Camp St. Cecilia is a summer program designed to give

girls ages 4-17 an opportunity to have fun while learning. Campers experience St. Cecilia Academy’s academics, athletics, and fine arts programs while interacting with faculty, students, coaches, alumnae, and parents. The camps offer excellent instruction for girls by experienced instructors. Each girl attending Camp St. Cecilia will be exposed to skills in a variety of areas to further develop her academic and extracurricular interests.

CAMP HOURS: All camps are half-day unless otherwise noted, either from 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Girls attending both sessions may stay all day, bring a lunch and eat in the cafeteria with other campers and Camp St. Cecilia staff members. BEFORE AND AFTER-CARE: Camp St. Cecilia is happy to

offer before and after-care from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. Girls will enjoy a snack, play games, and participate in other activities. Cost is $40 per week for before or after-care, $75 for both. Sign up during camp registration.

Athletic camps also require a signed concussion statement. All registrations will be confirmed via email prior to the start of each camp. Families with more than one camper should register each child separately. The grade level for camps is the grade a child enters in August 2019.

DROP OFF/PICK UP: Drop off and pick up will be in Alumnae Hall at the front entrance of St. Cecilia. Please bring your daughter into Alumnae Hall the first day of camp to verify necessary information before camp begins. Check in will begin at 8:45 a.m. the first day of each camp week for the morning session and 12:45 p.m. for the afternoon session. Campers dropped off before 8:45 a.m. will report to before-care at the $10 per day drop in rate. Campers not picked up by 4:15 p.m. will go to aftercare at the $10 per day drop-in rate. gies. Baking and cooking camps are not allergy-free. Camp staff will provide allergy-free snacks to those who request them.

JUNE 3-4, 9 A.M.-3:15 P.M. Babysitter Boot Camp: Grades 5-8

The American Red Cross will train campers for a successful babysitting business. Topics will include providing care for infants and children, choosing activities, handling emergencies, and recognizing behaviors. Girls will also be trained for first aid, infant and child CPR, and using an AED.

Enjoy all the fun activities found at a sleepaway camp, but we will do them in our mornings during this week! Come join us in a week of celebrations and festivities! Each day, we will be exploring new holiday and how hey're celebrated in other cultures. Activities will include making homemade valentines to deliver to a nursing home, a special witch’s brew, making our own firework art, a Thanksgiving feast, and more. Parents will join us on Friday for a Christmas in June sing-along! Our party planner will be Shelly Gaughan ‘06, a kindergarten teacher at a charter school and recent Milken Educator Award recipient.

We will create mosaics, window art, personalized room decor, jewelry, collages, and more! On Friday, families can come join us for an art show for a chance to see our talent! The craft master for this camp is Lissa Gaughan, a fourth grade teacher at Harpeth Valley Elementary and veteran camp instructor. Transform science into fun with hands-on activities! Prepare demonstrations and participate in experiments on topics such as grossology, rockin’ rockets, radical reactions, and earth awareness. SCA alumna and St. Henry teacher Robyn Biga ’00 will lead the madness of great science.

Do you want to beat the heat? Summer Fun camp wants you! This fun summer camp will be packed full with water balloons,


sprinkler games, water wars, outdoor scavenger hunts, team building activities, and games! So get off those tablets and come get wet, use your imaginations, and make new friends! Wizarding World of SCA: Grades 3-6

Enter the wizarding world of SCA through this Harry Potterthemed camp. Girls will be assigned into houses, then work together on a variety of magical activities, including science magic, wand-making, STEAM challenges and much more. Parents are invited to take a tour of our Hogwarts and cheer on your wizard during the Quidditch match at the end of the week. Our head wizard will be Shelly Gaughan ‘06, a kindergarten teacher at a charter school and recent Milken Educator Award recipient.

Dessert Wars: Grades 5-8

During camp chefs will mix, bake, design, and create while learning to produce one of a kind desserts! Girls will learn the art of making delicious and unique desserts for a competition at the end of the week. Amanda Dragan is a teacher at St. George’s Kindergarten and is excited to teach this camp.

This camp is for the young budding actresses! We will create sets and costumes for a version of The Little Red Hen that includes a few of our own twists and turns. We will give a lively performance for families at the end of the week. This camp will be taught by Joan Coode and Susie Hays, teachers at Westminster School for Young Children. Girls will learn about animals through a visit from the Nashville Zoo, Skyping with the elephant sanctuary and a marine biologist, and will complete animals crafts. The safari guide will be Brandy Thomas ‘08, a kindergarten teacher at Overbrook. Explore various attractions around Nashville on this field trip camp! Each day you will travel to places that make Nashville unique such as the Adventure Science Center, area parks, the


Parthenon, and much more. The lead explorer for this camp will be SCA history teacher Sara Strobel ‘01.

Decade Divas: Grades 4-6

Come join us in traveling through the decades! We will start on Monday with a 50s sock hop, get groovy in the 60s on Tuesday, disco through Wednesday with the 70s, rock out to the 80s on Thursday, and keep it chill on Friday with the 90s! Activities will include sock-hop games, making friendship bracelets, homemade lava lamps, splatter paint t-shirts, friendship bracelets, and plenty more. On Friday, join us for a dance party and wear your best decades gear! Shelly Gaughan ‘06 will teach this camp. She is a kindergarten teacher at a charter school and recent Milken Educator Award recipient.

TechKnow Robotics: Grades 4-7

Create robots from your own imagination and watch them come to life in this camp! The robots will spin, pick up things, make sounds, and more by programming a simple app on the iPad. Girls only need to bring their imagination to the robotics playing field—no experience necessary. At the end of the week, girls will have their robots compete against other robots for best design and ability to complete various obstacles in the arena. Ashley George teaches physics and is the coach of the SCA robotics team and she will teach this camp. *Please note this camp will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cupcake Wars: Grades 5-8

cilia Cupcake Wars! Each day campers will learn and bake different cupcake recipes that will culminate in a battle round at the end of the week for family members to judge. Gina Myers is a retired teacher and will teach this camp, bringing her many years of experience making professional delectable treats.

Modern Calligraphy: Grades 6-8

In our increasing digital age, you can use your handwriting to stand out in the crowd. Spend some time this summer learning how to develop your own unique lettering style. From drawing letters with a pencil to using traditional dip pens and ink, you’ll move from simple letter forms to creating projects. Jennifer Allen, owner of Nashville’s only store specifically for hand letterers-Paper and Ink Arts, will teach this camp.

Portfolio Development: Mixed Media Drawing and Painting: Grades 9-12 $190

Campers will explore various drawing and painting techniques with an overall emphasis on learning to develop a cohesive work of art. Independent thought and development of personal artistic expression will be encouraged. There will be a celebration of art in the SCA gallery on the final day of camp.

Do you love all things fashion? Come join me for a week full of dress-up, accessories, and clothes! We will be making all the latest fashion trends! Come join us on Friday while we strut our stuff in our very own SCA fashion show! Lissa Gaughan, a fourth grade teacher at Harpeth Valley Elementary and veteran camp instructor, will teach this camp. This camp offers girls a basic understanding of the game of tennis with an emphasis on the fundamentals and match play. Each camper will learn the five basic shots in tennis and also learn to keep score and court position. All skill levels are welcome. This camp will be coached by SCA assistant tennis coach, David Donlon.

The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" Celebration: Grades 3-6 $145

The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" album celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. Join the celebration by singing and moving to Beatles songs, design your own submarine t-shirt, and be a part of a living submarine in a performance at the end of camp. Paulette Hatalosky taught music for 17 years at Overbrook School and is very excited to share her love of the Beatles through teaching this camp.

Discover the power of words as we create personal journals and fill them with poetry, writing, photos, and art. This camp is a place for girls who love to tell stories and are seeking inspiration and an audience. Families can join us at the end of the week for a coffee-house style poetry slam! SCA alumna Ellie Drennan ‘10 teachers English at Overton High school and is also assistant director for SCA musicals.

Come have fun exploring the use of mixed media in art! Campers will learn to create works of art in the style of Andy Warhol, Jim Dine, and Wayne Thiebaud. Girls will be introduced to a wide variety of artist materials. There will be a celebration of art in the SCA gallery on the final day of camp.

If you think woodshop is for boys, think again! Get ready to use power tools, saws, drills, sanders and other fun materials to make your own wood projects: games, clocks, plaques, and much more! Sr. Maria Kolbe, a Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia, will teach this camp and has been doing woodworking for several years.

Kids Baking Camp: Grades 1-4

Who doesn’t like to bake? Girls will learn the secrets of baking from reading recipes to measuring and mixing. Campers will enjoy baking everything from muffins to cakes to pizza and will be ready to amaze their family and friends. The campers will be baking one or two different things every day and will prepare food for a reception on Friday. Melody Clarke ‘03, SCA alumna and teacher at St. Bernard Academy, will be teaching this popular camp.

Play 2 Wynn Basketball Camp: Grades 1-4

This camp is for beginners and advanced players. Girls will learn how the fundamentals of how to pass, shoot, dribble and defend in the game of basketball. They will also learn 1-on-1 defensive moves as well as play in 5-on-5 scrimmages. This camp will be coached by SCA head basketball coach Donna BrownWynn, former point guard at Mississippi State before coaching there. She continued her coaching career at Belmont and most recently Tennessee State University. Coach Wynn brings tons of fun and energy to the game.

Math is 4 Girls: Grades 3-5

This camp boosts girls’ math skills to a new level through fun hands-on activities. The camp will spend time working with

multiplication, division, word problems, and fractions. Girls will also work with logic and reasoning skills. There will be a lot of fun making games out of mathematical concepts, including a “pi” celebration at the end of the week. SCA alumna and Overbrook School math and science teacher Diane Meier ‘91 will teach this camp.

Mod Podge Mania: Grades 5-8

Isn’t Mod Podge one of the greatest inventions on earth? In this camp, girls will make various artworks and crafts that use this magnificent medium. The week will end with an “artisan market” for parents and friends to enjoy. SCA visual arts teacher Amie Pike will lead this camp.

Join us for a week of performing various scenes, songs, and dances from beloved musicals which will be rehearsed during the week and performed in a showcase the last day of camp. Camps will focus on fundamentals (forehand, backhand, volley, serve), drills and games, and eventually match play. This camp will be coached by SCA assistant tennis coach, David Donlon. Come and explore the world of chocolate and enjoy making yummy, chocolatey treats to enjoy each day. Your family will love to eat your chocolate creations. In this camp girls will learn the classic craft of cross stitching and create projects such as bookmarks, monograms, and fingertip towels. Susie Schultheiss has taught math at SCA for 30 years and will teach this camp.

Kids will work on leadership and team building through participating in sports and general fitness each day. Each camp session will include body weight strength and fitness, a team game or sport, and stretching. Kimm Chase has coached youth in both sports and fitness for over 10 years. She currently coaches at Crossfit Trivium and is excited to teach this camp!

SCA alumna Diane Meier ’91 teaches at Overbrook and will coach this camp.

Pinterest Camp Creativity: Grades 5-8

Calling all those who seek the creative. This camp provides funfilled activities and Pinterest projects you’ve always wanted to try! Campers will create monograms, make bath bombs, produce artwork by experimenting with a variety of different media, make summer treats in the kitchen, and more. Volunteer Service Camp: Grades 7-12

Spend a week giving back to the Nashville community while earning service hours and making new friends. Service opportunities include Fannie Battle Day Home, Room in the Inn, and Second Harvest Food Bank. SCA social sciences teacher Deanna Kendall is passionate about service as a way to demonstrating Christian love to one’s neighbors and practicing good citizenship.

Take a trip back in time and experience the life of a Mississippian Indian, an American frontierswoman, a Tennessee suffragette, a World War II patriot or a member of the Civil Rights Movement. This week will be a hands-on history experience using Traveling Trunks from the Tennessee State Museum. Deanna Kendall has taught at SCA for 16 years in the social sciences and world languages. She is excited to teach this time traveling journey!


Stop Motion Animation: Grades 5-8

In this STEAM camp, girls will use their creativity to create a story, build characters, set, and film a stop animation mini-movie using the iPad application, Stop Motion. SCA visual arts teacher Amie Pike will teach this camp. Do you love to be creative, but do not know where to start? In this camp, we will create fun decorations and gifts that are worthy to be “pinned.” Amanda Dragan is a teacher at St. George’s Kindergarten and is excited to teach this camp.

We all LOVE baking! In this popular camp, students will learn the secrets of baking in the kitchen—measuring, mixing and creating scrumptious baked treats. Girls will enjoy baking from scratch & following recipes to make everything from cookies and cakes to brownies, muffins and breads. Each day the girls will take home delicious desserts they’ve made, and there will be a reception with parents at the end of the week. SCA past parent and St. Henry teacher Janie Sizemore will teach this camp. Join us for a baking adventure! Come explore the wonderful world of animals! If you love animals and nature, then this camp is for you! The camp will consist of trips to different animal attractions such as the zoo, animal rescues, and animal sanctuaries. Campers will also see animals on hikes and visits to nature centers. A camera or cell phone with a camera is encouraged. At the end of the week, girls will tell the story of her favorite animals with a video presentation for families. Deanna Kendall has taught at SCA for 16 years in the social sciences and world languages. She is excited to bring her love of animals to teaching this camp.

This camp will teach the fundamental skills of volleyball including passing, setting, hitting, serving, and footwork. Each day the drills will build on these fundamentals leading up to a final day of competitive situations. SCA head coach Sarah Cragon ’08 and current SCA volleyball players will coach this camp.

Campers will use science to help characters from your favorite fairytales solve science-related problems. Girls will help Little Red find Grandma and the three little pigs build a strong home, and plus much more.
