BEAUTIFUL THING BY JONATHAN HARVEY Beautiful Thing Beautiful Thing is a play about gay teenage love, about the transition from adolescence to adulthood, boy to man, girl to woman. It deals with themes of sexuality, bullying, homophobia and ultimately love. It’s also a joyful, uplifting play set in the early nineties and filled with a nostalgic soundtrack sung performed by a community choir. REACT: Beautiful Thing is hosted by our Young Producers and will feature a post-show discussion chaired by young people for young people, interrogating the themes of the show. Join us for an evening of theatre and discussion! With invited experts and panellists, we’ll dive into the themes of the play and ask how relevant they are in today’s society. From James Bond to space nuclear batteries to Impact craters, chances are they’ll learn something new. Some of my particular favourites this time around include: · “Seventy years of the Windrush Story”, Geography · “What’s so great about The Catcher in the Rye”, American Studies/English · “International Security: the Nuclear Weapons Debate” Politics and International Relations More Information and how to book How to make the most of the day There’s so much to see and do at our Open Days, we recommend having a plan. We’ve created some handy top tips to guide them through the event. Our amazing student ambassadors will, of course, always be on hand to answer questions, make students feel at home and prove to parents that students do really eat – honest! What’s so good about Leicester? We could tell your students how great Leicester is, but to really give a taste of what’s to come, they’ll need to see it for themselves. Any questions, please visit Open Day FAQ’s. If not, study@le.ac.uk is the place to go.
