We have a number of vacancies for Reserve Firefighters to be trained in basic defensive fire fighting. These staff will only be used to provide resilience support during any periods of unforeseen staff shortages. It is important to note that in most cases there is not an ongoing need to use Reserve Firefighters and therefore there will be significant ongoing periods of time when you will not be called upon to work. You will be required to attend an initial three day basic training programme (dates to be confirmed) and will receive ongoing refresher training every year. Training is paid at the standard hourly rate. Applicants must live within the Avon Fire & Rescue Service area or within a 25 mile radius of our boundary. No travel or accommodation expenses will be paid for work shifts. You must possess a driving licence and have access to your own transport. An LGV driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.

SGS Level 3 Production Arts Technical Theatre Showcase 21 March, 12.45-2.00pm SGS College, WISE Campus, New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34 8LP. An excellent opportunity to come and see a technical theatre showcase that includes an installation of ‘The Tempest' and a tour of the set of our production of ‘Mary Poppins’. There will also be opportunities to speak with current students and tutors. Course Information: The technical theatre courses cover a wide range of disciplines and skills required for employment within the performing arts and live events industries. SGS Performing Arts provides the ideal opportunity for students interested in all aspects of technical theatre to apply their skills in a professional setting with over 35 productions each year. The college has amazing resources including ‘Studio 22’ an 80 seat studio theatre equipped with an ETC Nomad digital lighting desk, a 16 channel analogue sound desk and projection mapping facilities. Our main theatre ‘The Olympus’ is a 250 seat theatre with a state of the art ETC Ion digital lighting desk which controls our in house stock of generic lighting and our Mar-tin and Robe automated lights. We have a 32 channel analogue Allen and Heath sound desk as well as a 32 channel Yamaha LS9 digital sound desk, these control our audio features which include radio microphones and a fully equipped band area.

Launch Pad – Level 7 School Leaver Apprenticeship Programme – Summer 2019 Aimed at ambitious school leavers, Launch Pad is our exciting new Level 7 apprenticeship programme that offers a real alternative to going to university. The role will enable students to train to be a chartered accountant within 5 years through the studying of the ICAEW CFAB and ACA qualifications. WRITING WRONGS YEAR 12 PROJECT The School of Humanities is running an exciting writing and research programme for local year 12 students interested in studying an essay-based subject at university.

MODERN LANGUAGES OUTREACH A-Level students studying French, German or Spanish are invited to visit the School of Modern Languages to discuss a film that they are studying with an academic member of staff.

LIFE SCIENCE TASTER DAYS The days are designed to give sixth-form students a taste of undergraduate teaching as well as some laboratory practical experience, with a variety of sessions from each of the five subject areas; Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology & Biological Sciences.

PARTICLE PHYSICS MASTERCLASS Sixth-form students with a keen interest in physics are welcome to join us for our annual Masterclass workshop. Students will interact with our knowledgeable scientists by running computer simulations, designing detectors and testing their general particle physics knowledge

* * *Easter Work Experience Placement Opportunity * * * Are you interested in a career in law and looking to gain an insight into how a national law firm works? We are offering a number of opportunities for keen and enthusiastic individuals to complete a work experience placement in our Bristol office. This is not paid employment, but an opportunity which offers first hand experience into the day-to-day workings of a law firm. This is a great opportunity for those who are currently studying at sixth form or college and are th interested in developing a career in law. The work experience placements will take place for a week between 8 April th 2019 – 18 April 2019. What does the work experience programme offer? You will spend time in several different departments within our Bristol office, shadowing staff in various roles within the business. Some of the typical tasks you may get to experience during the placement are: • Assisting with research into specific areas of law; • Observing legal claims processes to gain an insight into reviewing legal cases; • Helping with the preparation of court bundles; • Listening to calls to clients and solicitors to gain knowledge of legal terms; • Assisting with admin duties across our support departments. For those individuals who perform well during the work placement and receive positive feedback on completion of the programme, there may be the potential to complete a paid internship for six weeks during the summer. Requirements You must be studying at sixth form/college or have just completed your studies and have: • 5 GCSEs grade C or above (or equivalent) including English and Maths; • An interest in law or working within the legal profession; • Good communication skills; • A willingness to learn. th

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

At hop, skip and jump we provide flexible and wrap around care for children and young adults with additional needs. Our Bristol centre has a large area to explore with a wide range of areas including a dark sensory room, a white sensory room, soft play / ball pit area, a music room, a games room and an art room. We also have a fully working kitchen and a massive outdoor space equipped with climbing frames, swings, slides for all ages and abilities and a lovely sensory area. We provide a range of different sessions throughout the year which include: Respite sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings), for children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviours. Stay and play sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings) where the service user can come with either their families or carers to use the centre independently. The service user is in full care of their family or carer. After school club sessions: These sessions are currently run on Wednesday and Friday evenings 3:30- 6:00, offering children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviour a safe environment to build social skills and engage in fun activities.
