Legal apprenticeship RPC Paralegal Apprenticeship Scheme in Bristol will help build the foundations of a successful career as a solicitor, with the training and support you’ll need to excel.

The paralegal apprenticeship takes two years to complete by combining a wide mix of on-the-job and off-the-job training, you’ll gain a qualification (level 3) that can lead you to apply for our solicitor apprenticeships (level 7) or other opportunities at RPC, including qualified paralegal and business services roles.

What are the basic requirements? 

Being in year 13 or beyond

Student Shadowing in February 2019 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN The student shadowing scheme offers students the opportunity to ‘shadow’ a current undergraduate student for a day, in the subject that they are considering to progress to higher education in. It’s an exciting opportunity for Year 12 and 13 students to find out more about what it is really like to study at higher education level, compared to their current level of study.

What happens on a shadowing day? Depending on subject choice, the day will typically include going to lectures, seminars and workshops as well as seeing other campus facilities like the library and cafes to go to lunch with our Student Ambassadors.

Funding The University of Plymouth will fund travel to and from Plymouth, typically from your closest train station. Where necessary, we will include overnight accommodation the night before to ensure students get a full day of shadowing. There will also be a complimentary lunch from one of our 9 cafes on campus for students to use during the Shadowing day.

Applications for the Sutton Trust US Programme for Sixth Formers

NOW OPEN What is it? The Sutton Trust US Programme is designed to support high achieving Year 12 students from state schools across the UK to explore US study and access leading universities. It includes two residentials in the UK, before all students spend a week in the US staying on campus at a leading US university and visiting a variety of other American universities. An optional second year of the programme supports students to apply to US universities alongside their UCAS options. How much does it cost for students? The programme is free for students, including travel, food, accommodation, admissions test preparation and more, all costs are covered by The Sutton Trust and its donors. Who are we looking for? To be eligible to apply, students must be: Currently Year 12 (England and Wales), S5 (Scotland), or Year 13 in Northern Ireland. SUBJECT TASTER DAYS

YEAR 12 SUBJECT TASTER DAYS AT OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY At Headington Campus Each day will include: Campus tour; Subject sessions led by academics; Lunch and travel contributions. Students can come along independently by booking through a teacher.

Thursday 10th January – Experience Humanities

Students will be able to have a taster of three of the five following degrees: Communication, Media and Culture; History; Education Studies; Philosophy; and Psychology.

Tuesday 15th January – Experience Health and Life Sciences (Healthcare)

Students will choose from one of two taster streams: 1) Children’s Nursing, Midwifery, and Social Work; 2) Adult Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedic Science. There will also be a session on Applying to Healthcare subjects.

Thursday 17th January – Experience Business

Students will be able to have a taster of degrees such as Business and Management and Accounting and Finance, with part of the day dedicated to the value of placements during a Business degree.

Thursday 24th January – Experience Technology and Design

Students will choose from one of two taster streams: 1) Music, covering technical and creative aspects; 2) Film, Digital Media and Art;

Thursday 31st January – Experience Health and Life Sciences (Biology and Sport) (Marston Road Campus, 9.30AM-3.30PM)

Students will choose from one of two taster streams: 1) Biological Science degrees; 2) Sport degrees.

Volunteering & Work experience



Nuffield Research Placements For Yr 12 STEM students (Summer holiday placement 2019) A fantastic opportunity to work alongside a researcher in either a university or an industry setting. The aim of the scheme is to give students a hands-on experience of research in action, providing them with information about what a career in STEM might be like. What will I be doing? Students will carry out their own mini research project, write up a scientific report and design a poster about their findings which they present at the Celebration Event after the end of the placements. Students are supported to develop the skills needed for these activities (academic writing, communication, independent and team working and the soft skills around work such as time management and organisation) by their project mentor and by the regional Nuffield Research Placements Coordinator and team. When is it? For 4-6 weeks full time over the school/college summer holidays. Exact dates and location will depend on your placement. What’s in it for me? The experience is a great to put on any CV or UCAS form and will make you stand out as a serious contender in any application. How do I apply? School & College Insight Week 2019– Summer Placements in Business and Finance for Year 12 Students Announcing We’re proud to be launching our School & College Insight Week programmes for 2019, a week-long paid summer placements for Year 12 students (first year of A-Levels or equivalent). Aim The aim is to give young people an opportunity to gain access to professional services, develop their employability skills and discover more about their career opportunities with PwC. The Offer In the West & Wales region, we are offering a Business Insight Week in the Bristol office. More details and the application form can be found here. Our Insight Weeks: What do you need to know?  Running in summer 2019, with around 400 places across the UK, each student will be fully supported during the week and will gain an insight into life at PwC  They’ll complete a full induction and spend time with employees to experience first-hand what life at PwC is all about  After the week is complete, successful students will have the opportunity to be fast-tracked to the final stage of the recruitment process for our full-time Apprenticeship programmes

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

At hop, skip and jump we provide flexible and wrap around care for children and young adults with additional needs. Our Bristol centre has a large area to explore with a wide range of areas including a dark sensory room, a white sensory room, soft play / ball pit area, a music room, a games room and an art room. We also have a fully working kitchen and a massive outdoor space equipped with climbing frames, swings, slides for all ages and abilities and a lovely sensory area. We provide a range of different sessions throughout the year which include: Respite sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings), for children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviours. Stay and play sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings) where the service user can come with either their families or carers to use the centre independently. The service user is in full care of their family or carer. After school club sessions: These sessions are currently run on Wednesday and Friday evenings 3:30- 6:00, offering children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviour a safe environment to build social skills and engage in fun activities.
