Camp St. Cecilia is a summer program designed to give

girls ages 4-17 an opportunity to have fun while learning. Campers experience St. Cecilia Academy’s academics, athletics, and fine arts programs while interacting with faculty, students, coaches, alumnae, and parents. The camps offer excellent instruction for girls by experienced instructors. Each girl attending Camp St. Cecilia will be exposed to skills in a variety of areas to further develop her academic and extracurricular interests.

CAMP HOURS: All camps are half-day unless otherwise noted, either from 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Girls attending both sessions may stay all day, bring a lunch, and eat in the cafeteria with other campers and Camp St. Cecilia staff members. BEFORE AND AFTER-CARE: Camp St. Cecilia is happy to

offer before and after-care from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. Girls will enjoy a snack, play games, and participate in other activities. Cost is $40 per week for before or after-care, $75 for both. Sign up during camp registration.

Families with more than one camper should register each child separately. The grade level for camps is the grade a child enters in August 2020.

DROP OFF/PICK UP: Drop-off and pick-up will be in Alumnae Hall at the front entrance of St. Cecilia. Please bring your daughter into Alumnae Hall the first day of camp to verify necessary information before camp begins. Check-in will begin at 8:45 a.m. the first day of each camp week for the morning session and 12:45 p.m. for the afternoon session. Campers dropped off before 8:45 a.m. will report to before-care at the $10 per day drop-in rate. Campers not picked up by 4:15 p.m. will go to after-care at the $10 per day drop-in rate. ALLERGIES: Please inform Camp St. Cecilia of any food allergies. Baking and cooking camps are not allergy-free. Camp staff will provide allergy-free snacks to those who request them.

Mini Craft camp is designed to enhance the creativity, experimentation, and self-expression of our youngest campers! Each day the girls will be given examples of projects that are themerelated and then given the tools to create their own visions. Amanda Dragan is a preschool teacher at St. George’s Kindergarten and is excited to be returning to teach this camp!

Extending Literature through Art: Grades PreK-2 $150

Girls will explore art in many classic children’s books in this camp. They will create their own art using various media. The week will end with an art show for families. SCA alumna Millie Lentz ‘08 teaches at Julia Green Elementary and will be joined by kindergarten teacher Anna Tomlin to teach this camp.

Discovering Textiles: Grades 2-5

Have you ever wondered how to knit or sew? Get ready to explore all about making textile goods. Each day will explore a different type of textile craft including sewing, knitting, weaving, cross-stitch and more! At the end of the week, campers will have plenty of projects to show off their skills. Lauren Fredericksen has experience teaching camps in Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee and is a teacher working with English language learners in Metro Nashville Public Schools. She is excited to join Camp St. Cecilia this year.

Transform science into fun with hands-on activities! Prepare demonstrations and participate in experiments on topics such as grossology, rockin’ rockets, radical reactions, and earth awareness. SCA alumna and St. Henry teacher Robyn Biga ’00 will lead the madness of great science. Girls will explore the uniqueness of southern cooking in this camp. We will cook, create, and explore things that are typical to the South, including a field trip to Goo Goo Cluster Shop. Melody Clarke ‘03 is an SCA alumna and teacher at St. Bernard Academy, and she is excited to share her love of the South in this camp! This camp is geared toward volleyball players with experience. Each day the drills will develop specific skills leading up to a final day of competitive situations. SCA head volleyball coach Sarah Cragon ‘08 and current volleyball players will coach this camp.

From planting to harvesting, from florals to fruits, we will explore all aspects of gardening in this camp. Girls will learn what it takes for gardens to grow, how to compost, and how to plant herbs for the kitchen. Each camper will also learn the beauty from gardens with floral arrangements. During this camp, girls will divide into teams and make different cupcakes each day and vote which is the best. The camp will culminate with a final competition on the last day with parents and family members deciding on the champion! The lead baker is Gina Myers, who has been a cake maker for over 20 years and loves sharing her love of baking with campers.

Telling Your Story-Solo Acting & Writing: Grades 5-8 $140

This camp is for budding storytellers! Campers will spend the week writing and performing poetry, personal stories, improv, and more. There is power in storytelling and if you have a craving to be creative, this camp is for you. There will be a performance for family at the end of the week. This camp will be directed by Brianne Kendall ‘17, who competed in solo acting at SCA and is excited to pave the way for the next generation of creative minds.

Does your little one love to play school or be the teacher? Maybe she needs a little brush up before heading into summer or wants a jump start on her next school year. We will be practicing emergent literacy and math skills through crafts, games, treats, and plenty of take-home fun for additional practice. Shelly Gaughan ‘06, a kindergarten teacher at a charter school and recent Milken Educator Award recipient will teach this camp. Join us for a week of etiquette fun! Girls will be introduced to and practice manners necessary for little young ladies of today. The camp is complete with tea parties, dances, arts and crafts, and much more. Overbrook teacher Jada Edmondson ‘85 and Waverly-Belmont teacher Carrie Beth Edmondson will co-lead this camp.

Camp Crafty: Grades K-4

Do you like to color, glue, paint, bead, collage, and glitter? This camp is a week full of crafting, each day creating a beautiful masterpiece. Projects include mosaics, window art, room decor, jewelry, and more! Families will join us on Friday for campers to show off their talents. The craft master is Lissa Gaughan who teaches fourth grade at Harpeth Valley Elementary.

Math is 4 Girls: Grades 3-5

This camp boosts girls’ math skills to a new level through fun hands-on activities. The camp will spend time working with multiplication, division, word problems, and fractions. Girls will also work with logic and reasoning skills. There will be a lot of fun making games out of mathematical concepts, including a “pi” celebration at the end of the week. SCA alumna and Overbrook School math and science teacher Diane Meier ‘91 will teach this camp.

Mod Podge Mania: Grades 5-8

Isn’t Mod Podge one of the greatest inventions on earth? In this camp, girls will make various artworks and crafts that use this magnificent medium. The week will end with an “artisan market” for parents and friends to enjoy. SCA visual arts teacher Amie Pike will lead this camp. Spend a week giving back to the Nashville community while earning at least 12 service hours and making new friends. Service opportunities include working with and for children, veterans, the elderly and the homeless. SCA social sciences teacher Deanna Kendall is passionate about service as a way to dem-

onstrate Christian love to one’s neighbors and to practice good citizenship.

Campers will explore the fundamentals of paint and learn about different styles of paint using tempera and watercolor. We will have a fun week of putting up tents, making crafty campfires, making indoor s’mores, going on scavenger hunts, and playing camp games and songs. We may even read some books! Campers should bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and blanket to camp. SCA mother and Overbrook librarian Caroline Crouch will be the camp guide for this adventure.

This camp is designed to give girls a glimpse into the world of forensics and the skills that are a great preparation for any forensics team. SCA alumna Diane Meier ’91 teaches at Overbrook School and will coach this camp.

Stitch & Sew: Grades 5-8

This camp is unique as it provides a little bit of everything a girl likes to do! Each day brings a new adventure with baking in the kitchen and making artwork experimenting with different media. Girls will make Pinterest projects, play games, and other activities around the daily theme. SCA parent and St. Henry teacher Janie Sizemore will teach this camp full of surprises and fun. There is power in imagination--power to heal, to create and to speak. This camp is for girls who love to tell stories and play make believe. Girls will spend part of the camp creating stories and letting their minds run wild. They will also look at real people who used imagination as a way of healing and creating. SCA alumna Brianne Kendall ‘17 will teach this camp and believes everyone should embrace her inner child. This camp will take the energy and excitement of volleyball, a great team sport, and put it all together for one fun-filled camp. We will focus on developing fundamental skills through gamebased drills and fun activities and themes. Life lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship will also be a focus. Margy Galassini, SCA mother and SCA assistant volleyball coach, will bring her passion for teaching to this camp.


Decade Divas: Grades 4-6

Travel through the decades in this camp! Campers will start on Monday with a 50’s sock hop, get groovy in the 60’s on Tuesday, disco through Wednesday with the 70’s, rock out to the 80’s on Thursday, and keep chill on Friday with the 90’s. The week will end with a dance party where campers will wear their best decades gear! Shelly Gaughan ‘06, a kindergarten teacher at a charter school and recent Milken Educator Award recipient, will guide campers through the decades. Nature lovers will enjoy going outside to explore nature and find out about all the animals in their own backyard. Field trips include the Nashville Zoo, Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, Shelby Bottoms Nature Center, and the Dominican Campus. SCA social sciences teacher Deanna Kendall is excited to bring her love of animals to teaching this camp.

Join us for a week of performing various scenes, songs, and dances from beloved musicals which will be rehearsed during the week and performed in a showcase the last day of camp. St. Henry School drama director Carol Ann Jones will direct this camp. This camp will teach the fundamental skills of volleyball with drills to build with a new skill each day, The week will finish with a day of competitive situations and team-building activities. JUNE 22-23, 9 A.M.-3:15 P.M. Babysitter Boot Camp: Grades 5-8

The American Red Cross will train campers for a successful babysitting business. Topics will include providing care for infants and children, choosing activities, handling emergencies, and recognizing behaviors. Girls will also be trained for first aid, infant and child CPR, and using an AED.

Dive in as we explore the wonder and amazement of oceans and the creatures that live there. We’ll do crafts with seashells, make sensory sand, read stories, and take a virtual tour of the Great Barrier Reef and other wonders underwater. Tennis FUNdamentals: Grades 1-4

This camp offers girls a basic understanding of the game of tennis with an emphasis on the fundamentals and match play. Each camper will learn the five basic shots in tennis and also learn to keep score and court position. All skill levels are welcome. This camp will be coached by SCA tennis coach David Donlon.

Explore various attractions around Nashville on this field trip camp! Each day you will travel to places that make Nashville unique such as the Adventure Science Center, area parks, the Parthenon, and much more. The lead explorer for this camp will be SCA history teacher Sara Strobel ‘01.

Who doesn’t like to bake? Girls will learn the secrets of baking, from reading recipes to measuring and mixing. Campers will enjoy baking everything from muffins to cakes to cookies and will be ready to amaze their family and friends. The campers will be baking one or two different things every day and will prepare food for a reception on Friday. Gina Myers is a retired teacher and will teach this camp, bringing her many years of experience making professional delectable treats.

All levels of tennis experience are welcome in this camp, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Camps will focus on fundamentals (forehand, backhand, volley, serve), drills and games, and eventually match play. This camp will be coached by SCA assistant tennis coach, David Donlon. From shutter shades sunglasses to shrinky dinks to Pop Art to neon colors, this camp will be full of fun 80s themed activities and crafts. We will even play classic outdoor games such as red rover and dodge ball. Dig out those 80’s clothes and join us for this fun week! 3,2,1 blast off! Join us as we take off to explore the solar system around us. We’ll make constellation crafts, space snacks, and become astronauts for the week. Elizabeth Henard ‘11, a kindergarten teacher at St. Bernard Academy, will guide girls on this adventure. Pack your doll for a week of American Girl adventure! We will explore the life and times of Nanae, Kit, Julie, Addy, Luciana, and Samantha through crafts, activities, games, and story time. At the end of the week, we will celebrate with our dolls at an ice cream social! SCA history teacher Sara Strobel ‘01 will teach this camp.

Elementary Basketball: Grades 1-4

This basketball camp will be centered on skills and fundamentals. Girls will learn how to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend on the basketball court. Camp will include games and drills to teach and practice these skills. Overbrook PE teacher and basketball coach Andrew Park will coach this camp. This camp introduces girls to the art of photography. Campers will have the opportunity to learn introductory aspects of digital photography, including composition, lighting, and digital editing. They will have the chance to express their creativity by learning to take great photos. Campers must bring their own digital camera. SCA visual arts and photography teacher Amie Pike will teach this camp.

JULY 6-10, 1-4 P.M. Science of Fairy Tales: Grades PreK-4

Mighty Art Masters: Grades 1-4

Campers will use science to help characters from your favorite fairy tales solve science-related problems. Girls will help Little Red find Grandma and the three little pigs build a strong home, plus much more. Each day will include STEM activities led by SCA alumna and Christ the King teacher Meghan Nicholson ’07. Campers will discover master artists and explore unique art styles as girls create their own masterpieces. The week will end with a gallery show for families on Friday. St. Henry School art teacher Mary Beth Green has taught art for over 15 years and will lead this camp.


Camp JOY!: Grades 2-4

Getting to know Jesus, Others, and Yourself leads to true JOY in the Christian life! Join the Dominican Sisters for a week of faith and fun, as together we grow in our friendship with Jesus through daily theme-based activities that incorporate the Scriptures, the saints, and various virtues. We will make new friends and have a lot of fun through a mix of age-appropriate games, activities, and crafts that help us discover more about God, ourselves, and the fascinating treasures of our Catholic faith!

Let’s PLAY!: Grades 3-6

Come sing and dance along as we partake in a fun and musical week! We will learn many songs, play music games, make our own instruments, and write our own tunes. Elizabeth Henard ‘11, kindergarten teacher at St. Bernard Academy will guide girls on this musical journey.

Empowered and Mindful Girls will provide a fun and enriching experience through yoga movements, mindfulness activities, games, crafts, and outdoor time to observe nature. This camp will be taught by SCA alumna Sarah Osborne ‘06, a teacher at Christ the King School and certified Habitat Kid’s Yoga instructor.

This basketball clinic is for girls of all levels interested in learning individual and team skills. Campers will learn how to shoot with proper form and be taught other basic fundamentals. There will be exciting drills and team competitions led by the SCA basketball team as well as fun giveaways. This camp will be coached by SCA basketball coach Brian Hemping.

The focus of this camp is a week filled with fashion, beauty, dancing, and crafts. There will be a pajama party, movie, and camp fashion show. Campers will have fun being a GIRL! Overbrook teacher Jada Edmondson ‘85 and Waverly-Belmont teacher Carrie Beth Edmondson will co-lead this camp.

From cookies to cake pops, from prep work to presentation, this camp will take campers from “knows a little” to “knows it all” with baking! SCA parent Jean Marie Moles has loved baking since a young age and will bring her passion to teach this camp.


Encaustics-Painting with Wax: Grades 5-8

Campers will be introduced to the technique of encaustic painting and art history of the craft. Girls will create projects on a variety of surfaces and showcase their works in a gallery show at the end of the week. Getting to know Jesus, Others, and Yourself leads to true JOY in the Christian life! Join the Dominican Sisters for a week of faith and fun, as together we grow in our friendship with Jesus through daily theme-based activities that incorporate the Scriptures, the saints, and various virtues. We will make new friends and have a lot of fun through a mix of age-appropriate games, activities, and crafts that help us discover more about God, ourselves, and the fascinating treasures of our Catholic faith!

Little Bakers that Could!: Grades 1-4

Who doesn’t like to bake? Girls will learn the secrets of baking from reading recipes to measuring and mixing. Campers will enjoy baking everything from muffins to cakes to pizza and will be ready to amaze their family and friends. The campers will be baking one or two different things every day and will prepare food for a reception on Friday. Melody Clarke ‘03, SCA alumna and teacher at St. Bernard Academy, will be teaching this camp.

Pack your doll for a week of American Girl adventure! We will explore the life and times of Nanae, Kit, Julie, Addy, Luciana, and Samantha through crafts, activities, games, and story time. At the end of the week, we will celebrate with our dolls at an ice cream social! SCA history teacher Sara Strobel ‘01 will teach this camp. Grab a sketchbook, paintbrush, and other mixed media and join us for this camp! Girls will learn the technique of visual journaling that incorporated visual art and writing together to create meaningful artworks. We will create mixed media artworks to showcase with a gallery show on Friday for families. SCA visual arts teacher Amie Pike will teach this camp. Join us for a week of sewing handmade cards. Each camper will learn how to stitch birthday and holiday cards to make for friends and family. Girls receive a starter kit to continue making cards at home. Overbrook teacher and SCA mom Jacquie Grytza and her daughter Olivia ’20 will teach this camp. This basketball clinic is for girls of all levels interested in learning individual and team skills. Campers will learn how to shoot with proper form and be taught other basic fundamentals. There will be exciting drills and team competitions led by the SCA basketball team as well as fun giveaways. This camp will be coached by SCA basketball coach Brian Hemping.
