Steel Dynamics Disclosure

Steel Dynamics plans to be a leader in this area with focus toward: • Identifying and implementing emission reduction projects • Improving energy management to reduce emissions and enhance operational efficiency • Increasing the use of renewable energy, including partnering with local utilities • Researching and developing innovative technologies 2020 Scope 1 and 2 combined intensity decreased 13% compared to the 2018 baseline. This is largely attributed to a decrease in Scope 2 emission rates from our electricity suppliers. This was partly due to our electricity suppliers’ planned shift away from coal, and partly due to COVID-19 which lowered customer energy requirements in some cases allowing the demands to be met by lower emitting fuel sources. With the rebound of the economy in 2021, our Scope 2 intensity could increase slightly but we anticipate it to remain lower than 2019 levels. We continue to have conversations with our electricity suppliers to advance and advocate for renewable energy sources within our existing grid systems. The boundary for this disclosure is our six EAF steel mills, where the majority of our emissions occur. Data below is in metric tons: CO NOx (excluding N₂O) SOx Particulate matter (PM₁₀) Oxides of Manganese (MnO) Lead (Pb) Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Air emissions of the following pollutants: (1) CO, (2) NOx (excluding N₂O), (3) SOx, (4) particulate matter (PM₁₀), (5) manganese (MnO), (6) lead (Pb), (7) volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and (8) polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

For the Butler flat roll mill location, there was a change in the CO emission measurement methodology for 2020 resulting in lower reported CO emissions. CO emissions in 2018 and 2019 were back-calculated from the permitted maximum CO limitations and 2020 emissions were calculated using emission factors derived from recent compliance stack test results. For the Columbus flat roll mill location, there was a change in the CO, NOx and SO₂ emission measurement methodology. CO, NOx and SO₂ emissions in 2018 were calculated using emission factors derived from stack tests and 2019 and 2020 emissions were calculated using Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) data.

EM-IS-130a.1 Energy Management

(1) Total energy consumed, (2) percentage grid electricity, (3) percentage renewable

We do not have enough data to provide a reliable estimate for MnO air emissions and we do not consider these emissions to be material. The boundary for this disclosure is our six EAF steel mills. These operations represent the majority of our energy use. Total energy consumed (GJ) Percentage grid electricity Percentage renewable
