EXPERIENCE
2GetThere . Interaction Designer November - June 2011
Alcatel. Interaction Designer
Graduation Project on influencing behaviors towards Ride-sharing on Personal Rapid Transit (automated driverless vehicles) located in Masdar city (abu Dhabi). In this project I have been using context mapping techniques (creative and generative sessions) to gain user insights on automated transportation. I organized a service roleplay session and used walkthrough models to act out and experience the interaction. The final design is a mobile, online and static portal for the transportation system.
I organized with a fellow student and set up usability testing with everyday users of Alcatel Conference Module. Participants experienced the product and went through a set of tasks. The results of the testing have been used as directions and developments for the redesign phase.
Atelier Consume. Co-Founder January- December 2010 Together with Ahmet Bektes, we designed a service that let users buy, design, sell and recycle personal t-shirts, creating revenue. The idea was part of the TU Delft Start up Incubator and won several prizes. Dekker . Interaction Designer January - July 2010
Interaction designer in a team of 4 people. The project was aimed to give the company, leader in the dutch kitchen market, a product to enter the bathroom market and make use of Corian seamless surfaces. My role has been leading a generative session, and a final user testing. Together with another student I have been responsible for the 3d model (solidworks) and prototype of the final product. I have been responsible for the renderings, a movie and the photographs for the final presentation.

Y I N G & YA N G Sharing experiences Student project Studio Lab,TU Delft 2009 Ying & Yang allows solo travellers share experiences with beloved and get feedbacks from them through a online platform. The vision is letting them experience the travel and effortlessly collect memories with no distraction due to stopping, shooting, saving and so on.
Ying and Yang comes from an exploration of the meaning of lightness as an assignment for the course “Exploring Interactions”, TU Delft. Brainstorming and VIP approach (a model for analysing the context and the actors), defined backpackers as a target group, in particular who travels alone on bikes. I organized a creative and a generative session. The first one was aimed to discover the needs, desires and wishes of backpackers; the second one was aimed to translate those requirements into design directions and ideas. Participants have been given a diary to fill in, in a week time, in order to empathize with the topic. After both sessions, the results have been clustered, analysed and summarized into design requirements. During the concept phase, a mock-up has been built and iteratively improved, changed and refined. Another session has been organized, this time with professional cyclists, in order to gain feedbacks and improve my idea. Ying & Yang is gps device that lets the user capture moments and share them on a open-source platform as Google Maps. A Galvanic Skin Response tool tracks the emotion map of the cyclist, uploading it online while cycling. A visually subtle feedback is given straight away, while comments and messages are visible only when in “relax” mode.

L E YA New application of HI-MACS material Student project Dekker Zevenhuien and TU Delft 2010 Leya creates a new showering experience in the bathroom. The vision has been granting both privacy and sharing value of the bathroom space, through the use of materials and shapes.
The project has been carried out with a team of five people, two interaction design students, an engineering student and two strategic design students. The company, Dekker Zevenhuizen, specialized in kitchen interiors, wanted to enter the bathroom market with an interactive HI-MACS (Solid Surface material) product. My role, together with another interaction design student, has been analysing the context of bathroom, in order to discover new interesting areas, and bring those to the following design phase. A creative session has been organized with a mixed group from the company, and a generative session has been organized with students from design and architecture. The results defined the design direction used in the concept phase of the project. An iterative approach has been used; together with another interaction design student, we performed role plays with participants to act out the interaction with the product and have a better grasp on its functionality. A direct collaboration with Dekker Zevenhuizen helped the design phase and made the product improve step by step in a realistic and producible way. The final name of the product is Leia, Greek word for smooth, which is the feeling that the product wants to communicate during its use. Besides the study on the interactions, my role has been formgiving (outer shell), 3D modelling with a technician (Solidworks), photo and video rendering and final prototype construction (with 2 students) and photoshooting.

R E LY N E Redesign of Alcatel conference module Student project Alcatel Lucent and TU Delft 2009 check the teaser online
Relyne solves the problems of feedbacks and awareness discovered in the analysis of the old Alcatel conference module. The goal has been improving the poor experience of call with the old module.
During this project, the Alcatel-Lucent 4125 Compact Conference Module has been redesigned. My role has been organizing, with another student, two user testing and prepare teasers for presentations. The first testing was aimed to evaluate the aesthetics and functionality of the existing product. A questionnaire aimed to discover user perception of the product and recognition of all the functionalities. A set of tasks, based on mounting the device, making a call and hanging up has been given to participants. The results have been clustered into directions for all the team in order to come up with concepts and then select one according to the design requirements.
oposal
The design phase followed an iterative process based on another user testing, set up by and led by me and another student. In particular, it consisted of a special set up into two different rooms, with two independent systems connected over an Ip. Every system consisted of microphones, a flash web-based interface, and controls for the moderators. In this way the participant were asked to use the simulated interface while performing a real conference call.

Solutions for grouping travellers and Increasing ridesharing in PRT Graduation project 2GetThere and TU Delft,2011 Graduation project on Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) produced by 2Getthere for Masdar city. The goal has been how to trigger and influence behaviors towards ridesharing to reduce occupancy.
R I DE FAST R I DE TOGE T H E R
“View on Masdar
Foster Architects 2010
Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is a means of transportation that offers personal, on-demand non-stop connection between any two points on a network of specially built guide-ways. It consists of small vehicles able to carry four passengers, combining the advantage of privacy offered by cars and the social advantages of public transportation. The company 2Getthere successfully implemented a PRT system in Masdar city last November 2010, providing continuous service between two stations. A future challenge the company has identified, is to be able to increase the occupancy rate of the PRT and the grouping of travellers in a future in which the system will have a higher number of stations. Consequently the purpose of the project “Ride fast, ride together” is to explore and deliver concepts that can trigger and motivate travellers in riding together in PRT, towards those stations that are selected the most. The context has been analysed with field studies of the existing automated systems, interviewing both operators and travellers. Together with expert consults from Sweden, Italy and Switzerland I defined a “traveller journey map”, that highlights all the touchpoints between the user and the service. Creative and generative techniques helped me gaining insights on the perception of ridesharing and explore possible areas for improving it. Concepts are presented as storyboards representing several use cases simulated with participants thanks to desktop models.

AT THE BERTH HE FINDS ANOTHER FELLOW STUDENT WITH THE SAME BLUE CARD. THEY DECIDE TO GO TOGETHER TO UNI AND HAVE A CHAT
A SUBTLE SOUND TELLS THEM THE PRT CHECKED THEM IN. BY TRAVELLING TOGETHER THEY FOR SURE GAIN SOME POINTS THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SPEND AT THE UNI, THEY WILL HAVE TIME T O CHECK ON THEIR ONLINE ACCOUNT LATER.

ITERATIVE UX DESIGN
In a month time, the design of the online portal, mobile app and vehicle interface followed several steps of improvement. Users have been asked to operate wireframes and simulate the functioning.
The final design proposal is an engaging, rewarding and motivating service that stimulates travellers in riding PRT together in order to gain credits and prizes.

The most important value the project left me is, when designing interactions, having a holistic approach. Defining a traveller’s experience map, helped me finding the activities that can be improved in the service; at the same time, though, it made me constantly keep an eye on what the service provider can offer, and what opportunities would be feasible for both.
