
ART- CLAY
'Ugly Mugs' – by learning the fundamentals of clay, you will design and create your own personal functional ceramic mug. You will develop a basic understanding of clay which can be built on in the future Developing transferable clay skills including score and slip technique to join clay, coiling method, carving, applying and incising clay, the firing and glazing process. Variations of these skills allow you to make most sculptural forms out of clay.

ART - PRINTMAKING
Developing skills in print making and design. You will understand how different materials can create marks using intaglio printmaking skills. You will create your own artefact using different materials which can be anything from lace to leaves, fabrics, cards, yarn and so on.

COOKING
Learn to make delicious meals and gain recipes that you will be able to make time and time again at home. Students will gain experience in various cooking methods; Roasting, Grilling and frying. Students will also bake cakes and bread.

DEBATING
Debate will help you develop and enhance your oracy skills through partner work and group work. We will debate issues relevant to your school lives and also to the world beyond. Learn the process of formal debating using the British Parliamentary style of debate. You will debate a ‘motion’ put forward to the ‘House’ and attempt to convince a judge of the strength and validity of your arguments. You will need to be able to argue either for or against different propositions (regardless of your own views), but this will enable you to become skilled in argumentation and persuasion. This course will help to sharpen up your skills in reasoning, logic and argumentation. It will support the work done in any essay-based subjects and would be ideal for any student who wishes to pursue a career in law. It will also give you more confidence in public speaking and presenting, as well as developing your ability to clearly communicate your thoughts and ideas, which are highly desirable skills in the workplace and will support any university study.

EPQ
You will develop and improve your own learning as a critical, reflective, and independent learner. Developing and apply decision making and where appropriate problem-solving skills. EPQ also includes extended planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, evaluation and presentation skills. You will develop a written report of 5000 words which includes references & research OR an artefact (e.g. a piece of art, a computer game, a realised design) with a written report of approximately 1000 words. You will also conduct a presentation of your report to an audience and complete a logbook of progress made.

FINANCE
This enrichment opportunity will enable you to become financially aware and make independent financial decisions. Learn how to manage your money, looking at savings, investments and borrowing, as well as the consequences of poor financial decisionmaking and identity fraud.

MANDARIN
Learn how to have conversations in Mandarin and use transactional language. Pupils will learn Chinese history and geography through case studies (the first emperor, terra cotta army and the Great Wall). We will also explore Chinese martial arts and food culture. Pupils will have the opportunity to practice Chinese writing.

POLITICS
Explore different political systems across a variety of countries. You will develop an understanding of politics, systems and be able to compare and contrast different processes. It provides a wide level of knowledge of the most important aspects of UK life.

PE
During this enrichment, students will take part in a variety of sports ranging from Table Tennis, Badminton, Dodgeball, Five-a-side, Gym, Climbing, Basketball, Tennis and Softball. Lessons will be game based with elements of skill development. You will focus on developing and improving fitness levels.

FOOTBALL ACADEMY PROGRAMME
This will develop playing and coaching skills in football, working with highly qualified coaches from Newcastle Elite Academy. Students on this programme make up the school’s Sixth Form Football team. The football programme will help develop a range of skills, including: Strategic thinking, decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills, discipline and time management, teamwork, communication and leadership.
Term 1: Pre-season (August - October) Training sessions based on conditioning, 7 aside competition, friendlies.
Term 2: In-season (November - March) Team based training following game analysis, competitive league and cup games.
Term 3: Post-season (April) Finals season, friendly matches and end of season awards. Our school basketball programme, in collaboration with the Newcastle Eagles coaching team, provides students with top-tier training and development opportunities. The team plays in the AOC basketball league, which is a highly competitive league.
