Welcome to Careers News ‘New This Week’ Edition Having left our general opportunities in this newsletter for a one week, we have now moved them into the longer version on the St Brendan’s Careers web page. As many education and employment providers are adjusting to the ‘new normal’, we will again be using the ‘New This Week’ booklet for career development items that really are ‘New’ this week.

Careers appointments Careers Appointments are now bookable through MS Bookings. Students have the choice between face to face and Teams appointments for either careers or work experience. This is the link to the booking page Careers Appointments which is also available on the Career Zone Moodle Page Students will also be able to access the link through a QR code (above) on careers posters and on Moodle.

The teams were created so that I, as the WEX Coordinator can share the newest courses and virtual experience opportunities with you in a timely manner. As you probably noticed in the last few days there has been a large amount of information shared on these channels so please have as look at them to find the most suitable experiences for your future aspirations. Please make sure you scroll to the very top of the chat to see all the opportunities. Each announcement will have a selection to see more so please use it to explore for further information. If you think you have found something useful, please give a thumbs up so that our careers team know that we have reached you. Throughout the year there will be polls for you to fill in, in order to identify your areas of interest and to collect feedback, so please be active. BFI FILM ACADEMY BRISTOL Is a great opportunity to get experience, gain skills and start your career in film

As a participant on the Film Academy:  You will get hands-on filmmaking experience, developing practical knowledge and skills working alongside industry professionals  You will be part of a crew of young filmmakers creating a short documentary or drama film  You can develop your own talents and interests in areas such as sound and music, costume and make-up, graphics and animation, cinematography, production. Courses run at Watershed in documentary filmmaking and at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Drama filmmaking December 2020 to April 2021 in term time, one evening per week and some weekends. Aspiring Professional Programme Year 12 Applications are now open for the Social Mobility Foundation’s 2021 Aspiring Professionals Programme. This supports ambitious, high achieving young people from low-income backgrounds to access top universities and professional careers. Goldsmith Taster Days Taster Days are now open for booking and will be happening online throughout November. Burseries at Bristol We have a new programme of scholarships Which will support around 130 Black and mixed-Black heritage students over the next four years. One part of our new programme to support Black heritage students is to provide 20 Black Futures Scholarships. A scholarship comprises of a £2,000 bursary, targeted support from the Careers Service and funding to support employability opportunities. To find out more and apply for a bursary Click here
