Jobs and Apprenticeships Avon and Somerset Police PCDA ROLE INFORMATION The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship route into policing is an exciting opportunity for talented individuals from all backgrounds to obtain a degree whilst working and earning a full salary The PCDA programme is delivered in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and includes classroom delivery, practical application and tutorship. The programme will be split between the University’s Frenchay and Glenside campuses and Police Headquarters in Portishead. You will be classed as a full-time student and so will be able to take advantage of student benefits. Apprentices are not required to contribute towards the cost of their degree but remain in probation for the three year duration of the programme.
Programme hours As a police officer, you will be contracted to work 40 hours per week and both your classroom and on the job training aligns to these working hours. Whilst studying, you are required to attend training at UWE Bristol or Police Headquarters Monday to Friday working either 0800-1600 or 0900-1700 as defined by your timetable upon joining. Whilst in tutorship and working as an operational police officer you will work to a 24/7 shift pattern consisting of two early shifts (0700-1600), two late shifts (1430-2300) and two nights (2200-0700) followed by rest days.
Pay scales Candidates starting on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship will commence on pay point zero of the police constable pay scales, increasing annually on the anniversary of your joining date. Year 1 (pay point 0): £20,880 Year 2 (pay point 1): £24,177 Year 3 (pay point 2): £25,269
Entry qualifications The apprenticeship involves studying at increasing academic levels over the three years, up to degree level. You do not require a degree to join the programme but applicants need to demonstrate this academic attainment level within their apprenticeship. There are two routes into the PCDA programme: Route 1 Applicants will have a minimum of one Level 3 qualification or equivalent. Route 2 Applicants who have relevant experience must have either:
working within the Communications Centre, PCSOs and Detention Officers).

Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) work shifts and are mostly deployed between the hours of 7am and 3am, mainly they work alone. As our apprentice your affinity for mathematics and attention to detail will be a welcome addition to our team at South Gloucestershire Council who are making a real difference to the lives of the people who live, work and learn here. We’ve achieved a great deal, but were ambitious about the future. Join us and be part of something bigger. How you’ll make a difference Our StreetCare Design and Operations Team play a key role in the delivery of frontline highway maintenance, civil engineering and structural engineering schemes throughout South Gloucestershire. As our apprentice you’ll support and contribute towards the physical construction of a wide variety of features including, site clearance, fencing, drainage, earthworks, pavements, kerbing, footways, block paving, traffic signs, road markings and retaining walls. We will allocate you a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support throughout your 2 year apprenticeship and completion of a Level 2 in Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative. What we need from you:
Ideally hold a minimum qualification in GCSE English and Maths at grade D or 3 and above, or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Math’s. If you do not have these you must be willing to undertake and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship. Ability to work in a team Attention to detail Willingness to learn Self-motivated and organised Have good communication skills with ability to provide good customer service

As part of this training route you do need to undertake a basic skills assessment as part of the selection process. These will be emailed to you by the training provider, Telford College, and be completed by the deadline set. The apprenticeship training requires you to attend block release throughout the year and you must be willing to travel to the provider’s location, Telford College, Haybridge Road, Wellington, Telford, Shropshire, TF1 2NP. We will cover your travel and accommodation expenses. When you aren’t at college, the rest of your time will be spent with us learning on the job.

In addition to your workplace mentor, you will also be allocated an assessor by Telford College, to complete reviews. These reviews are simply to make sure you are on track and happy.
You’ll be completing a Level 2 in Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship standard which will provide you with a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours, which you gain by working for us.
This apprenticeship also requires you to complete an end point assessment which will see you demonstrate what you have learned as an apprentice and how it can be applied in any other organisation. This will be another chance for you to shine!
The end point assessment consists of a Knowledge Test and Practical Skills Assessment. Sound scary? Don’t worry, we and your assessor will give you plenty of support and encouragement to ensure you are prepared and confident to complete this stage. We also have plenty of apprentices here that can give you tips and help ease any nerves or concerns, because they have done it themselves!

Who can apply To apply to the Apprenticeship Summer School, you must meet the following criteria:
Attend, and have always attended, a state-funded, non fee-paying school/college.
Be in Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland) at the start of the programme.
In addition, we are looking for students who:
Have achieved at least five GCSEs at grades 9 – 6 (A*-B), including English and Maths. A minimum of two of these qualifications should be at grades 9 – 7. Or five A or B grades at National 5 including one A.
Would be the first generation in their family to gain a degree/degree-level qualification.
Have been eligible for Free School Meals whilst at secondary school.
Live in a neighbourhood with a low rate of progression to higher education or a high level of socio-economic deprivation.
Have attended schools with a lower than average progression to higher education, or a higher than average proportion of students who qualify for Free School Meals.
Have been looked after or in care.
The more criteria you meet, the more likely you are to get a place on the programme.

Our community is there for all to support each other, and this is a great opportunity to seek further advice anonymously and share knowledge! Based on our “Training with the Champions” programme, you’ll learn about Gratitude, Kindness, Action Not Outcome, The Magic of Mini-Goals and other ways to help better manage your mood and mentality. We’ll also cover subjects like cutting-edge workout routines and exercises, nutrition advice, because healthy body=healthy mind! Ask us your questions on social media and we’ll come back to you. THURSDAY 5PM: Live Workout—YouTube Live/Instagram Live Coaches Jamie and Sara will be taking you thourgh their already popular live workout, mixing it up each week. No need to book, just look out for the YouTube Live/Instagram Live links on our social media channels, and get ready for a fun and challenging workout. FRIDAY—All Day: Friday Forum—Twitter Friday Forum is our boxing focused Twitter takeover from our Head of Business Development and #BreakingDownBoxing host Jamie Parry. He’s talked you through boxing technique over the last few weeks, and now’s your chance to have a conversation around anything boxing related. Who is your favourite boxer? What was their best fight? Who would you have loved to see matched up against each other? We’ll be setting you chanllenges throughout the day as well, so make sure your eyes are peeled on our Twitter feed

The Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, known as iDEA, is an international programme that helps you develop and demonstrate your digital enterprise and employability sills for free. iDEA is the digital and enterprise equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Bronze is Beginner level Silver is Intermediate level Gold is Advanced level The iDEA Bronze Award and iDEA Silver Award are available now, and Gold will be released in due course.
These courses are open to learners of any age, and you can reference them in your CV and personal statements. Employers can validate your achievements.
