This essay will explain the murder and punishment of James Bulger in 1993 by two boys aged 10. He was the second child to be snatched from a shopping centre by Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, the first child having run back to his parents. He was only 2 years old. On February 12th 1993, James Bulger was abducted, tortured, sexually attacked and murdered by two boys who had truanted school to carry out their planned attack. He was led away from the New Strand Shopping Centre, then taken on a walk across Liverpool and was beaten along the way. He suffered 42 injuries in total and was weighted to a railway track in order to make the murder appear an accident. The two 10 year-old boys involved, Robert Thompson and John Venables, regularly truanted school and had planned the attack beforehand. They are the youngest convicted murderers in modern English history. James Bulger, their victim, was with his mother at the shopping centre when he was coaxed away from her with sweets. Robert Thompson and James Bulger were sentenced to 15 years but only served 8 years. I think that this sentence is unfair as Bulger‟s family has been seriously affected by the shock of a young life being taken away for no reason. Many people would argue that Bulger‟s killers deserve a life sentence – “a life for a life”, but in reality they only served just over half of their initial sentence. In conclusion, the murder of James Bulger was a disgusting one-off crime which still causes argument. Many people believe that his killers
deserve a life sentence, but other believe that they were very young at the time of the murder and deserve a second chance. Personally, I believe that 8 yearsâ€&#x; sentence is far too little for a fair punishment, and they should have served at least 15 years.

In this essay I will explain and describe the crime and punishment of the James Bulger case, and what my views are on the horrific incident. I find it difficult to understand how two young boys, how anyone for that matter, could treat a child so maliciously, killing them in cold blood. On 12 February 1993, 2 year old James Patrick Bulger was kidnapped from New Strand Shopping Centre by two ten year old boys while he was out shopping with his mother. CCTV footage showed that he was led away by two boys, later identified as Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. The trio were seen by 38 different people as Jamie was taken for a 2.5 mile walk through Liverpool, and it is said that he was crying and bleeding, as a result of the two boys’ actions. They had planned to return him to police station miles away from the shopping centre, but instead took him to a canal, where he was dropped on his head and suffered severe facial injuries, before being led to a train line. Once there Venables and Thompson abused Jamie, pouring paint into his eyes, forcing batteries into his eyes, and striking him with an iron bar. James suffered from 10 skull fractures, and it is suspected that the boys abused sexually throughout the ordeal. They then tied him to railway line, weighed his head down with bricks and left him to die. The murder was the main law broken in the incident, though several others were broken as well. Venables and Thompson were charged with Jamie’s abduction and murder on 20 February, and convicted on 24 November the same year, making them the youngest convicted murders in English modern history. The judge, Mr Justice Morland, told Thompson and Venables that they had committed a crime of "unparalleled evil and barbarity... In my judgment, your conduct was both cunning and very wicked." They were recommended to serve a minimum of eight years, and many people thought this was not long enough. I do not think that this sentence was long enough as an adult would had been sentenced to a lot more. Both children proved to have sadistic natures as children, and spending 8 years in prison would further their state. In my opinion, they should have served a lot longer than eight years for the severity of their crimes. However, some people do not think it was fair that Thompson and Venables were tried in an adult court, as they were just 10 years old. Some people also think that the eight years in prison was enough to show them the error of their ways as children.
After being released in 2001 and given a new identity, Jon Venables was re-jailed last year on child pornography charges. Officials have ruled out giving him a new identity, because they do not believe he is able to keep his dark past a secret. I think that this proves that Venables has not changed since his childhood, and should definitely be sentenced to full life imprisonment. In conclusion I do not think that the sentence was enough to fit the crime of 1993. “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. - Exodus 21:23-25 KW
The James Bulger story. In my extended piece I will be writing about the the horrific death of victim James Bulger, the crime committed, the punishments which were given and if these punishments were fair. The crime was commited by two ten year old boys who had decided to take the day off school and abduct a young child from there mother at a shopping centre. They took two attempts at this as the first time the child made their way back to their mum , but the second child james bulger age 2 wasn’t so lucky. They took him on a 2.5 mile walk to get him as far away from is family as possible whilst beating him on the way to keep him quite. 38 people walked by and decided not to intervene even though james was crying and had blood on his face. The boys took him to a railway where they tortured the two year old physically and sexually and then placed him on the traintrack in hope of a train to soon pass, he died on the trck before the train came. The 2 boys were charged with the murder on 20th February 1993. They also were charged with 15 years in prison but only served 8. After 8 years the murderers were released and given new identities. I think the punishments given do not fit the crime and are wrong because this crime was too horrific and shocking for 8 years to cover the bill, the 2 lads were only ten and should have been totally oblivious to some of the things
they had done and the violence they took part in, also they must have been sick to have preplanned this day and not to stop themselves. Also I think for the extreme scale this crime was on they should have spent most of there lives in prison as they have no roght to have new identities and live a normal life after taking someone elses in such a horrible way. To conclude the punishment wasn’t tough enough on the murderes they deserve to suffer themselves after what they put james and his family through this is such an horrible crime and they do not deserve to be released. Murder of James Bulger This essay will explain the murder of James Bulger and if I think that the murderers got off too lightly. James Bulger was only 2 years old before he was murdered by John Venables and Robert Thompson. The murder took place over 10 years ago.
The two murderers John Venables and Robert Thompson both had a day off school on purpose to take a child from their mother on purpose, they had taken one child from their mother however the child managed to run away and get back to his mother, so they went on the look for another to abduct, they were waiting outside waiting for someone to abduct, they saw James and waited until it was the right time. Then they stole him from his mother. When they stole him, they started to do unthinkable things to them, they pushed him into a canal, they dropped him on his head, beat him up with a pipe, put paint in his eyes, Batteries were placed in his mouth, they also kicked and stamped on him & they threw bricks at him. After all this, they put him on the railway in an attempt to make it look like an accident, a train did hit him. Forensic evidence had stated that he had died before the train had hit him.
The two boys had admitted to all this, and they were only given 15 years, but served only 8 and were both give new identities, they didn’t spend 15 years in prison, they didn’t get sentenced a full life sentence.
In my opinion, I think they should have been trialled as if it was an adult case and have at least got 30 years without early release, OR they should have what happened to James Bulger have done to them, they should have been hit and had everything thrown at them as James had, however rather than have a train hit them they should have been hung so that they could feel their lives dripping away and they can feel and suffer the same as James did.
To conclude, I think that John Venables and Robert Thompson didn’t get what they deserved, I feel that they deserved so much more than they got and that the British Prosecution is now too lean on crimes such as murder, especially after the torture that they put James Bulger through.

Crime and Punishment- The murder of Jamie Bulger
In this essay I will be exploring the case of Jamie Bulger, the case, the crime, the criminals and the punishment. I will try to balance the view however due to my extreme hatred and the emotion of this case; I do not believe it will be easy. This crime was not justified by its punishment, Jamie’s two murderers knew what they were doing, the fact that they were able to replay the events proved that. Jamie Patrick Bugler, was kidnapped, assaulted-both sexually and physically- and murdered at the age of two. His body was eventually found on 12th February 1993 but police were uncertain to when he past. He lived the short time of his life in Kirkby, England and was shopping with his mother in Bootle when his abductors kidnapped him and took him to a train track. It was there that they committed several law-breaking crimes. His Murderers were two ten year-old boy’s Jon Venables and Robert Thompson the boys were truanting school that day when they decided to coax Jamie away from his mother with sweets and brutally murder the two year old. They were given a sentence of 15 years but were released after only serving 8 years, the boys were given new identities. I do not believe that this sentence is just for the crime, these two boys knowingly poured battery acid and paint into Jamie’s eyes, threw bricks at him when he cried for his mother and sexually assaulted him. He was two years old for god’s sake! This makes the boys not only murders but paedophiles and in my opinion there is only one cure for these crimes death. As I believe that the quote “an eye for an eye” is a very appropriate punishment, everything they did to Jamie, should be done to them. However other people would disagree as Anthony Walker was also tortured murdered by racist people, and the family being Christians found it was in their teachings to forgive the murderers as in the bible it says “forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us” I believe this would be one of the reasons Gee Walker decided to ‘forgive and forget’ her son’s murderers. In conclusion, I believe that the death sentence should be brought to England and Jon and Robert should be killed for their crimes against Humanity, for what they did to Jamie was unforgivable and I do not believe that even God would forgive them.

The murder of James Bulger In my essay I am going to write about the horrific murder of James Patrick Bulger, about the crimes that were committed, by whom the punishments given and whether or not they were fair. I will also be telling you my opinion about this tragic event and what others may think. This horrific crime involved the poor victim, two year old James Bulger who lived in Kirby, England along with his family and friends. It also involved the ten year old boys John Venables and Robert Thompson, who committed these series of crimes, which included abduction, assault, sexual abuse, torture and murder. 12th of February 1993, two year old James Bulger was abducted from his local shopping centre whilst with his mother, the horrific event was planned beforehand, by two of the youngest now convicted murders In modern English history. The two boys had planned to „bunk‟ off school for the day and abduct any random younger boy to abuse, but afterword‟s return. However the day just got worse for little James as they walked him for hours, abusing him constantly on the way, covered in cuts and sores James cried and cried for his mother, but the boys learnt to ignore him and tried shutting him up with more abuse. The two ten year old boys John and Robert continued to beat him and even put blue paint and battery acid in his eyes. They sexually assaulted him, and beat him with a metal pole. James was tough enough to get through this however as they reached some banking‟s near a train track they decided not to take poor, abused James home and decided to instead end his life, they through bricks at him and attempted to tie him to the railway, this failed so instead they laid him on the railway and covered him in bricks knowing a train would come soon. While all this was happening a police report had gone out about the missing boy, eventually when he was found, his uncle had to identify the young child, even after being hit by a train and had a total of 42 injuries! On the 20th of February John and Robert where charged with the abduction and murder of James Bulger. They were sentenced to 15 years in the young offenders, but only served 8 years! Is this fair? Personally I think this is not fair at all! If they are old enough to be able to convict such a terrible and horrific crime then they should be old enough to suffer the consequences too! It would be different if they were 18+ of age and so therefor It Is totally out of order, they need to suffer the same way James Bulger did, as that obviously cannot happen they should and deserve life sentences, why should they deserve freedom and to live a normal life with new identities but poor James can no longer be with us?! I‟m sure everyone will agree that this tragic story has touched most people in many ways and justice needs to be served, they have defiantly been let of too easily for my liking. Some people may disagree with me, as they were only 10 years old and weren‟t really old enough to understand the hurt they have caused, but I strongly disagree along with most people who have heard about this story. The James Bulger Case. In my extended piece I am going to be telling you about James Bulger and his horrific death, in this essay I will tell you about what the crime was; who was involved. What the punishment was, was this fair and telling you my own opinions and what other may think. Personally I believe the prison sentence they was given is very unfair as they have brutally murdered a young 2 year old boy who had all his life ahead of him for nothing. This was not an act of defence or spontaneous killing this was planned, they decided the day before to go out kidnap and murder an innocent person. They should have severed a much longer sentence in jail as they broke many laws some of which include, kidnap, sexual assault, assault, torture and worse of all premeditated murder. th
On the day of 12 of February 1993 James Patrick Bulger was taken from the new strand shopping centre which he went to with his mother, after walking a few metres away from her, two young boys abducted James by convincing him to come with them using sweets. Once out of the shopping centre James was taken almost 2 and a half miles away to a rail way station where he was finally left to die, after being stopped on the way and beaten up on many occasion. Many violent acts was taken out on James some of which include, being beaten with bricks, having battery acid and paint thrown in his eyes and being kicked and hit. The two boys who committed this horrible crime were Robert Thompson (9 years of age) and Jon Venables (10 years of age). For the crimes which they committed, they was sentenced to 15 years in prison, personally I do not believe this is a harsh enough punishment and believe that they should be taken to America and given the electric chair or lethal injection. I think this because anyone who can do this to a little 2 year old boy who is crying for his mother, and then continue to hurt him after he did this, has no place in our society even behind bars, as this proves they have no morals or heart and could not cope with living in a world that does. However many people might disagree with me as they might have had a disturbed past what lead them to this and believe with a while to think about what they have done could become good members of society again as they are only 10/9. They don’t know the world fully yet and might not see what they have done as, as bad as what it is. There are many questions I would like to know like why did 38 people see a little boy crying and bleeding and do nothing to help or intervene? Why was they only given a 15 year prison sentence then only made to serve 8 years, especially when 15 years was not enough as it was? Why was they given a new identity when they was released, they committed the crime should they should live with the consequences? And finally what made them want to do such a hideous and horrific crime? To conclude I believe the 2 boys should have been sentenced to death as I think they knew exactly what they was doing, and got some sick form of joy from this. I also believe they should be sentenced to death because they have some mental issues and cannot cope with living along with other humans as there brain must not work in the same way as ours. Finally I also think they should be sentenced to death so it feels like the family as finally got justice, they killed someone special to them, why should they be allowed to be free after just 8 years in prison. They were 18 when they left and now have their who future ahead of them, unlike Poor little James who is now dead, and never got the chance.
