Advanced Dental Nursing Taster Friday 7 December This event is designed for students who are considering a career as a dental care professional, and is particularly focused on our DipHE and BSc courses in Advanced Dental Nursing. Students will have the opportunity to take part in hands on practical sessions and experience our first-rate facilities. Please note, due to the entry requirements of the course, BTEC Health and Social Care students are not eligible to apply to our Dental Nursing courses, but are welcome to come along and discuss alternative routes into Dental Nursing. YEAR 12 SUBJECT TASTER DAYS AT OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY At Headington Campus Each day will include: Campus tour; Subject sessions led by academics; Lunch and travel contributions. Students can come along independently by booking through a teacher.
Thursday 10th January – Experience Humanities
Students will be able to have a taster of three of the five following degrees: Communication, Media and Culture; History; Education Studies; Philosophy; and Psychology.
Tuesday 15th January – Experience Health and Life Sciences (Healthcare)
Students will choose from one of two taster streams: 1) Children’s Nursing, Midwifery, and Social Work; 2) Adult Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedic Science. There will also be a session on Applying to Healthcare subjects.
Thursday 17th January – Experience Business
Students will be able to have a taster of degrees such as Business and Management and Accounting and Finance, with part of the day dedicated to the value of placements during a Business degree.

Students will choose from one of two taster streams: 1) Music, covering technical and creative aspects; 2) Film, Digital Media and Art;

Babbasa are hosting a number of sessions next month for young people which involve industry professionals coming in to talk about their experiences and opportunities in a specific sector. The sessions are as follows: 13th November 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: Lettus Grow- Run by start up organisation Lettus Grow. They're all about sustainability and using science to create sustainable technologies. They have created a vertical growing system where they can grow crops in doors without soil. Lettus Group are also offering work placements. This would be great for young people looking to set up their own business as they are a start up. 28th November 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: The Avon and Somerset Police are coming in to talk about the different roles in the police. This includes roles as officers, but also detectives, animal handlers (there may be a dog present (TBC) forensics etc. 11th December 2018, 6.00-7.30PM: Proctor and Stevenson, marketing company, will be talking about marketing and roles for designers and copy writers amongst other things VENUE: Redbrick House, 6 York Court, Wilder Street, near Stokes Croft (just turn up) This is a great opportunity for young people who are interested in these sectors and also for young people who aren’t sure about what they want to do and are looking to find out more.

Admissions Tests Some Universities require students to complete admissions tests. It is imperative that students who are considering applying to competitive courses and in particular medicine research the entrance test deadlines and processes required. Information about these tests is available on the UCAS website and students should contact Alison Rayner our Exams Officer to arrange the tests through college on alison.rayner@stbrn.ac.uk For more information on courses requiring admissions test see https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/admissions-tests

Level 3 students are invited to experience what it's like to be a university student for a day. At our 'Student for a Day' events, you can accompany a current UWE Bristol student to lectures or workshops and find out what the teaching is like. Gloucestershire Philosophical Society Talks Gloucestershire Philosophical Society aims to provide a forum for debate on a wide range of issues, alongside informative lectures. Meetings are open to the academic and wider community and this year we welcome local students who would like to find out what it is like to study a Religion, Philosophy and Ethics degree with us at the University of Gloucestershire. Notification of changes for 2019 entry to Oxford University (applications October 2018) Admissions tests Physics Aptitude test (PAT) Calculators will be permitted. Guidelines about the use of calculators along with details of the syllabus and links to supporting materials which candidates are encouraged to look at for preparation are available on the Physics website. History Aptitude test (HAT) The HAT will consist of one question based on an extract from a primary source, to be answered in one hour. The format of this question will be similar to question 3 of past papers which are available on the History Faculty website. Geography There will be no test this year. Proof of registration: Please note that this year, as proof of registration, we are advising candidates to obtain a candidate entry number from their school/test centre by 6pm on 15 October. Late registration will not be possible. Test dates: Please note the test dates for the next few years. We consider many factors when setting test dates but please be aware that due to variations in the dates of school half-terms, the tests may sometimes fall outside of term time in some regions. If you would like some advice on how to manage tests out of term time please contact us using ox.ac.uk/ask 2018: 31 October (confirmed) 2019: 30 October (confirmed) 2020: 4 November (confirmed) 2021: 3 November (provisional) 2022: 2 November (provisional) Course change New four-year course in Biology From 2019 there will be a new course, called Biology. This will replace the existing course in Biological Sciences. Students can choose to leave after three years and graduate with a BA, or they can continue to a fourth year and graduate with a Master’s Degree in Biology, an MBiol. All students must apply for the four-year MBiol but can opt to leave after three years with a BA. Progression to the MBiol is contingent on satisfactory academic performance in the first three years. This opportunity is completely entry level, therefore young people of 18+ who are passionate and have had no experience or very little experience in the industry are encouraged to apply. The week will not cost you a penny as Channel 4 will cover your travel, accommodation (if you are based outside of London), as well as all food costs for the days you are with Channel 4. VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
At hop, skip and jump we provide flexible and wrap around care for children and young adults with additional needs. Our Bristol centre has a large area to explore with a wide range of areas including a dark sensory room, a white sensory room, soft play / ball pit area, a music room, a games room and an art room. We also have a fully working kitchen and a massive outdoor space equipped with climbing frames, swings, slides for all ages and abilities and a lovely sensory area. We provide a range of different sessions throughout the year which include: Respite sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings), for children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviours. Stay and play sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings) where the service user can come with either their families or carers to use the centre independently. The service user is in full care of their family or carer. After school club sessions: These sessions are currently run on Wednesday and Friday evenings 3:30- 6:00, offering children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviour a safe environment to build social skills and engage in fun activities.
