“The Platinum God” Neal Smith

Brings Us Some Real Outlaw

Rock with His New CD:

“KILLSMITH GOES WEST”

Neal Smith, drummer from the original Alice Cooper Group, started preparing for his musical career at an early age. At age 11, he was playing drums and acoustic guitar, plus added keyboards into the mix. He loves to write songs, but does not consider himself a guitar player, per se, but has made his talent and love of music work in his favor. One of the great songs he has written is from the “Love It To Death” album- “ Hallowed Be My Name”. In my recent interview with him, he told me he has built up a collection of 12 guitars, which include a “Flying V”, and a “Stratocaster”.

Originally from the Akron Ohio area, he was close friends, the late Glen Buxton, RIP. Glen was the Lead guitarist for the original Alice Cooper group, who he fondly referred to as “GB”. They formed a special bond like brothers, early on before they were ever in the band together. The Alice Cooper group ran from 1967, until it disbanded in 1974. Somewhere around 2015-2016, he received a phone call from someone in the Greenwich Connecticut area, who said he had some Glen Buxton artifacts, from when they lived at the Galesi Mansion. Neal was skeptical about it since he knew everything they had at the mansion. There was one piece of artifact that he was very interested in, The body of Glen Buxton’s blonde Gibson SG guitar, which was pictured on the back cover of “ The Love It To Death” album. The guitar was totally stripped down, no neck, hardware, or knobs, just plain wood. He knew he could round up the right people to restore Glen’s guitar back to its original state, so he contacted the guitarist he was working with on his Killsmith series,Rick Tedesco, who has a music store in Connecticut called “The Guitar Hangar.”Through his connections, they found someone

in California to build the guitar from ground up. Since the guitar was 50 years old, they had to get vintage parts for it, as well as making it look older by “antiquing” it. The guy who put it together said that it was one of the most amazing guitars he played, and didn’ want to give it back. Neal used it on some recordings, with plans to use it on more in the future, and refers to it as “GB”s Ghost”.

In 2011 he was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, with fellow original Alice Cooper group bandmatesDennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, and Alice Cooper. With six gold and five platinum records to his credit, he is a living legend! In 2016,he put his signature 18 piece, custom wrapped Premier Mirror Ball drum set that he used on the 1973 Billion Dollar Babies Tour, up for auction. The Billion Dollar Babies Album, and the song is my favorite of all of the Alice Cooper group albums, along with Neal’s signature drum intro!(Followed by The Love It To Death album). I had the pleasure of meeting Neal and Alice for the first time in 1971, backstage at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, spent time hanging out at shows, and joined the festivities at their Billion Dollar Babies afterparty at The Showboat, Penns Landing, Philadelphia. Something Neal told me that I did not know about surprised me. He said that during that tour, the band was getting hate mail, was banned in alot of cities, and even had a bomb threat, so they had to have a bodyguard! I was shocked to say the least! Nevertheless, the band celebrated their 50th Anniversary of the album in March 2023, and fans are STILL going to shows and wanting to hear their music.

Neal Smith has performed and recorded with many other artists you may not be aware of like Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult,The Plasmatics, Deadringer, Ant-Bee,Bruce Cameron, as BDS- Joe Bouchard, Dennis Dunaway, Smith, and The Hollywood Vampires. Starting from his first album- “Platinum God”, which he considers a Neal Smith solo album,he has recorded a series of albums, sometimes diverting to different genres, which are:

• Platinum God (Released in 1999, written 1975)

• Cinematik (2001)

• Cinematik: One Full Moon Away (2002)

• Killsmith: Sexual Savior (2008)

• Killsmith Two (2011)

• Killsmith & The Greenfire Empire (2014)

• Neal Smith Pop 85/95 (2020)

• Killsmith Goes West (2023)

The last time I saw Neal and the “original” Alice Cooper group boys was around October 2017 when they were at The Chiller Theatre Expo, in Parsippany NJ. At that time he was promoting his “Killsmith and The Greenfire Empire” cd and book, and I did a video interview with him and the boys.

In our recent Music 101 interview, I asked him what he has been up to since I last saw him. He replied that during the pandemic, he was growing his hair back long again, writing songs, traveling, getting together with Alice Cooper and Michael Bruce, doing music and playing golf. Enjoying life and trying to stay healthy rates high on his list as well.

Talking about his latest project- “Killsmith Goes West”,is the 4th album in his Killsmith series, which he dubs“Outlaw Rock”. Neal said that he goes west every winter, and says there is so much inspiration because of all the history around the Southwest and in Arizona. There are many great songs on his latest cd. One of the songs I like is called: Tequila,Tamales and a Woman. It is a western tale of guys playing cards where one guy cheats and gets shot and killed by the other guy. He tries to plead self defense, but is charged with murder, and going to get hanged. The man’s dying request is for Tequila, Tamales, and a woman, so the next day he is a happy man when he goes to the gallows. Neal said he likes the guys back in the 50’s and 60’s who were great storytellers in their songs, like Johnny Horton,Frankie Lane, and Jimmy Dean.In a recent review of Neal’s latest cd, he was complimented that his songs were great storytelling songs. Speaking of great stories, One of the titles from his latest cd was inspired by Neal asking their armed, ex-military bodyguard what he was going to do when faced with the threats to the band, how do you make the decision to use violet force or not? He said there was just one rule: When you pull it out, “ Pull it out smokin”, because if you don’t, someone else will, referring to his gun. It made a great title for a song, and is a rockin and smokin ‘one at that! There is a beautiful balad on his cd called Sunsets Of Gold, with steel guitar, fiddle, and nice harmonies that shows a different side to

Neal’s music. Here is the list of songs on his latest cd:

1. Shaughnessy Highway

2. Tequila, Tamales, And A Woman

3. Pull It Out Smokin

4. Big Wheels Rollin’ West

5. Tattooed Cowgirl

6. Coffee, Beer & Borrowed Time

7. If Jesus Was A Gunfighter

8. Evil Wind

9. Sunsets Of Gold

10. Jukebox Rose

You can purchase Neal’s current cd- “Killsmith Goes West”, which includes a free sticker on his website: www. nealsmithrocks.com All of his cds are also available, plus merch like signed drumsticks. Look for the release of his new upcoming CD in the spring, “Hard In A Rock Place”

Remembering Sandra Elyane Hurvitz AKA ESSRA MOHAWK

Essra Mohawk was born Sandra Elayne Hurvitz,in Philadelphia April 23rd, 1948. In 1967 she moved to NYC where she met and casually dated Frank Zappa for one year. After persuading her to join “The Mothers Of Invention” as the first female to join the band, he fondly dubbed her “Uncle Meat”. Zappa signed her to his record label Bizarre Records where he produced her first album. In 1969, some time after leaving The Mothers, she released Primordial Lovers, which was said to be “One of the best 25 albums ever made”, by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Coming from the Philly area I remember the Children’s learning shows in the 70’s like Schoolhouse Rock, where her voice will not be forgotten, performing” Interjections”, “Mother Necessity”, and “Sufferin Till Suffrage”.

You may not recognize her name, but you will know her work. She was a free spirit with a voice like an Angel. Talented not only vocally, but also in playing guitar, mandolin, and piano. Essra had an eclectic sound, a mixture of folk and jazz.

www.steelnotesmagazine.com

24

In 1976 she was a session musician, and backup singer for Carole King, and John Melloncamp. After finishing with her session work, she later performed with The Jerry Garcia Band, and recorded and arranged background vocals for Kool and The Gang.

After recording another album in Philadelphia, in 1986, Cyndi Lauper turned her song “ Change Of Heart” into a hit, before another one of her songs, “Stronger Than The Wind”, was recorded by Tina Turner. Essra recorded 6 more albums after moving to Nashville Tennessee, where she became a member of the board of the musicians and artists for peace. Since the pandemic shut everything down starting in 2022, the music scene did not pick up until around 2022.

Essra and I were friends for several years. She was a great soul, beautiful inside and out. We talked about music,Philly, which we were both from, and our cats and dogs. She had her beloved Romeo, a basset Hound who passed away the year before that she missed dearly. She talked about

health, supplements, and chanting. We did a few radio shows about her career .One fun time in particular was for my Music 101 With Alexxis Steele Anniversary show, which I had her on as a surprise guest for producer Kim Fowley, whom she had worked on music with.

In recent years I had not kept in contact with Essra as much as I would have liked to, due to some of my own health issues. Essra invited me to go to Nashville, and stay with her.

Unfortunately I had 2 back to back major surgeries that prevented me from traveling, and my plan was to get to Nashville in July during the Namm show, and visit Essra while I was there. Sadly, she passed away from cancer in December 2023, and I did not get the opportunity to see her, or say goodbye before she left this earth.

I will always remember Essra telling me to keep Chanting. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo

Actor Sean Kanan Brings His WAY OF THE COBRA

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with actor, author, and producer Sean Kanan. Sean Kanan is a man of many talents and his career encompasses many facets of the entertainment world.

Sean was born in Ohio but Raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the town known for fireworks and hot dogs.

He graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, 1985; and was in good company with another actor who also attended the school. It was attended by actor James Stewart, from 1927-1928.

Kanan attended Boston University where he majored in Political Science, for two years before graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in political science. During Christmas 1999, he accompanied Christie Brinkley and Al Franken as guests of Secretary of Defense William Cohen, to Bosnia and Kosovo where they entertained U.S. troops.

Early in his career in 1989, Kanan was chosen over 2000 hopefuls for the role of Mike Barnes in the Karate Kid III.

During filming he had suffered internal bleeding from injuring his omentem membrane that connects the stomach to other organs and 4 days later collapsed at a vegas hotel and underwent life saving surgery. Sean did not let that stop him from reaching his goals, and with strength and determination, fought his way back to good health.

Lovers of the Karate Kid franchise were thrilled when the characters came back through a new show called Cobra Kai, and brought back Bad Boy Mike Barnes in season five.

Thanks to Netflix, we will get to see Sean Kanan reprise his role around the end of 2024 in season six as Mike Barnes in the tv show Cobra Kai, which is loved by millions of fans worldwide. I have to say that we are all bummed out that this will be the final season, and hope there will be some spin off shows to appease our desire for Sean’s character portrayed in the show.

Some of the more recent films Sean has been in, was performing with another Pennsylvania boy, Daniel Roebuck, in the space movie “Colonials”, playing the role of Alien, Zeke. Sean explained to me that this was probably his favorite character that he has portrayed, because it challenged him, and is not the kind of role you would normally expect him to be in. This movie is available on Amazon Prime.

Having the opportunity to perform alongside one of his favorite actors, Bruce Willis, in 2 films: “Killing Field” and “The Fortress”, he felt blessed to have had that time with him. Unfortunately,Bruce had to stop working due to his health issues.

Kanan also appears as bad boy with a heart of gold, “Deacon Sharpe,” on the world’s most-watched daytime drama, CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful”, as the father of Hope Logan. Kanan’s character fathered her with the love of his life, Brooke Logan. Currently, he teamed up with and got engaged to the

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 32

most hated character on the show- Sheila Carter, so B & B fans will want to see how this plays out! Kanan has also portrayed the same role on its sister show, the number one daytime drama in the U.S., The Young, and the Restless. Before joining the premiere daytime lineup, Kanan also played “AJ Quartermaine” on “General Hospital”.

Kanan has authored four books:

1. The Modern Gentleman: Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan, teaches men how to relate to women, as well as being a cookbook.

2.Success Factor X, was co-written with motivational speaker Jill Lieberman. In this book Sean spoke with many successful men, such as Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban.

3. Way of the Cobra (WOTC) Transform yourself and you can transform the world. Kanan urges you to release your inner Cobra. This book was recently released as an audiobook on Audible, and is narrated by Kanan himself.

4. Welcome to the Kumite, his latest release, draws on intimate personal stories to illustrate his strategies and philosophy for achieving success.

In 2021, Kanan won the Daytime Emmy® award for Outstanding Limited Series as the Executive Producer and Creator of Studio City (Amazon Prime), for which he was also Emmy® nominated in the categories of Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Writing Team. Kanan won the Indie Series Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2019 and 2023 for portraying Studio City protagonist “Sam Stephens.”

2022 brought a surprise as the “Bad Boy Mike Barnes” role was reprised from the Karate Kid III franchise, in season Five of the popular Netflix series Cobra Kai. We are eagerly awaiting his return for season six at the end of 2024, but disappointed at this being the final season.

Kanan remains steadfast in his mentoring on the Way Of The Cobra lifestyle, being healthy, and keeping fit. You can find him on Instagram offering his seminars for improving your life and losing weight.

Follow him on Instagram: @sean.kanan and Twitter: @seankanan.

Catching Up with Actor, Screenwriter, Musician VICTOR COLICCHIO

Hi Alexxis & congratulations on the 10 year anniversary of STEEL NOTES MAGAZINE.

Some of my memories are of time spent as a contributing writer. “Colicchio’s Corner” covered film, stage, music, and happenings around Manhattan.

My craziest memory is when you & I went to Madame Tussauds’s Wax Museum and posed with the celebrity figures. The accompanying article claimed that we were at the “Party of the Year”. We posed with Puffy Combs, Nicolas Cage, Brad Pit among others. Our readers were so excited to see us at this exclusive party with these superstars. When our readers turned the page there we were posing with John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Biggie Smalls, and other celebs who have passed. At the top of the page it was written APRIL FOOLS.

I’m doing great. Still going to parties, playing music and

acting. I recently returned from Spain where I co-starred as a soldier in the film “Death Border” directed by Danny Garcia. My most prized acting roll was in George Bugatti’s play “ Trial on the Potomac’’ . I portrayed Judge John Sirica, a former prize fighter turned Washington DC district court judge. He was featured in the cover of TIME MAGAZINE under the heading “The Man who took down Nixon ‘’ It was a fun and challenging role. I was asked to reprise my role for the documentary “Secrets of Watergate.“

As usual I’ve been attending Plays, Premiers & Parties. The party of the year for was Spike Lee’s party at Ft Green Park celebrating the music of Prince & Michael Jackson. In addition to the thousands of fans attending were Chris Rock, Rosie Perez & Dean Winters. It’s been a fun year. Once again congrats, and see you the next time you hit Manhattan.

MBW: Ladies and Gentlemen and Children of all ages, I am your Ring Leader. My name is Marlowe B West. I have been the Star Reporter here at Steel NotesMagazine for 10 years ... It has been my quest, to bring to the attention of my beloved fans and readers, the treasures I find along this tireless job of taking Manhattan.

Today, it brings me much pleasure and satisfaction to bring to you the multi-talented Tym Moss. I have recently been thoroughly entertained by a couple of his subversive acts. One was called Twisted TV, presented at Pangea, on the lower east side, in which he and his lovable cast members effortlessly tear up tired old Saturday Night Live without even trying.

At Christmastime, at the Copacabana, he starred in Ike Avelli’s widely acclaimed, hysterical 50 Shades of Gay. A very gay, cheerful and colorful twist on traditional Christmas. Brimming with talent, gut splitting stunts, a laugh a minute. While at the same time richly entertaining, heart warming and cheerful.

Your face beams, Tym. What is behind that face? That content and confident aura of yours?

TM: It’s been a very long road…. But I am finally an Entertainer. A Singer, Actor, Host for TV, Radio and Stage Events, and Producer. I perform in Cabaret, Nightclubs,Theater, Musical Theater, TV, Web series and Film.

MBW: So I see and where did all of this begin, my friend?

TM: I grew up in the countryside of Indiana in the 1960s and 70s. It was a different world. Very protected and sheltered. I never heard the words gay or homosexual. I couldn’t understand why I was more attracted to the other boys than the girls. We were a Baptist family so I couldn’t even entertain such thoughts or I would go to hell!

MBW: No! I know!!! A lot has changed. It’s truly unbelievable.

TM: My father wanted me to play sports, basketball, little league baseball, etc. After many failed attempts (I hated sports so much) I realized I was not like the other boys. I just wanted to be a cute cheerleader like the girls on the sidelines! I learned to do some gymnastics and in high school, approached the sponsor of the cheerleaders to see if I could be the mascot. They approved it. They could not call me a cheerleader because I was a boy, so I was Astro, the Astronaut for the Caston Comets! I’d break through the big paper hoops in front of the players and run down the football field doing back handsprings. Then I’d join the cheerleaders on the sidelines to do all the routines. I had a ball!

MBW: Well I must say it took a lot of creative courage, nerve and balls to land the gig as mascot and by the sound of it you were having a blast.

TM: I tried to be like the other boys. But I soon learned that I was more into the plays, and the music and the dance!! I was a total embarrassment to my family I’m sure.

MBW: Well that in itself could be a terrible drag but I can tell that you were inwardly certain what you were doing.

TM: I found such an incredible solace in singing and performing. The plays and choirs were the only place I could be myself.

MBW: Smart cookie!

TM: When I was 6, my parents got an organ so I had to take organ lessons. I learned the basics, but then walked away from it. Years later when I became more interested in music, I returned to the organ and piano.

MBW: Rings bells loud and clear, man. Wow !!! When I was 6 I would sit at my Nana’s upright piano and pluck out tunes. Nana was floored and made a big fuss and sent the piano to our house but very shortly thereafter Dad put it out to the street.

TM: Omg! That’s terrible. The obstacles we have to overcome to be our true selves and find our passion. Well, for me, it was when I first heard Barbra Streisand sing. Omg!.....I got all her albums. I studied everything about her vocal abilities. Her incredible breath control, her precision of solidly hitting the notes, the confidence and emotion, etc. So in many ways, Barbra Streisand taught me to sing!! She was my vocal coach and she never knew it.

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 47

MBW: ... and you ended up with a really beautiful voice yourself.

TM: Oh, thank you so much, Marlowe. So like all the other boys, I had a girlfriend in high school. We loved each other very much and had a great sex life. But the Baptist boy in me knew I had to be going to hell for having premarital sex. Then I discovered there were other young men out there like me who liked having sex with other young men! It was on. So then I figured I was going to the lower layers of hell!! No hope for my soul. My soul was taken away.

MBW: Don’t mind me for laughing but I personally have no regard for organized religion. I don’t intend to get into it but by 5th grade in Catholic school I had it!

TM: It took me until I was in my 40s. Lol. Before my senior year of high school, after going to school with all my friends my entire life in the small community, my father got transferred to a different town up in northern Indiana. There was no way I was going to move and leave everything and everyone I ever knew. My mom told me to go check out the school. I asked the music director of this huge new school where I knew no one, if their music program was any good. He reached over and handed me an album! They make an Album? They played the top music, pop and disco. And they traveled the Midwest like a professional band. I’M MOVING HERE NEXT YEAR!

I was grateful to be one of the lead singers for CONGLOMERATION and got to go touring, recording and a touch of stardom experience. And I loved it!

MBW: There’s that kid with all that creative courage, nerve and balls again.

TM: After performing in a few places and on the road, once again, I left everything and everyone I ever knew and moved to a very dangerous, filthy, scary NYC and had to learn how to survive. But the men made it worth the horror.

MBW: Uh Oh !!!

TM: I guess I thought I deserved to be punished and deserved a difficult life because I was such a sinner with no hope for my soul.We didn’t have mentors in the gay community. We were just making it up as we went along. Many had gotten thrown out of their homes. We all found our way to NYC. I got lost in the open sexual freedom of the early 80s. I lost my identity.I was never told, or taught, that 2 men could actually fall in love with each other and build a life together. Again, we were making things up as we went along. So I just always thought men were just for sex. Getting houses together and raising families were for straight people.

MBW: There it is right there ... the guilt.

TM: I got manipulated into Real Estate which I hated. The guy that ran it used to be in entertainment with Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, etc. I thought I’d help him with the Real Estate and he’d help me with my entertainment career. He had no intention of that. He wanted someone to run the Real Estate. So he was constantly telling me that I wasn’t

a good entertainer, I would never make money as a singer or actor. I should just stay and do the Real Estate. After hearing this for a couple of years I agreed with him. I gave up. I lost my dreams.

MBW: Not sounding good, man. You lose your dreams and you’re done.

TM: I started reaching for drugs and alcohol to hide the pain inside. I required more and more over time. This developed to a 20 year drug and alcohol addiction that by all accounts should have killed me. It got to extreme levels and the insanity along with the extreme behavior of myself and those around me got way out of hand. Stabbings, break ins, hospital stays…. All became normal. I lost all my memories due to a brain atrophy and scar tissue on my brain from having small strokes and not knowing it. When I finally was faced with death, I decided to reach out for help. My memories started to return slowly, but the first beautiful memory to emerge like a beautiful white light from deep inside me,was that I remembered… I’M AN ENTERTAINER. I’M A SINGER. I’M AN ACTOR. I had forgotten about it for 20 years. 20 years! That beautiful memory is what I grabbed ahold of and it helped to guide me out, along with lots of doctors and therapists for many years. That was the beginning of a very long, confusing, painful, scary, dark, lonesome road back. By far the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. I had to pull up strength and inner power I didn’t even know I had. When I committed to getting back into entertainment, the Universe would send me these miraculous opportunities that would light up my path. That’s how I knew entertainment was my destiny. It led me out of the darkness.

MBW: I call mine The Pleiadians ... angels and fairies.

TM: Yes exactly. Well, it’s been almost 18 years since my last line of cocaine. I’m still so grateful daily that I am free to be my true self and I get to pursue my true passion in life, which is to entertain people. Make them laugh, make them cry, make them think, make them feel.

MBW: You are a seriously beautiful entertainer, Tym.

TM: Oh, Marlowe, thank you so much. That’s so sweet. Well, I am NOW surrounded by some of the most loving, supportive, creative, loyal friends and artists in the world. I’m so grateful.

MBW: Like minds attract.

TM: I travel the country with my dear friend (he’s more like a brother) the hysterical Ike Avelli in 50 Shades of Gay. We have performed in so many cities around the US. And it’s always a good time, both for us and the audience!

MBW: But I see you all over social media. Like you’re everywhere.

TM: That’s because we are! LOL. But I also have a talk show with the incredible, and incredibly beautiful, Wendy Stuart (who is more like a sister to me). It’s called ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. We interview some of the most interesting singers, actors, authors, creatives, etc in America today.

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 48

MBW: Oh my God. Do you ever come up for air?

TM: Rarely! Lol. I have taken my one man Cabaret show around the country as well. I tell my life story through stories and song.

MBW: You should be a movie star.

TM: Funny you should mention that! Lol. I have starred in a movie. (I’m officially a movie star now!) It’s called JUNK, by the brilliant Michael Penny. A full length original and unique feature film, a musical with an LGBT theme and only 2 people in the cast. Robbie Wayne and myself. MBW: Tell our readers what you have coming up so we can watch for you.

TM: I am working on developing a play called ‘Little House On The Ferry’. A hysterical musical, written by Robert Gould, about 3 friends going to Fire Island the weekend Marriage Equality passes in NY State.

MBW: After witnessing you guys with all your crazy energy and charisma I can imagine that being a big hit.

TM: By the way, I’m going to be heading the Pride Channel on UBC TV for CEO Peggy Dodson.I have some other big projects I’m working on that I’m sure you’ll be hearing about soon. So follow me on all social media. Just search Tym Moss.

MBW: It was a barrel of fun and very insightful having you as my guest today, Tym ... Do you have anything you would like to say to all your fans out there?

TM: I’m very grateful that I was one of the lucky ones that made it out of the total darkness, found my path back to my Inner Light and my True Authentic Identity.

MBW: If I could grant you 3 wishes what would they be?

TM: Hmmm?..1. That I have perfect pain free health so I could continue to effortlessly entertain the masses, hopefully inspiring & making people feel good. 2. That more and more people around the world would discover my talent and continue to follow and support me making my star rise nationally and internationally. 3. I would really like to find a Loving and supportive partner/ husband to share this journey with Joyfully.

Hello dear fans and readers ... This is your Ring Leader again, Marlowe B West ... Welcome back to Steel Notes Magazine ... You may or may not have already noticed but in this issue, we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary. Makes my head spin to think I have been the Star Reporter here since day one. It’s crazy cool. Thank you so much, Alexxis, for such a golden opportunity.

It gives us great pleasure to be welcoming back the original exotic Punk Rock fashion designer from St. Marks Place. Miss Natasha Adonizio. Natasha was my very first interview here. We never lost contact, but she soon moved away to Florida. Everyone on the Lower East Side’s jaws dropped. Steel Notes had to reach out and see if we could round her up. You know, check out her action. See what she’s been up to these days.

MBW: Natasha! Dahling!! How’s it goin’, Punk Goddess???

NA: This is actually an awkward time to be doing an interview. I will be moving to LA and getting started in place where I can show my new looks. Right now, I’ve been looking for a place in LA but it’s not easy.

MBW: Well, we haven’t heard anything from you for quite a spell. You mention “new looks”. Sounding strongly positive, like you got something cooking on the back burner. Do you wish to fill us in.

NA: A whole lot has changed since I moved on from what I was doing before. I wanted to upgrade into a more couture collection, using silk fabrics and leather, among other fabrics. I’m very excited about doing this and have many ideas going forward.

MBW: Well, I apologize if it seems we’re intruding. Even a little glimpse would be sufficient. Not expecting miracles barging in on ya like this. These days you just can’t get a grip on time. Technology is racing forward right beneath our own feet.

NA: Here are some designs that I did a while ago. I wanted to launch a line of punk couture, but never did because other things got in the way. These dresses have never been seen before.

MBW: Ooo La La. Your Natasha-ness is shining through, loud and clear. Simply & flawlessly gorgeous. Brandi and Bonnie are looking more stunning than ever modeling your clothes, as they have in days of old. Perfecto.

NA: As I move in to my new looks, the sexiness still stays as before. Everything was stretch and skintight, which will still be available, but I’ve grown into a more sophisticated version, with lots of see-through chiffon.

MBW: Sexy. You certainly are sounding super confident and in complete control.

NA: I feel confident that my new looks will find the right customer. Women that want to be out front and talked about. I know my looks will catch on. I am in control of

the new looks. I’m sure people will have things to say about how inappropriate my looks are. But never mind. That’s who I am.

MBW: Well, there’s nothing more distracting than picking up and starting all over. Gotta give a gal a whole lot of credit. That’s a gigantic move and it sounds to me that you are all fired up and already cooking. You got a new exciting vibe. What you’re showing us, not to mention the enthusiasm you’ve got, shows your confidence in bringing in the New Natasha to the forefront ... and in a new hot location. What about your original punk rock image? Sounds like you’re leaving a lot of your trademark “sexy” stuff somewhat in the background.

NA: I’d rather call myself “New Space Age”, sexy with confidence, rather than retro. It’s going to look expensive like real couture, handmade. One piece at a time.

MBW: Sounding solid and divine. Love your inspiration and ambition. We, here at Steel Notes Magazine and all our awesome fans and readers are all happy for you and wish you all the maddening lucrative success that lies there ahead of you, Nastasha ... You’ve got something hot happening and the world should get excited about it.

NA: Thank you Marlowe & Alexxis and everyone. Congratulations. Ten years is quite a stretch.

MBW: It’s our pleasure , Natasha and before I let you go I have one more question. My favorite question. If I could grant you three wishes, what would they be?

NA: Health, Love & Success

TOP OF THE WORLD kicks off this CD and his voice is quite impeccable as the song as inflections of Linkin Park. The melody is straight forward , but will get in your head.

CROSSROADS has the best lyrics ever and as he tells about his journey so far. Listen closely, you might be able to relate to it. Very impressive song. GRAVITY is another great song that has a great video to go with it. Once again, it has the Linkin Park touch to it that will stay in your head. I love it!

Brian Nahlen: Cicada Moona

Brian Nahlen is a Independent multi-musician hails from North Little Rock, Arizona. He, definitely, has a sound of his own and is quite a delight to the ears. The band is made of up of Brian Nanlen-Lead vocals, guitar, mandolin, ukulele; Jason Lee Hale-Lead guitar; Tommy Priakos-Keyboards/synths; Brian Wolverton-Bass; Daniel Ohlan-Drums and Ren Gudino, Levi Coffman-Backing vocals and other various musicians and back up singers on this CD.

This 10 song CD was Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Jason Tedford. CICADA MOON kicks off this CD with a laid back sound of the guitar. If you listen closely, his voice may sound a bit like someone you heard before. I must admit, this is quite a catchy song.

LISTEN seems like a quite simple song as he strums away on his guitar. Check this one out. CROWED is surely a great rock song with a great intro. The beat is solid and steady as the song gets into your head. 3:24 AM is great as it goes through some great tones in the intro to the song. The song has quite a distinctive favor to it for an instrumental.

UP AND AWAy [GOOD EVERYTHING] is as sweet as ever as he seems to take you on a journey throughout this album. HIDING BEHIND BLUES SKIES comes off one of his other CD’s which he asked me to review. The song

has great hooks and lyrics that are quite catchy. A must to hear. I want to give BRIAN NAHLEN a BIG THANK YOU for being in touch. You can find him at: Facebook, Pandora. STiiLPOiNT: RocknRollSuperSonicMegaTon

STiilPOint is a 3 piece Award Winning American Band that hails from Atlanta, Georgia. They are a straight forward pure rock band that will surely grab your attention fast, The band members are: BRANDON SEAY: Guitar, vocals; MATT DAMERSON-Bass and NICK CARROLL-Drums.

Their 11 song Cd was Produced by STiiLPOiNT and Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Matt Washburn. KINGDOM UPON THE SAND kicks off this CD with some very sweet guitar riffs as the band reminds me of a few name ‘90’s grunge bands. This sound is a must to hear.

DOWN AND OUT slows up the tempo a bit as with some great guitar riffs. This song has a great melody and the lyrics are quite impressive , too. WHEN I THINK OF YOU has the feel of an Alice in Chains or Disturbed song which will have an everlasting effect on you. This song is a must to hear.

RESPAWN is straight up hard rock and roll that is in your face from the very start. He’s screaming in your face as if he wants all your attention from the very beginning. Believe me, he sure has mine. Check it out. WITHOUT YOU as the feel of an ‘80’s rock band with just the type of melody it has which is nice to hear. This song is bound to catch your ear and you’ll want to hear it over and over again.

IN YOUR FACE brings the CD to an end and it does exactly what the song title says. Check this one out for yourself. You will be in for a real treat hearing this band.

CD REVIEW The Mississippi Mamas

THE MISSISSIPPI MAMAS is a three piece folk/country band that hails from Lucedale, Mississippi. The band is: PAMELA SIMS: Vocals, guitar, piano; BONNIE WILLIAMSON: Vocals, tambourine and various shakers and WILLIE WHITE: Lead guitar. They are a self produced band with various videos of them posted on YouTube. I feel once they find the right Producer , you’ll be hearing a lot from them. Keep your ears open.

LIKE A SAD COUNTRY SONG is a true country song with sweet country slur throughout the song. I actually find the song quite interesting. THE GHOST sounds great with its steady beat and laid back guitar.Their harmonies are quite interesting.

LOVE FOOLED ME AGAIN is an up-tempo foot tapping song that has a rock tempo to it. I must admit, this is quite a decent song. FOOLS GOLD is quite interesting as they seem to be singing their hearts out as the guitar work is very laid back.

KATRINA THE HURRICANE adds a bit of a different favor to this song. The piano comes in the song as if it was Jerry Lee Lewis playing it. I must admit, it’s really a good change to hear. HANGING ON has another rock and roll flavor to it. The piano, once again, is quite a nice highlight to the song. The band has a total of 30 some video’s on You tube. Please check them out whenever you have a

chance. I’d like to give a BIG THANKS to PAMELA SIMMS for being in touch. You can find the band on: Facebook, You Tube.

Marlowe B West Takez Manhattan !!! Rats as big as cats. Just kidding. Rats on two legs uptown and down and all around. For real! My life has been poetically surreal. I don’t know what to make of it. My name is Marlowe B West and I have been Star Reporter here at Steel Notes Magazine now for a whopping ten years. I have two platforms here. Marlowe B West Takez Manhattan and the other is entitled The Whirling Worlds of Marlowe B West ( for my interviews with others outside of Manhattan). Thank you Alexxis for presenting me with this opportunity. I have always been marveled by and compassionate for humanity and humankind. Being a reporter has given me an open invitation to meeting & interviewing the most interesting and gorgeously beautiful people and places.

Alexxis Steele deserves an award for being one of the most outstanding and upstanding women I’ve ever had the sheer pleasure of meeting and working with. Aside from being beautiful she is a confident and ambitious warrior of a girl. Alexxis has this flattering idea of doing a Zoom interview, zooming in on me. Second thought was the timing. She said “Rather than wait, why don’t you just write it.” I said “Write what?” She said “Your life and photos of all the people you’ve met.”

Ha! I might have a few. I’m sure you couldn’t remember that back in the dark ages we didn’t have little pocket phones with built in cameras on us every minute of the day. But I can share some amazing celebrity stories, if you care to zone in. For I am the Universe. They’ve been keeping it from me until now. I’m not yet sure how to utilize this. The Universe is All of Us. Not just U. What’s the matter? Isn’t the Universe enough? Dig it man! Poor Mick Jagger never never got no, no satisfaction.

Once upon a time. Long long ago. From the magical fairyland of Laurel Canyon, the divine goddess Miss Pamela and I hitch-hiked all the way to Topanga Canyon and way way up into the winding forest hills to the Corral where the Flying Burrito Brothers were playing. The divinely magical Miss Mercy was already there. In walks the Rolling Stones. They must’ve called ahead because before they showed up the place was in a whirlwind. Ahaha. Miss Mercy and Miss Pamela were two members of Frank Zappa’s girl band, The GTO’s. At the time these outrageously mesmerizing girls were rightfully acclaimed and recognized world famous groupies. There they were out there on the dancefloor beautifully twirling around and glittering in front of the Burritos. The Stones right away had us ushered over to their huge table. Miss Mercy introduced me to Mick and he was surprisingly super sweet. Sweet to the extent that I was inwardly shocked because previous to our meeting I didn’t imagine him to be so humanly human. He had me fooled. He carried this most perfectly wonderful personality. So imagine how crushed I must have felt when he pulled this stunt. He invited me to this party back in Hollywood. They’d all been talking about it at the table. He escorted me across the parking lot and opened the back door to a huge red cadillac and I slipped inside feeling like hot shit. Mick closed the door, had a few words with the driver and went back to the club. When Mick went inside, the

driver got out, opened the door and said “Get out!” I tried to speak ... “...but Mick ...” He cut me off ... “Get Out!” He made me get out, slammed the door shut, jumped back in the driver’s seat and away he went. He drove around the parking lot to the front door where the gods and goddesses piled in. Rock and Roll blasting at full volume and driving right past me. Echoing through the winding canyon hills in this pitch blackness where they’d unbelievably just ditched me. I sat down on the ground and cried my eyes out.

But I met him a couple other times. We were partying with Jobriath and Heather Macrae in NYC smoking doobs out on the balcony. After which I got mugged on the sidewalk by three brothers with shining blades. They roughed me up. I knew better than to resist. They were stripping me of everything. My multi-coloured platform shoes, my rings, chains, wallet etc. and when they were undoing my rainbow belt, with the sunshine buckle, I was shitting a brick thinking these mean guys were going to cut my balls off. But an unusually huge scream came bellowing out of me, from way down there, and the dudes split in the blink of an eye. A little old lady handed me a pinkie ring my Grandmother had given me, saying “They dropped this as they ran past me.”. There’s always an angel.

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 107

... and another time I was walking towards Max’s Kansas City, where I once sang my Hollywood Revival Cabaret Show with piano accompaniment by Maestro Rick Bates. Anyway a limousine is pulling up across the street and out pops Mick. So I wave and yell “Hey Mick!” and he yells “Baby!” and out of the limousine gets his ultra gorgeous wife, Jerry Hall who looks at me and yells “Faggot!”. All this celebrated glamour and still such ugliness exists. Who am I to judge? I still love them.

Oh! Do you guys want another rock star? How about Elton John? I will naturally always adore this musical genius. This glamourous icon, Elton. I met him at the After Dark Disco in West Hollywood. Trying to communicate in a Disco is pretty redundant sometimes. A mutual friend said “Elton, this is my friend, Marlowe B West ‘’ I cannot blame him. We had no idea, he was already engaged in another conversation. He looked over his shoulder, into my face, and he stopped and looked me up and down. When he looked all the way down he freaked because we were wearing the same exact black patent leather, high heel platform, sling back shoes from Fredericks of Hollywood. He was fucking mortified and paid me no more mind.Such a girl! I’ll always love him. But that’s okay because that’s the same dreamy night I met and went home with the Movie Star Sal Mineo. My heart stands still to think. That face, melt-you-eyes and smile to die for. We rocked out under that disco ball. Could’ve been Donna Summer singing LAST DANCE. Me and a few other friends walked with him up to his groovy pad and smoked his hash. I’m elated to this very day.

Now how about an artist? I met Pablo Picasso. How about that? At the time I was living two blocks away from the Chelsea Hotel on 25th Street. I got a call from my BTO mate, Bernardo. He said he and Johanna were in town doing a film or something and told me to meet him in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel. I get there and see Bernardo over across the lobby chatting away in Spanish with this little guy wearing a fisherman’s hat.Bernardo caught my eye and signaled for me to wait a minute. So I waited and waited and waited until finally the little guy and Bernardo were heading towards me. “This is my friend, Marlowe.” he said in Spanish. I reach out my hand and we engage in a firm handshake. “Say hi to Pablo. I was telling him about our adventures in Hollywood.” He could rape you with those eyes. I didn’t speak any Spanish so there was no conversation. From there it was a wham bam thank you mam minute before the little guy said “Adios” and made his exit. My enchanted gypsy Bernardo, who is always already on cloud nine, was elated when he said “That’s Picasso.” and I’m sure my jaw dropped and my head started spinning.

Bernardo and I go down to the Horn and Hardart on the corner. It was a smorgasbord kind of place. We’re on line picking out whatever and who comes in behind us? It’s him. With a huge smile, Bernardo loudly exclaims “Pablo!” and happily snaps his fingers in the air. Picasso’s eyebrows went up and with the nastiest frown. He said “Senor Picasso to you!” He seemed to be trying to be incognito or something. To keep from reacting we both

turned to stone. Staring at each other with our eyes popping out. Recently ,Bernardo and I had been living the wildest gypsy life up in the Hollywood Hills. We had our own untouchable awesome gang called The Immediate Family. We had our own people and our own kind of language and everything. The most expressive and dominant word was “Quack!” anytime something strikes you out of the ordinary you go “Quack!” and sometimes it would get out of hand in public and it would catch on and the whole place would soon be quacking. Therefore you can only guess what happens next. We pay for our stuff and grab a booth. We had been ignited by Picasso’s idiotic behavior and were getting giddy. Picasso soon passed by again and headed downstairs to the mens room with the same stuck up air about him. He asked for it! Bernardo couldn’t hold back and let out a big loud “QUACK!!!” and pulled his turtleneck up over his head. I went “QUACK!!!” too. We were dying in hysterics and slid down in our seats. Unable to breathe anymore. We remained slid down in the booth trying not to laugh until he finally passed by again. We were insane together.

God! I ride on a magic carpet back to where my heart will remain, Laurel Canyon. Living the most exciting rock and roll life in the Hollywood Hills in the Golden Days of Rock and Roll. Other members of The Immediate Family were our beloved third BTO member Carlos Lozano, who ended up living with Salvador Dali until his death in Paris. Frank and Gail Zappa, Janet Gabby Ferguson, Miss Lucy, Miss Mercy, Miss Pamela, Miss Sparkie, Miss Sandra and ‘Pumpkin Butt’ Miss Cynderella. Then there’s the infamous Mark and John and several others. Those GTO’s were the most original and magical formation of girls ever. They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 1st Girl Band. They were highly inspirational and I’d say they were all but completely underrated while being forerunners in the Women’s Liberation movement.

Hanging with Frank Zappa was the highest honor. One night he invited me and a few other “Immediate Family” members to come watch two of his favorite films with him in his dungeon archives. Miss Lucy, Miss Sparklette, me and the other two BTO’s, Bernardo and Carlos were in the ultimate dream state sitting there with him in the light of the silver screen watching Freaks and Metropolis

When I lived in the beautiful house, previously lived in by The Fool, up on Yucca Trail in the enchanted canyon, Gail Zappa came and picked me up in their Silver Cloud Rolls Royce to go see the premiere of Frank’s film 200 Motels which starred Miss Lucy, Janet Ferguson, Miss Pamela, Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. In reminiscing I gotta tell yaz that I celebrated my 21st Birthday at the Wiggy a go go and Frank’s Ruben and the Jets played. Without a doubt a night to remember.

Another very private, embarrassing yet hilarious episode took place up at the Zappa estate that no one’s ever heard before. I had made this one piece burgundy two way stretch sleeveless jumpsuit that buttoned up the front. Frank loved it and wanted one. So Gail went and picked out some royal blue fabric and I went home and

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 108

made one for Frank. When I went back to give it to him, he and Gail were in the bedroom. and called me in. I went in and gave it to him. He went into the bathroom and came out wearing it. But he had a long torso and his well endowment didn’t have enough room to hang and looked hideous. His face was saying “really?” while his wife was hysterical in tears rolling on the bed. I wasn’t about to go over and try to fix it. What on earth was I expected to do? I freaked and ran away. Out the door and down the hill.

It’s all in my book. In case you didn’t know it’s entitled Go West - The Rock and Roll Memoir - 1967-1970. It starts off with Jim Morrison and Come On Baby Light My Fire and dramatically ends with Jimi Hendrix and Dolly Dagger. Did you know that Dolly Dagger was written by Jimi about Devon Wilson. Devon Wilson was a rock ‘n’ roll groupie who became one of Jimi Hendrix’s most trusted friends and intimate companions. She was also his girlfriend. Well Devon and her friend Angela ended up staying with my gorgeous cousin Marquise and I at our house in Hollywood, on the corner of Franklin and LaBrea. Miss Mercy was living with us at the time.

Miss Mercy is one of the most outrageous of all. She was a famous groupie on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine on her birthday. She was pals with all the bands and she gave Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones my phone number and address to get in touch with her when in town. So here’s the hitch. Just the night before, at a party in London, Devon told Marquise and I that she had dosed Jimi’s coffee.

She said “The only time we were lovey dovey was when we were on the drug.” and she wanted his ass that night. Drinking down the coffee he thought he’d get a buzz. He’d been drinking and getting stoned earlier. He soon

left but without Devon. So she went home and received a call. I think it was from Eric Burdon of the Animals. “Jimi OD’d.” So Devon immediately freaked out and strongly felt she needed to disappear. She had nowhere to run. The inner circles’ words travel quickly. Keith Richards comes to her rescue by giving her my address. So guess where, in the whole wide world, she ends up, like 13 hours or so later, with Eric Burdon’s ex-wife Angela

It’s like 3 am. I’m coming home from working at Thee Club down on Santa Maniac Boulevard. I open the door and standing there’s Devon and Angela, with all their stuff on the floor and on the beds. Smiles as big as miles. Gorgeous most grateful ladies. Okay, to the point. Miss Mercy had helped herself to Devon’s heroin stash and got the cold eye from Marquise for asking me if I wanted some. Of course I said “No” But Miss Mercy heroined herself to sleep. That was the last we heard or saw of her that night. Meanwhile Devon is in a zone unknown. White as a ghost stoned and zoned. The news of Jimi’s OD first hit the radio before daybreak. Devon had been listening intently and there was no mention of foul play.

That night we got all dolled up and went to the Wiggy a go go. Devon let me wear Jimi’s most exquisite jacket. I found it profoundly eerie walking amongst these outstandingly beautiful girls. Here I’m wearing a just dead Jimi Hendrix’s jacket with the girl who feels responsible for his death. Devon had lots of drugs and a lot of Jimi’s clothes. I tried on this purple suede and leather fringed jacket that 3 months earlier he had picked up from Bill Morgan, CEO of North Beach Leather on Sunset Strip. The

www.steelnotesmagazine.com 109

matching purple suede and leather applique jeans were too tight. Jimi was a skinny dude. Devon told me she and Jimi wore each other’s clothes and if you browse through Jimi’s distinctly “Hendrix’ wardrobe you will spot some blouses etc that are undoubtedly ladies.

Through all the years of Rock and Roll I vote Jimi for not only the Most Mind Blowing Guitar but Rock and Roll Fashion Icon as well. By the way, Devon and Marquise became very close friends during those few days. She brought Marquise to visit her uncle Quincy Jones at his estate. When Arthur Lee of the band Love came by to take Devon and Angela up to his home in the hills, Devon gave Marquise Jimi’s incredible purple jacket as thanks for taking care of them. I believe my beautiful Marquise is in a much more peaceful and serene place now since March 21st, 2019. Life was cruel to her. I, personally and unforgivingly declare, in the face of the Universe, that Marquise is a Saint. She was wearing this Rock and Roll relic one night on the Sunset Strip when 2 thugs dragged her into an alley and raped her. The fucked up cops said “Look at the way you’re dressed. You look like a hippie.” She could never wear it again. I gave her all I had which was only $25 and took it off her hands. She ended up pregnant and left Never Neverland. I still have and cherish that jacket but Marquise is gone. Sadly, Devon Wilson fell from the 8th floor of the Chelsea Hotel in New York on February 2, 1971.

So, Hey all you beautiful people out there, I never got to mention a thing about my exciting more recent life. My rock band, in which I’m the lead singer. It is (as my reporting platform) also called Marlowe B West Takez

Manhattan. Perhaps some of you have seen me out on the town or performing in some of my own dazzling fashions called Marlowe B West Custom Couture. So that leaves me open and all set to do that Zoom interview, Mr. DeMille.

At this point I’d love to present my own three wishes to the Universe/Cosmos;

1st - I would love to go out dancing with my Goddess friend, Mamie Van Doren, who I’ve had the ultimate pleasure of interviewing three times and sharing here on this fabulous Steel Notes Magazine.

2nd - Have the musical Hollywood Revival, that I’ve written for stage and screen, come to life.

3rd - To have the opportunity to get this message across to every individual inhabitant of this Glorious Planet Earth. We are each, unexpectedly, a precious miracle. I want them to come to the realization that the odds for them to be here, living and alive, were one in a million at the moment of conception and that all the other losing contestants went down the drain. You have already won the battle, my dear friends! With this realization we should seriously love ourselves, along with all other beautiful living creatures and contain the highest value and respect for, and of, one another.

Sandy Sarjeant was a singer and a Go Go Dancer in The style of Swinging London. She was a house performer in two TV shows. One was “Ready Steady Go”(UK,1965)and The other was “Beat Club”(Germany,1967).

There seems to be no specific info from anywhere about how Sandy got started into dancing and when. She had her own moves up there and they were killers. She was very popular in England and Europe.

Most people over there who were like 14 years old when those shows were on the air watched her often. But remember there were always Moms and Dads who didn’t want their kids watching that stuff. Both here and in England. Sandy Sarjeant was born Sandy Arethea Sarjeant 10-7-47 in London,England. She married Ian Mclagen in 1967. They had one son and they divorced in 1972. She married again later then divorced. They had three children.

UK racing cyclist Bradley Wiggins interviewed original “The Scene” dancers Pat Farell and Sandie in 2018. Information from and about Sandy Sarjeant can often be few and far between. In 1964 and 1965 my brothers and sister and I watched Shindig!,Shivaree,Hullabaloo,Lloyd Thaxton,Hollywood A Go Go.

Those shows had house dancing troupes and house performers. Various members of The Girls Together Outrageously (GTO’s) toured as Go Go Dancers on the road with The Byrds ‘circa 1965-66. The first Go Go Dancers were in New York when women got up on the tables in clubs and bars and danced The Twist back in 1962-1963.

American Bandstand was still on The Air in 1967-1968 and on into the 70s with dancing to The Top 40. So clubs and bars started having stuff like pole dancers and GoGo Dancers. The Monkees,Upbeat,The Smothers Brothers,Where The Action came a year or two after the other shows. They were also killer shows. Girls and young women in those days of The mid-sixties were expected to wear clothes that were best suited for High School or

Church and to wear their hair in a perm or a bun. You could see women on those Rock and Roll TV shows I mentioned who had thrown out The rulebook.

The Ronettes,Martha and The Vandellas,The Shangri Las,Evie Sands,Barbara Lewis,Shirley Bassey,Janis Ian,Merilee Rush,Jackie Deshannon,Marianne Faithfull,Cilla Black,The Pleasure Seekers,Mary Wells,Aretha,Cher,The Toys,The Marvelettes,Tina Turner,Beryl Marsden,Nancy Sinatra,The Supremes,Dusty Springfield,Sandie Shaw,Leslie Gore,Lulu,Petula Clark,Jeanie C.Riley,The Loreleis,The Angels,The Honeys,Ginger and Maryann,Wrangler Jane,That Girl,Cousin Serena,Agent 99,Petticoat Junction,Ellie May Clampet,Jeanie,The Crystals and hundreds of others.

They wore their hair in “B-52s”. OK,in those days you could buy 2 spray cans of Aqua Net hairspray for less than a solid dollar. The best example of that “Go Go Dancer look” I can think of is KATEY SAGAL AS PEG BUNDY!!!!! Married with Children takes place in 1987 to 1998 but Peg looks The way women looked who broke the rules in 1966-1967. Jayne County looks wicked in her long styles and Marco’s Wigs.

Go Go Dancer boots were “flatties’ ‘ made out of vinyl but you could potentially get away with wearing all kinds of boots, including western. Boots with a long spiked heel became popular. I fell down on a dance floor in 2014 in a pair of boots like that. I’m sticking to flatties nowadays. Look,as much as I’m fascinated with things like my flip wigs and related stuff, and you have your quirks, too,I’m sure.

The sixties ain’t coming back and really, neither are the 70s or The 80s. I live in the St.Louis area. For several years recently we had Beatle Bob Matonis on KWMU in St.Louis. Beatle Bob played Garage Rock,British Invasion,Soul Music,Surf Music and he combined it with The Flamin Groovies,The Chesterfield Kings and The Ramones, etc.,Punk Rock and all sorts of obscurity, surf music, rockabilly.

Sadly Bob was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease and passed away a few weeks ago. There are only a small

number of radio stations nationwide who offer this kind of Punk Rock and Top 40 mixture along with a heavy mixture of recordings by local talent. When it came on the air it was The first thing to rule The airwaves since KXOK and WIL reigned over St.Louis in The mid-sixties.

I don’t know why nobody associated with any one of several St.Louis City and County Campus and SouthCentral Illinois radio stations didn’t go for the opportunity for a “Beatle Bob ‘’ style of music show years and years ago. I’m sure everybody at KWMU will do their best to fill in The Gap left by Matonis’ passing. KSHE,KADI and KDNA were great radio stations in their time. A big gap was left in St.Louis Rock and Roll Radio when Don ``Johnny Rabbit” Petromonaco left KXOK ‘circa 1969.

Johnny was somehow caught up in a conflict allegedly with The Program Directors over his use of airtime for all that stuff like Bruno J. Grunion,Blab it To The Rabbit,on the air valentines like Jim in Jennings sends P.S.I Love you to Lisa in Kirkwood when those airtime minutes could be used for advertising. So Johnny bounced around to various radio stations in The southwest and he finally became one of LA’s biggest DJs in the 90s. He passed away but I’m glad he ended his life on a note of very big success. Ron Elz had The “Johnny Rabbit ‘’ spot at KXOK in the 50s and The early 60s. I assume KXOK owned The rights to The copyright name and title. Ron was at a Bay area Top 40 station for years when he came back for”Johnny Rabbit’’ Oldies Shows in St.Louis. So for those of you who’ve heard that stuff, that’s the name of that tune. While it’s true that Ron Elz preceded Don Petro in The Johnny Rabbit Role,I think it could be in better taste if he didn’t try to compete with Don Petromonaco’s legacy and popularity which even after his death is immense.

Anyhow,if you have any recent info on Sandy Sarjeant,if possible, please don’t keep it a secret. Sandy is still alive and there is a very nice 2018 photo of her seated at a table in a pub with Bradley Wiggins and Pat Farell. Sandy Sarjeant recorded a few vinyl records. She was a singer and an actress, too. I was in grade school at the time(19641968)like Beaver Cleaver and Larry Mondello. It’s a fair guess that St.Louis had all kinds of suburban lounge lizard places to drink watery cokes and whiskeys and to “hunt for chicks” who had that 1966-1967 glamor like Dusty Springfield,Sandie Shaw,Mary Wells,Sandy Sargeant.

Well,Lounge Lizards get told “NO” a whole lot. I really don’t advise that anybody try to “hunt up Chicks”,actually. People look at that as being low grade and it pisses people off. It’s actually fairly easy to meet women at bars or social occasions but there are numerous sad souls who don’t realize that brain damage will get you nowhere. Sandy had many fans in The UK and Europe yet over the years American people have begun to hear more about Sandy. I no longer have any of my vinyl records from The 60s and The 70s.

I do have an autographed vinyl copy of The ‘33 album called “English Heart” by Ronnie Spector. I used to sit spellbound in front of our TV watching Rita Heyworth,Joan

Crawford,Barbara Stanwick, Audrey Hepburn,Maureen O’hara,Bette Davis,Katherine Hepburn,Jayne Mansfield,Marylin Monroe. They were timeless and great but after The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan I became very preoccupied with The Girl Groups,The female singers,Go Go dancers. I wanted their hair and clothes. I think Rock and Roll should be fun, not educational and not a”broccolilarge portion with gravy junket” or a”Jumbo Turkey Frank”.

I’ve never seen him back down from his opinion. That’s why ,he is the CEO of lostanarchymagazine.com, fearlessly ran with brother, a.k.a. Jesse Predapool. He maintains a very interesting approach with his original digital eye that lends to the magazine’s unique personality. It is what it is!

Life Inside the Rock Presents: INTERVIEW WITH BRITTANY’S RAGE

with ConStanceLySteele

I interviewed one of most intriguing female vocalists; Brittney Muela of the band Brittney’s Rage.

CS: Brittney, How did you get your start as a vocalist? By the sounds of it, you’ve had extensive professional training.

One could only assume. As I intensely listen to these vocals bounce off the walls of the iconic Whisky, a go-go.

The house that rock ‘n’ roll built!” by generations of the legendary Maglieri family.

The kings Mario, RIP Mikeal RIP and Mario’s beautiful wife Scarlet RIP Maglieri queen of Hollywood’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll scene of the Sunset iconic strip. I miss them terribly but beyond grateful that the torch proverbly has been passed Now to Mike Maglieri . We salute you ALL.

In Lemmy’s words from worldwide famous Motörhead “Don’t forget to rock ‘n’ roll.”

BM: “I was 4 years old. My brother overheard me singing Barney and the rest is history.”

CS:All of my years of interviewing fellow musicians, songwriters and creative artists of various mediums. I’ve never quite heard that delightful response.

CS:So there goes my next list of questions.

1) where did you study?

2) Who is your teacher?

I found myself interviewing a rare natural talent and amazing human beings, as well.

That organic response really hit it home for me.

Chills ran down my spine every time I hear her natural vocals ring out. There are thousands of endless talented musicians and new ones forcing through making their stance to be discovered .

I have chosen this particular vocalist, not only for her original vocal stylings. But for the rare resonating beauty

of authenticity, integrity, natural talent and beauty.

“This woman’s vocal force hits every note, bell and whistle. She does it all very impressively from the depths of her heart and soul.

BM:The band Brittney’s Rage has been together for about 11 years now.

My family put me in a talent show when I was only 5 raised competing in talent shows and pageants. My first and only band is this one.

CS: When Brittney met Tony it was clear to see that this was an unparalleled rock ‘n’ roll romance. The stuff that dreams are made of. but we’ll save that for another interview. Brittney’s Rage is releasing more songs and playing music everywhere! Follow this link for future show dates.

BM:The members of the band consist of: My husband, Tony Muela on guitar and vocals too. He is the original creator of the band and main composer of the music and Brittney writing the lyrics. On drums we have my brother in Law Ray Muela, born and raised in Whittier,CA. On bass we have John Mansour.

CS: What do the people wanna hear? The newest album they have coming out soon! Be sure to catch them at upcoming shows schedule at Facebook.com/brittneysrage Reverbnation.com/brittneysrageelptx
