TRAVELLERS
Barcelona, Spain, 2016-2017 Master Dissertation, KU Leuven
COMPACT adaptability. Two PROTAGONISTS. Adaptable = sustainable The main focus of the work is to study how a building could be designed with a certain functional independence, at the same time specific enough to answer to the needs of Barcelona 3.0 - productive city. The essence is to propose two adaptable interventions that are susceptible to changes in the uncertain future. The specific programmes chosen are contributing to the current needs of the city of more public spaces and more affordable housing. Despite suggesting a specific programme (market and social housing), the focus is on providing interchangeability of use along with avoiding generic image. Thus, it has been crucial to design carefully the architectonic elements in order to provide a specific character to the two protagonists. The chosen interventions have strategical locations and will trigger the area into its further development. Key words:
sustainable, adaptability, functional indetermination, gradient of collectivity, permeability, symbiosis, polyvalence. Entire work on:

THE WHEEL SHOWROOM
Sofia, Bulgaria 2013
When thinking about the concept of the showroom, two main features are taken into account. The key element of the road vehicle is the wheel. Moreover, the immediate context is the developing business neighbourhood at the entrance of the Bulgarian capital. The common feature of the building ensemble is the curvacious form. Thus, the wheel has a main role into the volumetric strategy of the project, and is integrated into the concept of the building’s structure, which has the nickname “bicycle wheel“. Before entering the building, the visitor is in the intimate scale covered outdoor terrace, where some models are on display. After this comes the element of surprise when entering the main exhibition hall, with its double level and magnificent structure. Key words:
multifunctionality, diversity, vitality, human scale 12

TREE
HOUSE
Sofia, Bulgaria 2014
“Pirotska” street is one of the few pedestrian spaces with traditional trade functions in the Bulgarian capital. Its vibrancy is a subject of nostalgic affinity for the residents of the city. There has been a gradual decline in the interest towards traditional trades and literature amongst young people. The project focuses on the continuity between old and new. The alternative neighbourhood needs an alternative to the regular cafeterias, which can be found at every corner of the city. Like a tree-house, built on top of a crown of branches, thus the new tea house is discreetly placed on the old roofscape of an architectural heritage building. It is the intimate sanctuary for everyone that needs it. Incorporating wood and books as main parts of its interior, it is also the keeper of literature treasures to everyone’s disposal. Key words:
vibrant urban context, architectural heritage, complementary addition, personal sanctuary 16

LIVING
and
WORKING
Gent, Belgium 2016
The assignment is to create a building that offers both productive and living spaces. The plot is next to the main entrance of the hybrid complex. The advantage of this plot is the association of its longitude with the rail tracks along. The emphasis is on the rusty historic character of the former industrial site and the old rail infrastructure. The initial point of the project was thinking about the silhouette and the interior of the new building. The idea behind the silhouette is to leave the programme ambiguous and let people wondering what is happening inside. The interior must provide a pleasant working environment for the workers. The building is a demonstration how the programme of living and working could exist together.

JOURNEY
Favignana, Italy 2018
Santa Caterina fortress, a structure that has been standing in the highest peak of the island for centuries, has become an essential part of the natural landscape of Favignana. Building and nature have become one. The trace leads the way uphill. Moreover, it runs through the castle the same way it runs through the mountain, reminding us once more that they are one. As we climb through the walls of the castle, we reach the highest part of the mountain. Then, we continue in our path through the whole fortress, observing art and the process of creation. The tectonic of the interior spaces creates inspiring atmosphere for artists and lovers of art. The small openings, which penetrate the massive robustness of the walls, separate the viewer in an inside world of solitude and yet, be in a direct contact with nature. Key words: architectural heritage, sustainability, simplicity, nature context 24
