to a series of alumni events throughout this time.

We are running Programmes of Study at level 2 and level 3 in sports coaching , equipping the next generation of sports coaches to work in schools, after school clubs etc. With many of our work placements being paid and leading to apprenticeships in nearly all cases , we are looking for more interested young people! Extra choices—Extra is another chance for you to gain a place at university or college, between 25 February and 4 July. If you used all five of your choices on your original application and you’re not holding an offer, you’ll be able to add another choice using Extra.
For 2018 Entry— If you have received all of your offers by Saturday 31 March 2018, you have until Wednesday 2 May 2018 to reply to your offers after you have received them all. If you receive all of your offers by Thursday 3 May 2018 you then have until Thursday 7 June 2018 to reply to all of your offers.

Recent Developments
Bath Bursary For undergraduate students studying any subject full time. This is for up to £3000 per year of study for UK students who have a household income of £22,000 or below. You must also meet one or more of a set of widening participation criteria.
Local Student Start Up Award If a student is eligible for the Bath Bursary and they live locally to Bath they will ALSO be awarded an additional £1,000 in the first instalment of the bursary as a start-up fund for coming to university. The local area covered is huge including all of South Wales, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire .
Bath Gold Scholarship This awards £5,000 per year of study (not including any unpaid placement year and study abroad year) – these are new awards instituted to celebrated the 50th anniversary of the University last year. Associated with this award are compulsory enrichment activities to develop skills in general such as 50 hours of volunteering or fundraising per year, mentoring by alumni, skills training sessions, extra support. The criteria for eligibility are very similar to the Bath Bursary but the awards are discretionary so not everyone will necessarily be awarded one even if eligible.
Students cannot be awarded both the Bath Bursary and the Bath Gold Award, however both are definitely gifts, they do NOT need to be repaid.

On Track to Bath is a free, two-year programme for A Level students aiming to study at the University of Bath or another leading university. The programme gives you the opportunity to work with university staff and students to explore subjects you are interested in as well as finding out how to make a competitive application to university. The programme is divided into five tracks; Business and Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Languages, Science and Social Science. A fantastic way for your Year 12, 13 and Level 3 students to experience their course or profession for the day. Through a variety of interactive workshops, classroom discussions, laboratory sessions and lectures students can learn more about studying and applying for their chosen subject.

The application deadlines for our J.P. Morgan Residential Programme and the KPMG Residential Programme have been extended until 5pm, Friday 19th January 2018.
J.P. Morgan Residential Programme: This two week residential is for students interested in Banking. Even if students do not have any prior experience in regards of this sector but think that a career at an investment company might be of interest for them, we welcome their applications. The residential is especially interesting for students who enjoy studying Maths, Business, Economics, and Languages. J.P. Morgan also offers a number of Law residential places. KMPG Residential Programme: KMPG is hosting SMF students with an interest in Accountancy for a one week residential.

In order to apply students must meet our eligibility criteria: Be in Year 12 5 A grades at GCSE, or 4 grades if they attended a school with 50% or less GCSE pass rate Be predicted ABB at A Level Personally eligible for Free School Meals (household income below £16,190) during secondary schooling OR be the first generation in their family to attend university in the UK AND either attend, or previously attended for GCSE, a school with 20% or more students known to be eligible for Free School Meals. Students will also receive additional pillars of support from the Social Mobility Foundation, in the form of employability skills and university application support.
