Alphonse Island is a further 400km more remote. It’s an hour’s flight from Mahe, which really does mean that it is in the middle of nowhere. In this instance nowhere turns out to be the middle of the balmy Indian Ocean, seven degrees south of the equator, which is rather a lovely place to be. There is a particular focus on nesting sea turtles, giant tortoises, sensitive marine habitats and forest rehabilitation.
